Okay, here is Lily's pre-shirred, pre-hemmed Minnie dress from Joanns. I did not adjust the length at all, just sewed it up and added ribbons. She inisited on wearing it even though it is FREEZING outside right now. Good thing we're not going anywhere! And please NO CASING this!!!!! ALL of my creative powers went into this one!:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: (just to be sure, you know I'm all kidding, right?) And hey, it matches the purple purse she must carry everywhere!

I PROMISE I won't case! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I do have one question though. When you cut & sew this, do you just take the chest measurement and sew it at that measurement? Or do you decrease a bit so that it will stay up?

That is just too cute. You do great work and you can't tell at all that you aren't using a pattern.

My daughter has Beach day tomorrow and I've been eyeing this fabric for a while at Walmart. Decided to get it and made this today using TJ's gathering method. It will be for our cruise as well.
Another question. I was on :wizard: and saw customs made out of beach towels. Has anyone done this? Are they hot to wear? Guess I can add towels to the list of odd things to make customs out of. I even looked for a cute one at WalMart today with no luck. They had some cute bathroom towels with appliques though.

I have a towel in my stack of stuff to make. I want to make a bathing suit cover up with it. I'm planning to cut it in an a-line shape with ribbon straps, and something embroidered on the center chest area. Other than that, I can't say I've seen anything made out of towels.

Cracked me up? I think that's a typo. Didn't you mean "Crackyed me up?"

Did I? LOL :lmao:

I've been lurking around here for a while, and thought I would post some pics of the P&PP outfits I made. I am a definite NEWBIE so they aren't very good, but they were fun to make. I'm looking forward to doing more for our September trip! (and praying for a princess, so I can make some of these adorable girl outfits!;) )

You did a great job on those!!! :)

Just about 15 days until our trip and I think the kids have enough outfit...well, more than enough I think...there are a few unfinished projects that I need to finish up within the next couple weeks, but I just haven't been really motivated to sew lately. I figured even if I don't finish them...they will have more than enough anyways. Anyway, here are all the outfits for our 7 day/6 night trip - some of them probably could use some ironing, and also excuse the wrinkly blanket that I lay them on. Most of my dd's customs were made with CarlaC's pattern! Love her patterns!!!!

This is for dinner at Ohana during our first night - ds's shirt is store bought at ToysRus

Wow...you have been sewing like crazy, haven't you. Everything looks adorable. I hope you all have a wonderful trip!!!! :)

One thing that you might could do for Prince Charming's top is just get a really nice white shirt and buy some of the gold braiding and stitch it to the shoulders.
That is a great idea!

OMG I am SOOO far behind! BTW our honeymoon period with our four year old that we want to adopt is officially over.:rotfl2: It has been a long two days to say the least. Hopefully it will get better over the next few months (think it will). We have her set up to see a therapist and doing all the other things that you do to make sure they are ok. Will just play wait and see but in the past we have had some pretty hard little kiddos to get along with and by the time they leave they always are doing a ton better. Maybe since she is staying we will get to reap some of the benefits of structure on a kiddo!!!

I love everyones stuff. I didn't bother quoting because there is soooo much! My you ladies have been BUSY!

Lisa I love your sets as always ! I really love the pirate stuff! What did you ask for to get Zoe's hair that way? It is PRECIOUS I would love to do it with Alaysias in Dec.

Enchanted Princess would you mind sharing what the pattern is for the sleeping beauty dress? i adore it your other stuff is precious as well! Looks like you are all set! :goodvibes

I love the big give stuff! I still have the minnie dot fabric and I picked up the purple princess fabric for it. Since I cannot sew my way out of a paper bag I thought I would save us all the embarrasment and just send fabric to those that need it lol.

The crown on the big give outfit? What did you use? It is perfect!
Hey Callie...you are an angel for doing what you do. I will be praying that all works out for you and your family. Major hugs to you!!

Because you ladies (and Tom) are so talented!!!!!!:worship:

But I am comforted in the fact that I making it with love....

again no pattern (too complicated for me:headache: ) I decided to go simple,
this is the designs( I wanted to make 2 outfits)

Linnette

WOW Linnette...you are amazing, I don't know how ANYONE can sew without a pattern. I think that pink dress is adorable and I know Isabelle will love it. I can't wait to see how the other one turns out. You ROCK girl!

