Need some advice please.... I would like to make the YCMT round neck top but, I would like the shirt to be a little fuller. Like a swing top. Any advice on how to go about this. Or maybe this is just to much to take on for a beginner like me who only sews straight lines. My biggest accomplishment so far is making a pillowcase! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me! :thumbsup2

I also wanted to add a tip about Joanns. If you live in an area with a Giant Eagle- they have Joanns gift cards. I have been buying the gift cards in $50 increments and using them on my trips to Joanns. I have been earning double fuel perks on those purchases. So for every $50 I spend at Joanns I get $.20/gallon of gas. It really starts to add up. We got a free tank of gas the other day... My Dh was so cute. He said "honey come here you have to see this. They gallons are going up, but money still says zero. He was so amazed! With gas prices the way they are, I am sure we could all use a way to save a little money. HTH!

Wow, that is fantastic! I wish we had something like that around here! Great deal!

So I usually try not to post too much about my personal woes (because they are mostly boring), but I figured the mood needs lightening up around here so I'll go OT for a minute.

Last week Louie and I took the train down to Richmond, VA to visit my folks. Our house is currently on the market, so I figured it was good to get out of town rather that clean up after Lou constantly.

Now I'm a pretty low-maintenance kind of gal - rarely wear makeup, spend the day in yoga pants and t shirts, don't wear shoes unless I have to - you get my drift (I'm kinda earthy-crunchy). I decided that since my mom would be around to watch Lou that I would do something nice for myself. I decided to get a haircut (which I usually do myself) and highlights (which the sun usually does for me).

I went to one of the hairdressers at my mom's favorite salon. She gave me a trim right before my brother's wedding (I looked like a sheepdog before), and I liked it. So I figured she would be OK to give me a cut and a few highlights :confused3 .

Well, it was a busy day in the salon, and my gal slapped some foils on my head, put me under the dryer, and took a few other customers. It seemed like I was under there a loooong time. When she took the foils off, it looked like clumps of wet, white thread fell out. She washed it, dried it, trimmed it, and told me how great it looked. Now being that I don't really know how properly highlighted hair should look, I agreed with her politely. But in reality, I looked like I had aged 20 years.

I got home, and as soon as I stepped out of the car my dad said "well, I can tell you've been riding with Shirley" (my mom's elderly friend who is a wild and crazy driver and had met us for lunch that day). Well, I knew he was making a joke about my hair and wasn't too happy  . Neither was my mom - she chewed him out several times that afternoon.

Anyway, my mom convinced me that I looked stunning, so I decided to live with the hair. I got back to CT and got all these non-compliments like "oooooh - you frosted your hair, good for you." So I decided to darken my hair up - how hard could it be, right???

Well, I bought some stuff that is specifcally meant to cover gray hair. Even though my white strands were brought on by bleach, I figured it would have the same impact and make me normal. The stuff was orange coming out of the tube, but the instructions said that the color of the goo was not necessarily representative of the color that the hair would end up.

My hair is now kind of orangey-brownish.

:scared1:

My stepson says it looks better than it did, but I think that is just another non-compliment. :sad2:

OK - enough whining - back to work...

Got to love the non-compliments! Your stepson probably was being sincere but like most boys wasn't sure how to phrase it! My DH always says things like that and I know he means for what he says to be nice and positive but you are left wondering what exactly he was trying to say!

This is totally OT but I had to share to lighten the mood. Russell was being really quiet, too quiet in fact so I went into my room to find this......

Aww, I love the pictures!!!!

As requested LOL Corey meets JORD!

100_5186.jpg

THANK YOU CINDEE!!!! I just showed Corey and he is cracking up!!!

Really, what other almost 16 year old can look so stinkin handsome holding a doll???!!!???

When Corey was about 3 (this was before Arminda was born) he started carrying around a little doll that he named Chuckie (because we allready had a doll named Tommy). He was about Jord's size. Poor Chuckie doesn't have any legs anymore, he was so loved! He was special to both of us .:grouphug: The girls still play with him, but Corey lets them know that Chuckie is HIS! :rotfl:

I promise that this is the last time. I was gonna post a new thread and ask opinions but with all the creative ladies on here I just thought I would ask you all what you think. Hope noone minds. I am painting my living room and decided the original color was a little bright (COUGH, understatement) so I though about doing a darker stripe on it. Can I have honest opinions. This room opens up into another with light tan walls. This is our family/tv room.

I like it! I think it looks great! And I LOVE the entertainment center. Great job putting it together.

I've been putting together drawers for my sewing room this evening. I'm hoping to have this project finished by Monday. I'll post a pic when I get it done. It's no where near as good as the entertainment center though!

