Delicate Question (worded carefully):

Does the :wizard: fabric from "far away lands" come stinky?

If yes, is the stink easy to get out?

I was reading some comments on :wizard: and am scared to bid on said fabric.

When I traveled to China, the fabric on the tables did have an "odor". Hand washing with strong soap and the odor was gone.

:rotfl2:

my mom got fabric from "far away lands" once...it definitely had a stinky element to it. Nothing we could identify really...it just smelled rank! She hand washed it as well and it was good to go!:goodvibes

Oh I have a picture for one Miss Cammie of how Megan dressed herself for an evening out with her father and brother:

IMG_0182.jpg

I asked her nicely if she could change the black t-shirt and heeled flip flips for something more practical. I did insist on brushing her hair and ironing her jumper. She was quite the site, that was the night the pink-eye boy was hugging on her.

I love it! I've seen similar combinations on Zoe. Unless what she's wearing is totally impractical or inappropriate for the outing, I try to let her be her own stylist... but it's hard. :goodvibes

Hi everyone, we've been back since Thursday, but just now getting out from under the loads and loads of laundry. Will post pics when I get them all together, but I have one question. What do I do now that we're back and have nothing to sew for? Hubby says no trip for 3 years:scared1:

There are all kinds of reasons to sew - the top reason is your child will still wear what you've made. LOL

I haven't bought any myself but I've heard of the odor issue and don't remember anyone mentioning it didn't go away after laundering.

I did see this- but it does not look like the pants with the
Marie outfit you made....so does that mean you modified the pattern? I really want a pre-made pattern with a pant and short that have a ruffled edge (versus winging it)

I like YCMT rosie gauchos a lot. http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/featured-products/The-Growing-Up-With-Rosy-Gauchos.htm It includes a ruffle and markings to make any length you want. The leg is fairly wide. I have used it a lot. If you want a less full leg I would use Carla's easy fit pants, but I don't think they come with ruffle instructions?
These are all the rosie gauchos:

I used eyelet on these:

and added extra ruffles on these:

Those outfits are A-DORE-A-BLE!!! i do want a more narrow leg since she is 2, but really the size of a 18m old basically. Im gonna try using the pattern I have and adding a ruffle. i havent done this before- but Im willing to give it a try.

Got some navyblue fabric with Mickey Mouse
1a1c_1.JPG

from joann's ($40% off) and some left over quilt fabric that's yellow with tiny red dots. Cant wait, but Im just too tired today to get started. Tomorrow! I need to go buy Heat N Bond lite -think I will attempt my first applique- Ill use the yellow as the Mickey Head. The top has 2 tiers of ruffles, so I want to continue that theme (the pattern has straight shorts or pants) I plan to make shorts out of mickey fabric with yellow as ruffle.

I have bought some from far away and from America and it all smelled. I was able to get rid of the smell by just washing it.

Okay, so everyone is finally better, and I have finally completed the outfit I have been working on. I LOVE the way it turned out! Hopefully later AFTER bath time I can have her try it on and get some pics to post! I used Carla's simply sweet tops the halter version and pants! I am too far behind to catch up so I am going to start from here! I hope everyone is doing better!

TERESA AND HEATHER- How is your SIL? Any updates?

PRINCESSKELL- I hope things are going well!

Just wanted to let everyone know you are still in my thoughts and prayers!

Oh good! I'm in on the beginning before needing to play catch up :cool1: It will be short lived though as I am off to a dog show this weekend. Looking forward to seeing all the new creations when I get back! Have fun and happy sewing everybody!

Hey Calypso,

Nice looking Golden good luck at the show.. :thumbsup2

I just absolutely love everything you make! The way you match fabrics is beautiful!

2) She also sewed a book (scaps of fabric taped on notebook paper) of "monkey parts." These are from scraps of the drama queen monkey fabric. It is hysterical.
3) I hope you can find someone to watch your cat. I remember my parents would just leave our cats with extra food and a litter box when we went out of town, but it was only for the weekend. Yours probably needs extra care for your long trip! Good luck.
I would love to see the book!

I hope we find someone to watch Foster too! We've left other cats without anyone really watching them, just coming to feed and water them. But, Foster really really needs some human interaction, or he basically goes a bit nuts. Last year, we took him to a cat hotel, a nice little place with an outside porch for the cats and things for them to climb on. My parents picked him up when they got back from Florida and he was NOT happy! The people working there said he never got use to it, and hew there for 5 days. Not to mention it was rather pricey

I love it! I've seen similar looks on Arminda, Lydia and Tessa! I try not to tell them they look silly, but I might make a suggestion for something that might work out better. Sound like you handled it very well Steph! Sounds like the outfit was a boy magnet though!

Thanks for the warm welcome!!!! So far so good on my dress for my DD. I got the skirt done with the wedge stripwork pattern I found it the links posted at the beginning of the site. Kudos to the person responsible. It has been a wealth of great info!
We can't wait to see it!!!
Thank you! These are the only other photos I have on this computer, not great, but hopefully you will get the idea :) Obviously it would have been better with green tights, but we made do with the white capri leggings.

And I will just say I cannot believe how fast this thread grows! So glad I found it! :)

I think that is just a darling outfit!!! I really like it with the white leggins too!! And, I was going to tell you that your daughter looks like my niece Casey, but I see Heather did that allready! But, I was thinking it ever BEFORE she read it, so that means I DO rock! :cool2:
I would think it was cool if someone knew Tessa's name when we were out in public. But, I'm always with her, so I wouldn't have to worry about her taking off with someone because they know her name. I don't worry about pictures on the internet nearly as much as I worry about some sicko seeing my kid at school, at a store, or outside playing. Or, the most common scenario, someone we know.

