Hello ladies and Tom! Hope everyone's having a great holiday! We went birthday shopping for Miss Ella today and out to lunch with the IL's. It was a great day!

Now that I have a few days off, I'm going to go shopping tomorrow for fabric for my BIG GIVE project! I'm excited! I just hope it turns out as cute in person as it is in my head, you know? I can't wait till everyone starts posting pics of what they've made!

I also just finished this dress for my daughter to wear on our next trip. I made it a bit large so that she will, I hope, still fit into it when we go. I had been wanting to try this pattern for a while, and now that I have it's one of my favorites.

I'm totally picturing it in my head with a white crochet cloche (that I'll have to buy. A girl only has so much time for creative pursuits, lol.)

That is adorable! Do you mind sharing the pattern? I saw this great toile fabric at Wal-Mart the other day that would be great in that style.

The Minnie head looks good btw.

I'll PM you some of my favorite sellers. That's where I've gotton my designs. I've not learned to digitize, so I have to buy all of my designs right now. There are several out there that offer great stuff!

Are you using the font that is pre-loaded in the Futura? I'm not a real fan of those fonts. They seem to not stitch real well for me. I've ended up buying several fonts to use that I like. Be warned - this can get expensive!

I was using the font that was pre-loaded. How do you use other fonts? My DH found a program that lets us use all the fonts on your computer but it was $200.00:scared1:

Hi everyone! I posted to this thread for a while last summer before and after our trip, but since then I've only lurked. I've loved seeing all of the fabulous outfits and the beautiful children, and reading about everyone's trips. I hope it's not too creepy that I've lurked for so long, lol. I've been a regular poster on a much smaller Disney-related message board for many years, but they're not sewers and there's only one of them who "gets" boutique clothing.

Anyway, I've been sewing for a long time, and I sew some for profit, but I was inspired to learn applique from this thread and from the fact that my taste in boutique clothing far outpaces my budget for it. A few days ago I finished my first Minnie head, and I'm going to try doing her entire body soon. I did it as a sample for someone using a small size t-shirt that I had on hand, so it's not being modeled by one of my kids in the pic, but I think you can see it fairly well. I'm happy with it. There are a few things that I'll do differently next time, but overall I think it looks pretty good.

That is the most ADORABLE dress!!! Being worn by the most ADORABLE child!!! So so so cute!!!

thanks for sharing it!! Can't wait to see more!!!:goodvibes

Are you using any Heat n' Bond when you do them? When I use Heat n' Bond I don't have that problem. It helps to bond the applique to the shirt.

To be completely honest with you I can't recall the brand but I do use some form of Heat n' Bond and I use the light version instead of the Ultra. Could that be the reason?

No - you need to use heat and bond light - the ultra would be too sticky to be sewn on/though and the needle would get all guncked up. . .

You may want to make your stitches wider. That way you cover more of the edge with your stitching.

You can buy fonts on ebay, or embroidery sites. They're just individual designs (one design for a, one design for b, etc). I don't have a program that lets me use any TTF's. The $200 is holding me back. I'm sure I've spent more than that on designs already though.

Which leads me to this question. My appliques fray away from my embroidery line when I wash them. I put them in the machine on Hand wash so I thought I'd be safe that way. How do you keep them from fraying? I wonder if I just make my embroidery line to thin. Any tips??? It's too much work to wear just once. ;)

Not really a "sewer" but I can do appliques (not the really nice ones some of you all do, but simple Mickey head on a shirt kind of stuff). I use Heat N Bond and have never had any problems with fraying appliques. I love the stuff! The other thing I do with my customs is line dry them - I'm probably a little over-cautious.

Do you ever feel like there will not be enough time to make all of the outfits you have planned? We have 9.5 days to go and about 7 things still to work on. Ugh!

Be honest, can a total newbie at sewing tackle CarlaC's Peasant top? I handled the bodice of the criss cross dress just fine but my mom had to do the gathering of the skirt for me. I *think* I can do the peasant top (altered the pattern a bit to make it A line) from reading the pattern.

 love your outfits. That Minnie Head applique is really cute. You did a wonderful job! Did you make the matching bow too?

Welcome to the board and thanks for sharing your outfits.

I love themed costumes. We're doing MNSSHP as Hercules. How do you dot out the faces?

THANKS! I don't have an editing program, so I just used photobucket. (In fact, I just found it yesterday!). I can't remember which tool folder it was under, but if you click on edit by your picture it will come up with your picture and a bunch of folders above it. The second or third folder from the left has an eraser feature. The default eraser is in the shape of a circle and that exact size so it was really easy! :thumbsup2

I hope you don't all think I'm kooky for erasing the faces. So far, I love everyone who posts on this thread, and if this were a private board I would have no issues... It makes me nervous that this is the thread that pops up in google though when you are looking for anything sewing and disney related. I'm a bit overprotective...

You've done great stuff here! I love the mickeys on the end of the straps, and your minnie applique looks stunning!

YES!!! This pattern is very straighforward and IMO simple. The pictures make it very beginner friendly and all the ruffle options make it awesome for when you are more advanced and looking for more of a challenge/creative outlet!:thumbsup2

That pattern is very simple. I think you can do it! If you're adding a ruffle to the bottom, it will be a bit more difficult. The casing for the elastic is probably the most difficult thing, but it's not very bad at all. YOU CAN DO IT!

Thank you!!! I love that you guys think we're cute even without our faces... :lovestruc

I just wanted to check that you were using bobbin thread? It would definitely make the thread on top pack more closely... If you're already doing that, then I would suggest different fonts. They all tend to stitch differently (I have a Babylock, not a Futura).
I am using Bobbin Thread. THat is something I picked up from this thread:thumbsup2
Great work!
Can you drop your feed dog and feed the fabric manually? That way, you can control how the fabric feeds and you can get the stitches closer together.

The Feed dog is dropped but the machine controls the fabric.

OK, so I'm half done and here's the proof!! I took a bit of an easy option compared to the creations I know some of you will make, but they've still tested me. Sorry about the rubbish photography but me and the camera aren't seeing eye to eye at the minute!

Here's number one:

Picture171-1.jpg

Picture172-1.jpg

And number two - I was trying to be original and different on this but I guess you can't reinvent the mickey head!!

Picture169-1.jpg

Picture170-1.jpg

Now - have a made a mitake with the ricrac? The t-shirt is really set at the bottom now and has lost its stretch. The t-shirt is size 6-7 so hopefully will fit but would you take it off again? mmm I don't know.........

And finally DH asked me to make a case for his PSP. It just needs some velcro on the flap and I'm done!

Great job on the appliques. How clever to make a case for a PSP. It's cute!

Hey I don't have a project for the BIG GIVE. I want one!!!
MouseTriper is heading it up. PM hwer and I am sure there is something you can do!

That pattern was the 2nd one I did and I did ok. Just make sure the seam allowances are pointing the same way and that you feed the elastic that way and not backwards (not that anyone tried to do that:rolleyes1 )

Thanks. :) I have no idea who the original idea come form for most of my stuff but I'll do my best!! I only have like 5 outfits to share so I won't have to do much research. LOL

I am definitely not selling. LOL You'd couldn't pay me enough to make even one simple outfit because I am so slow and it takes me forever to do one simple thing. ;) Plus, all my stuff falls apart when I wash it so I don't think anyone would want any of my things anyway. They'd be demanding a refund! LOL :lmao:

I go around my appliques twice with the zig zag stitch. I haven't had any fray.
