When ever I go to Wal-Mart and buy fabric the ladies that are there always chat and ask "what are you making?" When I made the book panel skirt I told her that I was a making a skirt out of the panel the lady just kind of looked at me funny and another time when I said that I was going to be appliqueing a picture off of a pillowcase onto a dress again I got that same funny look. Anyways it got me wondering does anybody else get those strange looks from people when you tell them what an outfit is made of?

I get one lady who is always very excited about what I am making. When I showed her the pillowcase as she was cutting the fish fabric, she told me it was great together and she hoped I would show her the finished outfit. Most of the rest of the ladies don't seem to care though.

Ok, curiousity killed the cat, and I want to know the item number too!!! :worship:

Here's one of the things that Nana brought for the girls for Valentine's Day. Isn't it cute?!?!? We took the girls to MK on Sunday.

I wanna know about the conversation hearts too-Are they appliques? Of course they are, what I mean is what are the appliques made of?
This is made out of the pillowcase from KMart. Made with the Farbenmix "Vida" pattern.

I'm gonna have to check kmart again I really like that tink!! And what you did with the whole outfit is really great- I love pink and green too.
This one is great too!! When is spring coming anyway- I am SOOO ready!!!
Great Idea!! What a cutie!!! I love the lace you used.

Thanks for saying those nice things about my bow. The moms at pre k thought it was cute too, dd also wore her pink and purple skirt (which they also thought was cute). So I got to say our favorite phrase- oh I made that. :goodvibes :cloud9:
I will try the hot glue on the top prong next time.

Steph- what pattern is megan modeling on ycmt??

Okay, looked at the $$$$$$$$$$ outfit on :wizard: , and I have to say there have been much cuter stuff on here! Ladies, we need to sell some clothes!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao: I need to fund my Disney trip! If I could sell some at this price, 2 outfits would pay my way:lmao:

Sadly, the reality is the number of custom boutique sellers who get even close to those kinds of prices are FAR outnumbered by sellers who barely break even. I've seen many sellers start in thinking they could get those high prices too. They see sellers start at $.99 or $9.99 and go up to a couple hundred (or more) so the new seller tries the same approach - only to find they now must make the item for a buyer who won it for the opening bid. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying to sell on :wizard: but I'd also hate for people to lose money in the process. I'm hesitant to discuss selling too much here because I don't want to break the board rules so I'd be happy to give more information, advice, tips, etc. on the board Shannon (revrob) started.

I can't believe that someone was willing to pay that much for one outfit that will only be worn once or twice and then what resold for less than it was paid for. Some people have more money than sense. IMO the outfits made on this thread are far better than that one.

Just to add my 2 cents, that seller often gets amazing amounts but most of the items seem to go to a smallish group of dedicated bidders. However, the resells of her work also do quite well so I have a feeling some bidders take that into consideration. Like anything, the worth of a product is based on what people will pay. Too bad there aren't more bidders out there like those, though, who could find the listings of a seller or two I think do great work. ;)

Sometimes I look at things and all I see are the "imperfections". I need to get over that I know!

I'm the same. I try hard to ignore the "imperfections" except to think of how I'd do things differently the next time. Your work looks great and your mix of colors and prints is wonderful. Remember, you're human so nothing can ever be "perfect" except the reason for sewing for your DD. :goodvibes

Hi,Everyone!
The Conversation Hearts are embroidered on to the Peek-a-Boo Skirt and the Tee Shirt using my Brother PE700:lovestruc it does do up to a 5X7 area. I got the design from the Embroidery Library (www.emblibrary.com). They have really nice designs although they are usually very stitch intensive. Nana

I wanted to tell you that your bow is adorable too. I just bought some ribbon to try again (I really stink at making them).

We submitted shots for CarlaC's a-line jumper and scallopini skirt. I didn't get any good action shots like Heather did. Maybe next time!

I have four orders for the matching t-shirt nightgowns/doll nighties that I am trying to finish up before our playdate Monday and I just sewed the skirt onto the doll's nightgown inside out! :headache:

I charge enough to make about $5/hour sewing. I am hoping that as I gain experience and people who like the stuff I can eventually charge more. I mostly sew for my friends though and I can't bear the thought of overcharging them.

My grandmother is going to talk my aunt into paying me to make clothes for her granddaughter (my second cousin) of course I won't charge insane amounts for the outfits. Bailee is kind of a large girl so my aunt has a hard time finding clothes that will fit her and look appropriate for her age. She has to buy size 14 clothes for her and she is only 4 almost 5. This will be somewhat of a challenge but if she is paying me then I'm game.

Here's what I worked on over the weekend and finished today. The jumper is for a friend of DD's who is having a birthday party this weekend. They are heading to WDW in 2 weeks. The t-shirt is for her sister so they can coordinate for the trip.

Thanks!

A scratch and sniff?

If I remember correctly,-----ahem....enough "scratching" is already going on. ;) Add the sniffing to the mix, and it could REALLY make for some interesting photos!

I KNOW! Now she's graduated to placing her hand down the back of her pants as if her bum cheek is a pocket...OY! I always have Purelle handy, I tell you what!

Well at least it's somewhat better than the "private itch of '07" posted for all the world to see.

Ya, and thanks for getting me hooked on that Farbenmix Patterns website! :rolleyes1 Good stuff there.

Yes, but I don't think my Walmart's fabric dept. is staffed by experts, if you know what I mean.