That's my thought too. I have a BIL who is adament about not letting his kid's pictures be on the internet, but they he has no problem letting the local paper take their pictures and printing their full name and where they live below the pictures! :confused3

I assure you, this is the only place anyone would tell Teresa that she "rocks". :rotfl:
You have YOUR opinion, and my legions of fans has another! :snooty:

So, they had slept on a cold concrete floor for a week,
Are you sure they slept on the floor? If it's the kennel I think it was, they had their own bedding for the dogs to sleep on. Kenzie slept on a nice sheepskin rug type thing there. We never took our own blankets.

Your DD reminds me a lot of my niece, Casey. She's such a cutie! I love the Peter Pan outfit. I think it looks better with the capris than if you had put tights with it. I bet she got some attention wearing that costume since it's different!
I was thinking the same thing about her looking like Casey! She would so fit into our family!
BTW, it is snowing outside right now. :sad1: :sad2: :sad1: :sad2: I just want to go back to bed!
SOOOO wrong!!! Well, it's almost April, SURELY we won't get snow in April, right??:rotfl2:

You sew for your children will need clothes, and what you make them will be so much cuter than anything you can buy! And, it's fun! And, if you don't sew, I won't be able to play find the Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtle anymore!

Okay, so everyone is finally better, and I have finally completed the outfit I have been working on. I LOVE the way it turned out! PRINCESSKELL- I hope things are going well!

Just wanted to let everyone know you are still in my thoughts and prayers!

Barbara is keeping he spirits up. We all ate pizza at my Mom's house Friday, and she was quiet, but she is always quiet. She seems to be doing really well with this. She goes for an MRI next week. We pray that it hasn't spread. She still says she's going to Florida with us too! And, my brother seems to have accepted that she means it!

Something happened to my laptop yesterday! Corey defragged it, and when he went to restart it, Windows won't load. So, we are using Kubuntu (a Linux system) and I am HATING the browser that came with it! This message box keeps jumping around, and things keep getting copyed and pasted all over the place! I've been writing this reply for quite some time now!!! I've got a headache now, and feel like throwing the computer across the room!!! We need to fix Windows!

I just absolutely love everything you make! The way you match fabrics is beautiful!

Thank You!! You are so kind! I can't wait to see Violette's latest! I went to Hancocks and could not find that flowered fabric anywhere! :sad2:

I am glad to hear she is in good spirits, and I think it is great that she is still going with you guys! I am still praying for her and that the cancer hasn't spread! Please keep us updated! Well, I loaded the pics of my latest creation in photobucket, but I can not edit them so they are sideways!:headache: Hopefully it will work soon so I can post them!

Wow! I was gone over the weekend and I missed a bunch! I don't know if I'll catch up or not, but here's what I did over the last couple of days.........

Drew and I went to Chicago with my sister Kerry and her daughter Blayke to celebrate Blayke's b-day at the American Girl store. I didn't get any good pictures of the custom outfits that I made for them and their dolls. I am hoping Kerry has some better ones. I think my camera was on the wrong setting too because a bunch of my pics. are cloudy. I hate that!

The girls were so excited to get going.
chicago002.jpg

First we ate lunch at the cafe.
chicago004.jpg

chicago005.jpg

Blayke got a special cake. It was yummy!
chicago018.jpg

Drew had her heart set on Julie. She's the "historical" doll from the 70's:hippie: . I am not crazy about her and don't appreciate a doll that represents my age being called historic, but I warmed up to her after a while.
chicago021.jpg

The girls got serious about shopping!
chicago028.jpg

chicago024.jpg

chicago023.jpg

After they chose their stuff they stretched out and gave each thing some thought. They wanted to be sure before they made the purchase!
chicago026.jpg

We saw the show after they made their purchases and it was really cute. The girls seemed to really enjoy it.

We went back to the hotel and ordered room service and crashed! Those girls wore us out! They played with their dolls for a little before they both passed out.

We got up again Saturday morning and the girls got their picture taken and it got put on a magazine cover.

Here is Drew waiting in the photo studio.
chicago035-1.jpg

After their picture they got to pick out a couple of more things. It was a big decision!
chicago036.jpg

chicago039.jpg

We went to the ESPN zone and ate lunch after we finished up at AG.

Me with the girls.

Kerry with the girls.
chicago045.jpg

The girls played a couple of games in the game zone.
chicago053.jpg

Girls from Kansas and Iowa aren't used to seeing such tall buildings!
chicago033.jpg

We went back to the hotel (Allerton=great if you are in Chicago!) and got our stuff that they were holding and the mom's went to Ikea!
chicago057.jpg

We had a good trip. It was quick though. I am taking Riley back in a few weeks for a mommy daughter trip. She didn't want to go with the little girls! I am looking forward to going when it is warmer so we can really enjoy the city.

Oh my! What fun the American Girl store looks like! Guess it is the excitement in the kids faces! They could pass as twins at most angles too! And love the outfits!

ok, so I finished DD's dress and I am pretty pleased with how it came out. Here is my first attempt at photo posting. Hope I can get it to come out

I finally got my pics turned upright, so here is my latest! Sydni was all about posing!:rotfl:

MYTWOTINKS-Looks like you guys had a great time and the girls' were adorable in their customs!

mytwotinks: LOVE your AG store pics! I took Jayden there for her 9th birthday. We had so much fun! I might be taking her to the one in L.A. in June.

Here is what I have been up to: more boutique dresses. I'm sick of them. I need to do some headbands and more doll dresses, then I'm moving on to something else.