Et Tu Linette?!?!?! Would ya'll slow down on the BIG GIVE stuff already!!! I finally got the last of my fabric yesterday (except for some I'm waiting on in the mail...crap, I forgot) and meant to get it cut out last night so when the other fabric arrives i can "whip" it up as ya'll say. But then was sidetracked by the ever pressing teacher's gift idea...Again, WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF , did I mention that between gifted and his regular class he has 3 teachers????
perhaps you are a "glutton for punishment"...hahaha...JUST KIDDING!!!

I just popped in to say hello to everyone. hope everyone is feeling better about everything. Just wanted to say hello.
I did finally finish my peter pan outfit. whewww...

Lori

Wow Peter Pan is my DD's favorite. I will have to check it out!

I have a stupid question what s the difference between a serger and a sewing machine?

Should I maybe considering just getting a serger instead of replacing my sewing machine? Or if I get really into this would I probably want both?
:confused3

SEWING MACHINE QUESTION!!!

I asked a sewing machine question a few pages back but am now asking something a little different.

I have family looking to buy me a new sewing machine for my b'day and I am trying to decide between the Brother Disney SE270D embroidery machine or the Brother SE350 embroidery machine. Seems that my SIL found out that Wal-Mart is discontinuing the Disney machine and the other one is replacing it. The SE350 is $25.00 more.

Which would you buy?

Hi can you tell me where to buy all the appliques can you get them at fabric stores love the Disney ones thank you :cool1: :cool1:

a serger makes those nice seams on the inside of outfits. it does not actually sew anything. just keeps seams from fraying

you can get some at joannes. they sell thick ones there. otherwise you have to hand piece and sew them.

I just looked at the website and compared the two machines. If it were me I would go with the SE350. It has more stitch attributes and needle positions, and upper and lower thread sensors.

I think that most that own a serger do so in addition to a sewing machine. They really do different things. I use my serger to finish seams, and to do rolled edge hems. I couldn't live without my serger or my sewing machine.

I didn't answer because I wasn't really sure how much you want to spend. I have the Singer Futura 150. It is a sewing/embroidery machine. I use it only for embroidery, so I can't really answer if I love it for sewing. I do love the embroidery portion of it.

I'm not familiar with the machines that you have mentioned. The only advice I would give would be this:

1. Buy the largest hoop size that you can afford.
2. Buy a machine that allows you to import designs (via USB port or some other means). It's great being able to download designs and use them, rather than having to buy new cards (they can be pretty pricy).

Good luck!

Hi can you tell me where to buy all the appliques can you get them at fabric stores love the Disney ones thank you :cool1: :cool1:

You can find some pre-made appliques on ebay. I think most of the appliques that are posted here are hand pieced & sewn.

So I don't actually NEED a serger it is just a nice thing to have especially if I really get into sewing clothes or sewing in general but for a casual sewer a sewing machine is my best bet?

I finally got Violette into the pooh outfit....um yea...this is the best I could do, she just wants to run around..hehehe...hopefully that's clear enough :) I just pinned the shorts because I don't want to put an elastic in them til it's time to go to Disney. But I'm thinking I might add another ruffle to the bottom instead and make it a dress. What do you think?

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments on my customs...now to figure out how to pack and bring it with us.

Enchanted Princess......I love all the outfits and can't wait to see your pics of the kids wearing them!! You have done a great job!

One thing that you might could do for Prince Charming's top is just get a really nice white shirt and buy some of the gold braiding and stitch it to the shoulders.

Thanks for the idea...I might just do that!!!

Jenny, I love everything you have!! Your kids will love the attention. I'm sure you'll get plenty. Be sure we get a trip report when your back.

WOW!!! You have been BUSY!!! Outfits are so incredibly adorable!!! I hope you will take lots of pictures and do a trip report so we can see the outfits in action!!!

awesome!!!
I will definitely be taking lots of pictures..but I am afraid that my trip report will be really boring compared to all of yours! I am not much of a writer...wonder if I can talk my dh into writing one. He wrote the birth story for both kids, and everyone loved it!

HI Enchanted princess your Aurora dress is stunning your daughter is going to be the prettiest little girl at the tea party my friend just made me a Belle dress and a bunch of outfits for our trip in August i wish i could sew as it cost me a lot :cool1: :cool1:

Yes, you can sew!!!! If I can sew, everyone can sew....go for it!!

