wanted to post some pics of a set I did for the kids to waer to my old grade school's carnival. The pics are not the best as I was learning my camera but you can kinda see the outfits. I love this one and will have to get better ones to post too. I appliqued ballons on the pants and they turned out really cute if I do say so myself. the fabric is adorable! It was my 1st button down shirt for DS, I sure hope they get easier. I would love to see one on YCMT, thier patterns are in English LOL! Ignore the jacket, it was chilly that night and the girls with the kids are my cousins daughters; I brought them along because they never get to see each other.

I have been debating 2 options: 1) stay away from here for a few days hoping the craziness dies down, or 2) just pay attention to the positive. I decided option 2 because I don't want some of your wonderful creations to go underappreciated! :rotfl: Beyond that I will just try to keep my mouth shut.

I spent the morning sewing, while the kids were outside playing.
This is Alexis' Nassau dress. I found this bahama fabric and bought it, even though it wasn't a great color...but this is what I did with it. Alexis picked out the fabric she wanted out of the sewing cabinet. I'm not thrilled with it, but it's good enough for bumming around Nassau.

Very cute! That is cool fabric. I'm so jealous of your cruise!

OK, so here is the set that I mentioned last night. I absolutely loved the style of this top from gymboree, so I bought it and made a pattern from it. I had seen commercial patterns like it, but only in infant to 24 month size. I thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong! Anyway, here's the gymbo top:

gymbo3.jpg

Isn't it so cute?

And here's mine - this was just an experiment - I used fabric that I had left over from a dress I made last year. I didn't want to use fabric that I loved just in case I messed it up.

I think it turned out ok. It was hard trying to figute out how to sew it together, though, because of the criss cross straps and the fact that I wanted it to be reversible like the gymbo one.

Ok, and here's one more I almost forgot to post - I finally bought the round neck pattern from ycmt. I've had this fabric for a while now, finally got to use it!
roundnecktop1.jpg

Whew! that was a lot of pics. Hope everyone's having a great Saturday and will enjoy the long weekend!

Okay, too weird. I KNOW you and I have the same tastes in many things, but I bought that exact same Gymboree top for Lily, mainly to USE IT AS A PATTERN :rotfl: and traced it all out but haven't made anything I can't quite figure it out. How did you end up making it work? I looks darling!

Anyone planning a trip for 2009? I know there are a lot of you that go every year but for those that don't -- anyone going in '09???

One of my SIL's sent me an email this week with a day countdown to 2009 of when she wanted us to go. Who all will there?

Lucky!

Can someone who has made both CarlaCs peasant pattern and the roundneck pattern tell me how they compare? I have made a couple of pairs of the easyfit pants (great pattern!) and I need to make a top but have been putting it off. I have the peasant pattern and know I will buy the other one too but which would you make first if you were really new to tops?

Thanks!!

I haven't made the roundneck pattern yet, but I have looked at it. the peasant top is definitely simpler, plus no buttonholes!

So I usually try not to post too much about my personal woes (because they are mostly boring), but I figured the mood needs lightening up around here so I'll go OT for a minute.

Last week Louie and I took the train down to Richmond, VA to visit my folks. Our house is currently on the market, so I figured it was good to get out of town rather that clean up after Lou constantly.

Now I'm a pretty low-maintenance kind of gal - rarely wear makeup, spend the day in yoga pants and t shirts, don't wear shoes unless I have to - you get my drift (I'm kinda earthy-crunchy). I decided that since my mom would be around to watch Lou that I would do something nice for myself. I decided to get a haircut (which I usually do myself) and highlights (which the sun usually does for me).

I went to one of the hairdressers at my mom's favorite salon. She gave me a trim right before my brother's wedding (I looked like a sheepdog before), and I liked it. So I figured she would be OK to give me a cut and a few highlights :confused3 .

Well, it was a busy day in the salon, and my gal slapped some foils on my head, put me under the dryer, and took a few other customers. It seemed like I was under there a loooong time. When she took the foils off, it looked like clumps of wet, white thread fell out. She washed it, dried it, trimmed it, and told me how great it looked. Now being that I don't really know how properly highlighted hair should look, I agreed with her politely. But in reality, I looked like I had aged 20 years.

