I completely understand. I am still not speaking to my ruffler foot now that Tom has introduced me to upholstery thread!

Here is little Megan in her new nightgown (she has more nightgowns than Imelda Marcos has shoes, but she liked the fabric so who was I to say no?):

I bought fabric today for my Ariel pillowcase. I can't wait to you all!

Cute nightgown.

I had some of that fabric too, it was going to be a nightgown until I decided she needed a robe more.

Hi all!
I wanted to post what I've been working on today....

th_dressesandplaques002.jpg

I finally tried the peasant top!!! woo hoo!!!
th_dressesandplaques009.jpg

and I have a question...what do you guys think of these?

th_dressesandplaques003.jpg

th_dressesandplaques005.jpg

th_dressesandplaques007.jpg

they've got ribbon hanging down to hold bows....which was their original use, but, I thought even just the personalized wall hanging was cute? I dunno...what do you guys think????

I LOVE them! The tops (especially the ladybugs) & the the bow holders (may have to steal that idea).

LOVE your patterns! Ruffler related questions...

1. Why is it that they seem that they are straight from hades?
2. Have you ever BROKE one? I could write an e-book on that one! YEP, actually BROKE a ruffler foot.
3. What settings do you use to achieve a perfect 2:1 ratio ruffle?

Ok - hopefully I am doing the quote thing right..

1. Rufflers were invented in the Victorian Era. They wore corsets and bustles, and had a fondness for humongous chandeliers. I think they were sick puppies in general.

2. I should post pics of my first ruffler. Talk about snaggle-toothed! One of the teeth broke off, and the others are horribly bent. It was a snap on, and it was hard to center on my machine. My first attempt was on a double thickness twirl skirt ruffle, and NO ONE ever told me that I would need to baste. There were tears, let me tell you.

3. Honestly - I have no idea how to achieve a perfect 2:1 on my ruffler. I sort of watch my gathers as they go through, and I can tell if they are more like 2:1 or 1.5:1. I usually just overgather on low tension, and do the wiggle room thing and stretch them out.

Thanks for the great questions! I'm almost at my 10 - woo-hoo!

I love those peasant tops. Sleeves scare me. I've never done one. Are they hard?

I like to bow holders, too. Of course, we have no need for those. My DD's refuse to wear any type of hair piece in their hair. :confused3

Oooh - I love the bow holders! Very preppy and cute!

I am still figuring my ruffler out! it is a very mysterious piece of machinery! :lmao: I finally figured out how to attach a ruffle while ruffling at the same time..............if that makes sense! haha

Anyway, I am hoping my new machine is going to arrive soon. I have some HM fabric my dds are begging me to sew.

YEAH!!!! I love your Trip Report!!!

You Can Make This has one. I think Lori said before that she used that one but modified it.
Thank you for being such a loyal reader...

OK, I thought I was loosing it for a few minutes. I haven't been around lately things have been really crappy around here. My DH lost his job, he is a pharma sales rep and they lost a patent on their drug...so I had to go get a job, which is going ok, but I miss being home and sewing and hanging out with you all. THen on top of it all I turned 30 last week!!! What a great way to start a new decade!!!:confused3 Anyway I finally get on the computer to see what you have all been up to and you have moved! What is up with that? I was so confused. I am assuming that we our thread got too big? Well I am back and hopefully won't be gone that long again. I did get a new serger from my mom and dad for the big 3-0 b-day!!! So far I am really liking it.
A big hello and I am glad to be back!

I decided I need some fun in my life...Here goes...I have 2 beautiful hairbows that I recently put on :wizard: for half the price of what I paid. They were never worn, and I hate to relist stuff...so
The first person who can guess my middle name...gets them...