I just was there asking for a denim sewing machine needle and you'd think I just sprouted a third eye by how confused they were. :sad2:

We are the Hojoki clan we thought of that one day while we were ordering pizza, it's a combo of our names. ;) I'm sure Brian would be all for moving to Utah though! It sure is pretty out there. Plus you have that cool loin cloth restaurant!!! But, Michigan is really pretty too!!! And, we have Michigan's Adventure!!! (amusment park) We could all just move to Florida though. :rotfl:

How old is Seth? I'm thinking double wedding, Arminda's 9. ;)

I second the moving to Florida idea. Specifically, the Tampa area is very nice! ;)

Those dolls are so cute DD wants one lol - and such a pretty outfit. Oh well my DD's bubbas (cabbage patches) are coming on holiday with us too so now do you mean they need matching outfits too :rolleyes1

ooooh and do share which model is yours ;) :cutie:

If I have some scraps and I am so inclined I will make something for the doll. It seems I play with that doll more than Megan though!

I thought I saw your DD on there. I didn't know for sure though. By the way love the outfit.

Thanks!

I have a question on the Ariel pillowcase applique. I saw where a lot of people used the side with Ariel and the flowers, but on the other side did you use the one where she has her arm in the air and if so what did you do with her arm? Did you just cut it off or what? Please posts pics if you have them.

I found this one Aimee did on the photobucket account. She just used the face so I don't think it will help you much.

Ariel001.jpg

Oh my goodness, is he a cutie! You did a great job on all the outfits. I bet those princesses will be all over him!

Stephres....Megan is an absolute doll on ycmt!!!!! Wow, we know some real models!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTG girls!!!!

I agree - so sweet (I just found the gallery page lol) and what a clever mama she has - well done mama :)

Thank you!

Very cute! Are you going to use the larger daisy on a headband or something? It is too cute to just throw out.

Hey all,

I am not a parent, but I read this thread every couple of days because I love the outfits all of you make for your kids!

one question, though...what is ycmt?

thanks! :goodvibes

Hi! I see someone answered your questions (youcanmakethis.com) but I wanted to say Go Noles!

There's our doll baby! She looks so happy in her minnie skirt. I can't wait to see the ariel and cupcake outfits on! I am not a gymboree shopper for the most part but I know their stuff is way cute.

I love the conversation hearts on the t's!! Are they embroidered??
Yep! Nana used her new 5x7" embroidery machine to make it for the girls!! They are embroidered on both the shirt and the peek-a-boo part of the skirt!

can someone please pm me the $700 item...I often have my eye on ones that end around 250 but never seen one go that high!

I adjusted the straps on dd's Mary Poppins dress and finally tried it on. I think it is my favorite!!! I hope you can see the necklace with the blue Mickey shaped beads. It is for fantasmic but the colors work!!! DD is also sporting the new puddle jumpers. They are fantastic!!!

Here is the applique again because you really could not see it in the pics. :)

Here is my younger DD's dress. It was made by Amanda Remembered.

Very cute! I can't wait to make clothes for dd's doll when she gets one for her birthday in August.

Let me know if you need any pointers, but I really find it a lot easier than sewing people clothes.

Oh my! I am CASEing this for sure! I can't remember if I bought the Tink pillowcase or not, but I have another Princess one and HCM that would be cute too.

Those are so cute and unique. Great job Nana! My mother is using her embroidery machine to make Megan's Easter dress; I am probably more excited than Megan to see it.

Beautiful! I think the "imperfections" give it a handmade special touch. Well, that's what I tell myself anyway!

A scratch and sniff?

If I remember correctly,-----ahem....enough "scratching" is already going on. ;) Add the sniffing to the mix, and it could REALLY make for some interesting photos!

LOL! I hope Wendy saves that picture for when Norah is a mouthy teenager!

Hi my sewing friends. I was supposed to go to my first "learn how to turn on my machine class last night" but it snowed and they cancelled the class until next week. It's a three week class but I was so looking forward to start. I see all of these beautiful things on here and can't wait to get started.

How disappointing! I hope you get to go next week.

I love the pirate outfit! Welcome back!

I love this. How difficult are those Farbenmix pattern? I have heard that they are a little different that the Simplicity/McCall's pattern, and wondering what makes them different?

Love it, and love the fabric and the pink and green.

Ladies, we are back from our trip about one week now. We had a fabulous time. i now thing everyone should go to Disney just one-on-one with their kids. It was a magical trip! Unfortunately i am way back on page 100. Here is the required from the old thread picture of the sewing machine at Minnies House.
th_Disney2008498.jpg

Glad that you had a great time in Disney. I don't think my dh would ever let me take the kids and go to Disney without him. He loves Disney just as much as I do.

The outfit looks great, and your dd is sooo cute!!

Good Morning!

School is on a two hour delay, so I thought I would take a few pictures of my latest creation.

Wow Tom, that is beautiful!!! Excellent job as always!!!!!

I finished my Minnie outfit yesterday. I think I'm going to go back & add some shirring to the bodice, but I ran out of elastic thread. Angelcakes wouldn't pose for me today, I think it's naptime. She did however get to wear her PINK bow with this outfit. :lmao:

I am thinking about purchasing some patterns on YMCT today, but couldn't decide what to purchase......so I was wondering what are some of your favorite patterns from YMCT that you would recommend? I think I am suffering from fabric store withdrawals...I haven't been to the fabric store in over a week...and feel the need to buy something! LOL So share with me your suggestions on which patterns to buy.... I am thinking the peek-a-book skirt, but what else?