I got home, and as soon as I stepped out of the car my dad said "well, I can tell you've been riding with Shirley" (my mom's elderly friend who is a wild and crazy driver and had met us for lunch that day). Well, I knew he was making a joke about my hair and wasn't too happy  . Neither was my mom - she chewed him out several times that afternoon.

Anyway, my mom convinced me that I looked stunning, so I decided to live with the hair. I got back to CT and got all these non-compliments like "oooooh - you frosted your hair, good for you." So I decided to darken my hair up - how hard could it be, right???

Well, I bought some stuff that is specifcally meant to cover gray hair. Even though my white strands were brought on by bleach, I figured it would have the same impact and make me normal. The stuff was orange coming out of the tube, but the instructions said that the color of the goo was not necessarily representative of the color that the hair would end up.

My hair is now kind of orangey-brownish.

:scared1:

My stepson says it looks better than it did, but I think that is just another non-compliment. :sad2:

OK - enough whining - back to work...

Sorry about your hair Carla, but you made me laugh. The last time I was getting my highlights touched up I thought she was leaving it on a little long and was getting a bit scared. Now I'll be really paranoid! :rotfl:

Thanks. They kind of make me look like an athlete, too, huh? Truth is I was the last one over the finish line of the Minnie 15K. I am so sloooowwww, but, hey, I still finished it.

BTW, that is not me in my avatar. That is Ashley Tisdale who I absolutely resemble in no way. The whole pic is a "fabulous" inside joke. I guess it is time for me to change it.

I didn't know if it was you or not in the avatar, but I just liked the little pictures at the bottom. We were in Epcot during a marathon, and it was so inspiring...I'm afraid even if I trained, I would never make it...LOL. Isn't it true that you have to make it to a certain point to continue...

Your outfits are darling. I have yet to try anything with a collar. It looks to confusing to me :)

I also wanted to add. When my DD 10 was around 5 she won a fish at a carnival. That thing lived for almost 2 years. It died when I moved it from the 10 gallon tank in the house to the container pond I had on my patio. :confused3 It got so BIG, it was gross.

I just wanted to let you know I am going to type out the directions for the top Glorib made from the pattern I have for it. It is very simple. I am going to try to have them up tonight. I made a really cute top for Katie from that pattern.

I also have the gymbo shirt for Katie. We all have very good taste.

This is totally OT but I had to share to lighten the mood. Russell was being really quiet, too quiet in fact so I went into my room to find this......

Hey Girls,
I hope Im not attacked for saying this- but if you are still arguing-or whatever you want to call it, or want something removed- can you shift it to PMs so the rest of us can get back to our warm fuzzy sweet group. I really miss it- and we are like 10 pages in of this muck, aren't we beating a dead horse at this point?
AMEN to this! I am just so sad to be reading all the hostility on this board over the past 24-48 hours especially when everyone was being all sweet and lovey earlier this week.
I am sorry to those who feel betrayed or offended on this board. It appears a lot of the issues are related to misunderstandings. I would hate to see ladies (or men) feel like they have to leave the board now due to all this mess.
And finally, thank you to Teresa and Heather for maintaining the sewing links - they have been invaluable to me many a time. I know that is must take you both many hours to organize it all.

If there is anything that remains to be made for the BIG GIVE, please PM me. I would be happy to help but I do not have a lot of Disney fabric on hand.

Teresa and Heather,

I have been a part of the Disboards for many years. I don't post very often, but I am always online reading the Disboards. I'm not sure if anyone has ever told you how much that you are appreciated for all the hard work you have done with The Bookmarks, and The Photobucket account. I know how time consuming it is to keep this information current. I don't think I have ever known anyone, let alone two sisters so willing to help people that they have only known through the Disboards Families thread. Your mom should be very proud of both of you, she has raised you both very well. Please don't stop doing what you do!!!

THANK YOU TERESA AND HEATHER:cheer2: :cheer2:

Marianne

   I couldnt have said this better myself!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Three cheers for both of you gals!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Lily is just so adorable. Good luck with the new puppy.

jham, your kids are gorgeous and I am so jealous about your new fuzzy baby! Absolutely adorable.

I just wanted to point out, and I'm not pointing at any one person, the internet is very hard to interpret the tone of someone else's style of writing. Someone once told me to read everything on the internet as if Donald Duck was talking, it makes things interesting.

I know my personal writing style is sometimes very abrupt, usually when I'm trying hard not to offend someone and funny enough, the more matter of fact and to the point I am, the more I usually end up having someone misunderstand me.