So here's the first hint...It begins with one of the first 9 letters of the alphabet and it's 5 letters long.
Please PM me your guesses..and I will give more hints as we get closer...
Good luck.
i am gonna say "Helen" :rotfl: i know you already posted the answer i just had to try :rotfl:

oooh, shameless post, when did I suddenly become a Mouseketeer? I thought it wasn't until 500? Yay me! I feel so growed up!   nevermind, that really was shameless, I guess 500 is veteran? And here I still thought I was earning my ears.
Whoooo HOOOOOO

Welcome newbie! You are lucky to be starting when you little ones are so young! I know there are some books people have highly recommended for beginning sewers, I'm sure someone will and let you know the titles. I also recommend just jump in and try. I learn a lot every time I make something, and the people here will walk you through anything. It's a great place to learn!
I second that ..

Okay, I'm posting again to get my post count up again on this new thread!

Saturday night we were eating at a friend's house and one of my friends and neighbors brought up taking the kids to a movie. I commented that the last movie we had seen with the kids was Enchanted. My friend Kristen says, oh, I used to date James Marsden (I think that's his name anway) when I was in college (at Oklahoma State University). I asked which character was he? The prince! How do you date somebody like that and forget to tell your friends? I would have been pretty excited that someone I dated was famous now and probably have told everyone I knew!

It is so windy here in Dallas that my gas grill (a big heavy Weber one) has fallen over three times (I picked it up twice but this time I'm just letting it lie there, that's got to be better than continually falling over, right?) and it broke my dog's food stand in half! They said we had sustained winds of 25 mph and gusts 50-65 mph! You think you're getting blown away. It is nice and warm (68 degrees) but too windy to go outside.

Okay, so that is it for my shameless post boosting!
:confused3 i would be driving people in sane with my story .....:goodvibes

no, but I should be! I'm sitting here :surfweb: trying to figure out a next Disney(land) trip because it is too depressing not to have one to look forward too!
okay lets just head out tommorow your kids and mine We don't need no stinking husbands We will have to snag Wendy lou too .....;)

We Have A Winner!!
phins_jazy was the winner of the bows...She was the second guesser and got it!! My middle name is Helen! Teresa..you got it too, but she beat you to it!! Congrats!!
Congrats !!!!:thumbsup2 :worship:

Ok, Here's the Valentine's shirts. I'll have to get pics of them on 'cause they look way better on the girls than on the hanger (at least to me they do).

2007_02090104.jpg
too cute

And this is Tink. If I hadn't been so excited about this outfit, I probably would've shoved it in the back of a closet somewhere & not touched it again for months. I broke 4 needles & had to fix the bobbin 4 or 5 times & ripped the ruffle off at least 4 times before i got it right, BUT now that it's finished I love it.

omg !!! that is adorable

Congratulations!!!!! We'll need a pic of them in someone's hair!

OK, here are the fabrics, tell me if you think they would go well together for a stripwork jumper? DD3 looks really good in blue and I thought this would work. Maybe with a pair of white capris. Which fabric would you pick for the top or would you do something different?

For those of you who have a razor thingy to cut fabric. You know, the circle blade for quilting. I hope I'm making sense. How long does your blade last? I seem to go through them quite frequently. And I always have one place where the blade doesn't seem to cut through the fabric, even a fairly new blade. Is this common?

I just landed a major score!! I went to walmart. (What is it about walmart? )All I had to get was milk. But of course I have to wander over to the fabric dept. I checked out the remnants and I found a frosty panel, a princess panel, and half a princess pillow panel. They were all reduced so I put them in my cart to find a scanner to see the actual prices. Found a scanner and it said to find an associate. drat! Well luckily there was one the next isle over and she she had a little machine that spit out the price.....are you ready for this....... A PENNY EACH!!!!! I asked her if she was sure that was right and she said whatever it says on the machine I have to charge you so it's a penny. I almost kissed her I was so happy. I figure they will work perfect for appliques and the frosty will be for a twirl skirt next christmas. Here is what I got. Don't mind the wrinkles they were all bunched up in a roll.

cuuuuuteeee

Hi there!

My name is Carla :) ...

I've been checking in here and there (OK lurking) for the last few months, and I LOVE seeing all the beautiful creations made from my patterns!!! I spend TONS of time putting my eBooks together (forsaking all housework, poor DH), and seeing that they are used by loving moms to make custom sets for their beautiful kids really makes it all worthwhile :) .