Enchanted Princess would you mind sharing what the pattern is for the sleeping beauty dress? i adore it your other stuff is precious as well! Looks like you are all set! :goodvibes

I used Simplicity 9384. I love how it turned out, but wasn't exactly fun making it!

th_IMG_1113-2-1.jpg

and Jenny, your outfits are amazing!

Thanks..and I love that fabric!!! Is that Michael Miller's Disco Dots? I must get some in all the different colors....I saw a little girl in dd's sunday school class wearing a dress made out of that fabric on Sunday, and two weeks ago, I saw another girl wearing a different dress with the pink/lime dots.

I have two questions:

First: For those of you out there who do not have sergers, when you sew something, do you zigzag around every piece before you start? I know LisaZoe said that she did this before she got a serger but I was wondering if anyone else was this anal, or is it just me? I hate to have little threads hanging off everywhere and this seems to do the trick until I get a serger but was just wondering. Of course I'm doing a storybook panel skirt with lots of small pieces and hate zigzagging all of them but too anal to stop!

Second: This is probably something that only I don't know,..........but when you buy fabric there are all of the circles on the sides with numbers in them. What do those mean? Is it for buying coordinating fabric and colors? If I buy a fabric that has a blue circle with a number 4 in it, will it match another fabric that has a blue circle with a number 4 in it?

Okay, thanks for the break from zigzagging! I'll get back to it now!

I need a serger so I can stop all of the zigzagging! Or no more patchwork skirts with little pieces!

I zigzag all my seams. I have no idea what those circles on the sides means..I would be interested to know as well.

That looks great!!! I have yet to make something without a pattern...you are doing great!!!

AND I am still looking for LiL' EINSTEIN fabric and chip and dale fabric...where do you guys keep finding chip and dale fabric??????

..t.

My Hancock has the Little Einstein fabric...I bought my chip and dale fabric from :wizard:.

okay here it is the great hair chopping of 2008! I am ready for Florida heat now!!!! Wish I could unload the extra weight that easy.
Befor the cut!

DD gets hers don

I love your hair cut!! You look great!!!! I was thinking of getting mine chopped off, but I am too afraid to cut too much taken off.

I love the matching brother sister sets. that is one of the big reasons I sew. I can't believe you did that many button shirts. I know from experience how hard they are, but how cute they look!

I am not a fan of those button shirts either, but my ds loves them! I keep making them because every time after I done, he is so excited to try them on and then he goes around all day saying ..."Thank you, mama for my new shirt!. I like it!".

Now an off-topic questions....some of you might remember that at the end of April, my kiddos left the water running upstairs and flooded our house....we finally found a general contractor to do the work, and he is putting in the orders for the materials tomorrow. It will take approx 1 week for them to complete everything. Would you give them your house key so they can work on your house while you are away on vacation...that way, they will be working when no one is here and everything will be completed when we come home? I have just never considered this before until he told us that some people has done that... or of course, we can just wait until we come back and have them start before we go and hope that they finish before we leave.

Jenny
 How can you not keep making them for him? I need to make 1 or a few for my DS. He's been so good about me making stuff for the girls.

On the house thing I would be OK leaving the key but my DH would be a wreck and worry our entire trip about it so I know it wouldn't work for us. Do you have family who could check on the house while you're gone?

:offtopic:
Tomorrow is DD's Last Day of School. She has been running a fever since Wednesday night. Right now it is 101.1 She also has a headache and a sore throat.

They are having a baby shower for DD's Teacher at 11:00.

So do I take DD to school for the day? What if she doesn't have a fever tomorrow morning. Usually I don't send her back for 24 hours after the fever.

But I know she will need to bring some stuff home from school too.

Should I just go in to the school and drop off the gift and pick up DD's stuff? I think that is the best choice. I really don't want to expose the pregnant teacher to DD's germs.

Has your child ever been sick on the last day of school?

I have the Brother SE350. I love it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it won't take the Disney embroidary cards. It does have the option for you make your own cards, but that requires a separate program and an adapter for your computer. I think DH is going to get it for me for my Birthday or Christmas.
I finally got Violette into the pooh outfit....um yea...this is the best I could do, she just wants to run around..hehehe...hopefully that's clear enough :) I just pinned the shorts because I don't want to put an elastic in them til it's time to go to Disney.