I hope we can get passed this as a board, I really love coming here and getting both ideas and tips but it's been great getting to "know" folks online and hopefully I'll get to meet some in person as well. I'm to the point that this is pretty much the only board I read these days, I've been cutting down my computer time and when I'm reading, I'm reading here.

And to be on topic, I actually finished a little sun dress for Delaney with pink pre-shirred Disney Princess fabric. I thought it wouldn't take forever but I ended up making straps with the material and wow, what a pain to turn, I'll be using grograin ribbon for the Minnie Mouse pre-shirred dress I'll make tomorrow, it will got plenty faster that way.

I also managed to cut out the panels for the Cars skirt I want to make as well. I'll cut the rest of the stuff out tomorrow and hopefully get working on that as well.

I've got to start packing tomorrow we'll be 7 days out from our trip and I have gathered items to pack, made a list of things I need to pack, and purchased most of the things we needed, now I just have to actually put it in the suitcases. Delaney still hasn't figured out we're going so I'll have to try and pack in secret or we'll just have to let her know we're going.

Thanks! I'd love to see your pre-shirred dresses! I bought the minnie one yesterday for Lily and made it into a dress (okay, I sewed that one seam) and I have the grosgrain ribbon sitting there next to it, I just need to sew it on. I keep meaning to try it on her so I get the ribbon placement right. I'd hate to have the ribbons coming out of her armpits :rotfl:

On an UP topic- many of you may recall my post of Mulligan #3

HE GOT ADOPTED!!! He goes to his new home (GA to NH) next weekend!

I have a black lab in AL- Duke #25 who is my new pet project, and a yellow fellow in GA who needs to be checked out to see if we can save him.

Yeah!! I'm so glad he got adopted.

wanted to post some pics of a set I did for the kids to waer to my old grade school's carnival. The pics are not the best as I was learning my camera but you can kinda see the outfits. I love this one and will have to get better ones to post too. I appliqued ballons on the pants and they turned out really cute if I do say so myself. the fabric is adorable! Oh no!!!!

I remember when I was about 5, I got a really pretty pink marker. I just did NOT understand when my Mom did NOT appreciate my artist attempts around the house!!!

The peasant top in its most basic form is really easy. I would definately reccommend CarlaC's pattern over the Dainty Designs pattern too. The DD peasant top doesn't have the right curve to the neck or underarms to finish the top as described in the pattern--it's possible to do, but the end result is not nearly as nice as the CarlaC pattern. The round neck top isn't necessarily difficult, but a bit trickier than the basic peasant top. If you're fairly new to sewing, I would tackle the peasant top first before moving on to the round neck top. You'll be a pro in no time. :) Hope that helps!

I haven't made the roundneck pattern yet, but I have looked at it. the peasant top is definitely simpler, plus no buttonholes!

Thank you both! I will be making CarlaC's peasant top this weekend!

Sue

Good thing I already bought paint to redo the room!

I always knew he had talent!
He's just like his father.

Hi everyone! I have been lurking on here under disneylovinfamily's profile since she joined, I'm her DMIL. She finally set me up on my own. (I think she's tired of me losing her place!):rolleyes1

I am new here, and found this thread by doing a search on disney custom and have been lurking for about couple months. I have used a lot of ideas from here to create customs for my girls for our disney trip in August, but now I am hesitant to share my customs. Did I copy the customs that was made? Yes, I sure did and I thought that's what this board is all about. To share and to inspire others and I have never even heard of the term CASE until I started lurking here - to copy and steal everything.

Once my girls are done with their customs, will I sell my customs on ebay? Of course, I will. Why wouldn't I? If I don't, what am I going to do with those customs? Will I list them as something that I made? Sure, of course..because I did make them.

Then, I see the argument between having pictures in the public photobucket account, versus pictures on this thread or on ebay. Ya, don't make sense to me at all to throw a fit about having their pictures in the photobucket account, but have no problem plastering those pictures on here to share, and on ebay. I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures that I saved to my hard drive from the public photobucket account, and also from this thread here so I can re-create the same custom posted without having to go backa nd search this thread or the photobucket account. It is just easier for me to copy and save everything on my computer. Am I going to have to go and delete all those photos? It was posted out here on the internet, so i think it is fair game.