Need some advice please.... I would like to make the YCMT round neck top but, I would like the shirt to be a little fuller. Like a swing top. Any advice on how to go about this. I've not made this top yet. BUT, if I were guessing, I would think you could just flare out the seam instead of making it straight.

Aww she looks so pretty in her new Minnie top!!! Now I must ask....how can you get away with just 1-day at Disneyland??? LOL. Don't you need more??? More..more??? LOL.

Well, here's the story :lmao: My nephew is getting married in L.A. on June 7  at first I planned for the whole family to drive out there and go to the wedding and spend a few days at Disneyland. However, DH did not really have enough vacation time accrued (seeing as he is on a trip w/DS right now). SO, I told him that since he was forcing me to cancel our family Disneyland trip for June, that he would have to agree to a trip in October, which he did (a little guilt and getting Luke to say "Daddy, can we please go to Disneyland for my birthday?" did the trick). But I still had to go to the wedding of course, so I am flying out with just DD10 (and my sisters, one nephew and 1 niece) for a long weekend for the wedding. Somehow, we are going to find ourselves at Disneyland one of those days :rolleyes1

Wednesday is my Birthday and Friday was my Husband's birthday. So, tonight we had a family cookout Birthday Party!:goodvibes

Well, my DH asked everyone to give me and him JoAnn's Gift cards so that we can buy me an embroidery machine!:yay:

So I am getting a Singer Futura!!!

Wow! That is a fantastic husband! Mine isn't bad but I don't think he would do that for me. He might buy it for my birthday but not for his!

I promise that this is the last time. I was gonna post a new thread and ask opinions but with all the creative ladies on here I just thought I would ask you all what you think. Hope noone minds. I kind of like the colors but what color is your furniture in the room? The color of your furniture I think could make or break the colors. The entertainment center looks great with it though!

Thanks eveyone that commented on the paint so far. The furniture is a sage green but I was just saying to MIL the other day that it has seen better days sso I am on the lookout for furniture on the super cheap! I am accenting with alot of creamy whites and off whites. My curtains are a small plaid that has the colors in it. That is where I pulled them from. It is a huge change because the walls use to be a light green. Thanks also on the comments on the entertainment center. It took me a good 4 hours on and off to get it together. the trickiest parts was doing the doors by myself.

I am getting prepared for my trip, but I just had to comment on a couple of things:

Anyone planning a trip for 2009? I know there are a lot of you that go every year but for those that don't -- anyone going in '09???

One of my SIL's sent me an email this week with a day countdown to 2009 of when she wanted us to go. Who all will there?

We might be planning something for Jan 09! Not for sure yet, so no customs yet!:scared1: LOL

Good thing I already bought paint to redo the room!

Okay, I think I have found my 18mo future husband!LOL I walked into her room the other day and found her holding a red marker in which she had colored her entire face, hands, clothing, and EVERYTHING in her room! It was hilarious that I could actually look and see that she had started in one corner of the room and walked around the entire room drawing on everything!:rotfl:

I can't believe he did it either! I am really excited and I hope I like the Singer. It seems like a lot of ladies here have the Brother machines.

The Minnie Dot turned out so cute! Great job!

I have the singer futura and I LOVE it! I think you will too!

Sorry I didn't comment on everything, but I just hopped on for like a minute! I will see everyone when I return from my trip!:grouphug:

Wonderful!!!!!I love the Tweety crib sheet!!! Isn't it funny, some people make blankets out of thir children's old clothes, and we make clothes out of thir old sheets!

I'm so sorry. I haven't been around much lately. Life is busy with three teens and a toddler. I am sorry to hear you are sick. Big hugs
Thank you for the hugs! Hugs back. I feel good enough to lurk every once in awhile and I knew I hadn't seen you lately. I really miss the cute pics of your daughter!

you have got to take care of yourself first
Thank you!

I don't a disease as you do. But I understand the energy issue!! I have RSDS, which an unknown disorder of the nervous system. It starts with a minor injury that takes too long to heal and it's recently spread to both legs. The pain can be unbearable and the pain meds make me very tired. Sewing is my therapy.

I'm sure your kids are beautiful and glad to have you with them.
I'm sorry to hear about your nerve disorder. I have peripheral neuropathy, nerve problems:laughing:, from my autoimmune, so I truly feel for you. The pain is unbearable and it makes me very grouchy....:lmao: It's a good thing my dh and kids love me.....or I might be homeless.

My hair is now kind of orangey-brownish.