Sometimes I see posts where someone has trouble with a particular pattern, and the insecure part of me wants to jump up and say - "but I said do this on page x!!!" Anyway, I just want to say - please please please p.m. me or email me for help (my url is in the eBooks, and that will get you to my email). I am very happy to help in any way that I can (though I have to admit that I still want to throw my ruffler into a busy street sometimes - LOL)!

So since I've "delurked" (a big thing for me because I am a big shy geek), I'd love to get in on this fun contest thing! The first 5 people that p.m. me and say "Hi geek!" get my brand new twirl skirt pattern emailed to them! I think this one totally lends itself to Mickey head appliques, and I hope to someday see one posted here :) !

welcome !!

Hi all!

how adorably cute ! i will take the J one for my DD Jayedyn ;) no what a really cute idea i am totally gonna CASE that ....:goodvibes

I have a question: do you guys usually use a pattern when you sew?

I almost NEVER use patterns. Of course, I almost always make my bags, peasant dresses, pants and/or shorts, skirts, and sleeveless dresses....none of which require a pattern. :confused3

Am I weird, or do you guys not use patterns much either??
I have just recently started sewing without a pattern. If I feel kind of lazy or want to be quick with something than I will use a pattern.

All of this is so cute. I'm gonna have to CASE that J bow holder for DD.

Well I guess I am not going back to work right away so I may still have time to sew. :confused3 :rotfl:

Lots of new names on this board, did everyone make it over from the "old" board?

Well...my capri turn out a little short..so it looks like it is a pair of purple shorts! Not sure how I like it with the princess top....I didn't use the pants pattern that came with the top..instead, I use the YMCT Easy fit pants. I thought I measure it so it would be a little longer..guess I measured wrong. What do you think? Should I make a longer pair of pants to go with it (since I have more purple fabric), and is the rick rack too high or should I make a skirt instead..a twirl skirt of some sort? Here is a picture of my dd in the top and pants..she was less than thrilled that I interrupted her playing for pictures!

I like it as it is!!! I think it is perfect!

WEll, I am off to bed, to dream of new creations!!!!LOL!!!! I will try to log on while at work tomorrow, when there will be about 30 more pages!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good night!

I use both- But if I don't think I need a pattern I would rather not

WOW!!! What kind of job do you have? I wanna do all that and get paid for it, well with the exception of going to the PD!!!
I think I messed up the quote- I think it was MOUSETRIPER who asked this:

Anyway I work with people who have developmental disabilities. I have 8 people who each have 5-8 hrs of services per week. I do one sleep over night at a group home so I can be full time and get all the benefits. 4 of the people I have worked with for more than 7 years. The other 4 range from 1-4 years with me. They are a really great group. We do alot of fun things as well as all of the daily living type things- making sure they get to the dr., go with them if they need it, you don't even know how many times I go to the grocery store every week!! budgeting, food planning, personal needs shopping and general problem solving stuff. Some had special diets, I go to the ymca and work out right along side them. I have been doing this for almost 10 years and it is different every day- they definitly keep me on my toes!! Sorry it got so long aren't you glad you asked?!?!?
Here is Bonnie's Valentine's Day top.

What a poser!! She is really pretty and so are her outfits!! Her teacher will love the penguin one!!
Love the scrapbook pictures (my other love). I'm glad I wasn't the only one who went crazy with the fancy scissors! Love the pictures of little you: you are so cute!

My aunt did that she takes about 3 hrs a page:scared1: She does beautiful work it just takes her forever and every page is super heavy because she triple mattes alot of the pictures. She is very "old School" with her tools- Templates/with fancy scissors and photo splits. The cricut and the tape runner our not good for her- we gave her a tape runner one time- she had it for about a minute before she threw it across the room cuz it got all tangled up!!! It has been a lot of fun and great bonding for us "girls"- we go away 1-2 weekends a year to one of my aunts cabins.

I am on down the road from you and I here ya on the winds. As a matter of fact, I can't find our trash can we put on the curb this morning for trash pick-up :confused3 I guess the wind helped it find a new home

I'm not able to post pictures. I get an error message about "post too low" What does that mean?