I don't think I have mentioned this, but on Thursday my baby boy Oscar (my 220 pound English Mastiff) had a seizure. I heard a thud in my bedroom and found him lying on his side foaming at the mouth, pawing his feet and he had wet himself. It lasted about a minute (a very long minute it seemed to me). And of course, DH was not at home (are DH's ever home when you REALLY need them?). So I called the vet and they said to bring him in today. I took him this morning and had a bunch of blood work done. The vet said that lots of dogs do have seizures for no reason at all. We will find out the results on Tuesday. Hopefully it will be nothing but their is a neurologist in town that will see him (a vet, not a people one) and do an MRI if necessary. I know it seems silly to some people (since he is a dog and not a person) but if you have a chance please say a little prayer for my Oscar. Thanks!

Need some advice please.... I would like to make the YCMT round neck top but, I would like the shirt to be a little fuller. Like a swing top. Any advice on how to go about this. I reeeeeaaaallly need to go to bed, just wanted to say, when I was looking at the pattern, it has you cut your front and back pieces in a wedge shape. If you just keep the top the same width and make the bottom wider, you will have a fuller top. Sounds cute!

:goodvibes Ohhh you did the RIGHT thing .....getting an October trip out of it and still getting to go for at least one day in June. I will take 1-day at Disney over zero days anytime!!! I bet your oldest is very excited!!! I grew up in Southern California and I really miss 3 things...my family, the beach and of course Disneyland! I wish I was going back in June!!!

Anyone planning a trip for 2009? I know there are a lot of you that go every year but for those that don't -- anyone going in '09???

One of my SIL's sent me an email this week with a day countdown to 2009 of when she wanted us to go. Who all will there?

sigh I thought I had a Disneyland trip planned for teh Summer of 09 but now DH is talking about taking a year off from ALL THINGS DISNEY! :scared1: Not right I tell you!

I just got back from both Joann and Hancock fabrics. Nice sales this weekend.

I came home with two pieces of pre-shirred stuff, a Minnie print and a princess print. I should have those made with in the hour. I also got some of that princess vinyl, I'm going to make a table cloth for Delaney's little table, I got some very light pink flannel to back it and I'll put bias tape around the outside.

I found that fabulous monkey chain fabric! I'm going to make a tiered skirt out of it, I got both the tan and white back ground. The ladies who had the tanks with them are those a gymboree top or did you make those as well? We're members of the National Zoo and I figured DD could wear the skirt and a top to the big event they have in June.

Is anyone going to be at Disney World the first week of June? We arrive on the 1st and leave late on the 7th.

Can I just say I am green? I miss Joanns sooo much! I cannot wait to see the preshirred minnie stuff! Hopefully they will still have some in Dallas in a few weeks when I have to go! Have a great time on your trip too! princess:

WOW that is awesome! I have never seen that....where did you get that material?? I bet the little guy just LOVES it!!!

I found it at Walmart it was on clearance a tye blanket kit for 6 bucks! I have been looking everywhere for more. Shannon did you buy them all around here and not tell me. :rotfl: He does love it. Snuggles up with it every night now. :goodvibes

wanted to post some pics of a set I did for the kids to waer to my old grade school's carnival. The pics are not the best as I was learning my camera but you can kinda see the outfits. I love this one and will have to get better ones to post too. I appliqued ballons on the pants and they turned out really cute if I do say so myself. the fabric is adorable! It was my 1st button down shirt for DS, I sure hope they get easier. I would love to see one on YCMT, thier patterns are in English LOL! Ignore the jacket, it was chilly that night and the girls with the kids are my cousins daughters; I brought them along because they never get to see each other.

Aww cute stuff~! Looks like they had a ball too!

QUESTION: How do you pack your pretty outfits for travelling?? How do you keep them all sorted etc and some of the stuff is pretty big and boufy. I'll need to do some trial packing runs I think :)

I used the new reynolds vacuum sealer to pack Jenna's clothes. I was able to fit 16 outfits including two princess dresses in her little suitcase. Just remember to bring the vacuum sealer with you.

first off... I absolutely love everything you all have been putting out! the outfits/projects are amazing! you all have been seriously busy. I've been busy but not in a fun sewing kind of way. so busy... haven't even been lurking (I'm serious! I was around page 45!) I'm up to page 76... I give up for the night. but to keep it short (too late!), I love love love everything. And I will try to catch up again tomorrow.

I also have to ask a favor. My husband's grandfather has been in the hospital since Monday. He's in his 80's and all of the sudden got hit by a virus or something. He was fine at 10am, by 3pm Monday he was completely different. Anyway, by tuesday he had "hospital psychosis" (i think that's what my hubbie calls it). Basically, he doesn't know where or when he is. He's reliving every decade and having full conversations w/ people he hasn't seen in 40 years. They also haven't figured out what afflicted him in the first place. So good thoughts/vibes/prayers would be much appreciated... that they find out what is wrong, that he gets his bearings back, that he's not in pain. I'm not picky. I just don't want him to suffer. and now I have to stop before I start crying and wake Scott up. Good night all. Happy Sunday!
