Thanks for all the sweet coments on Emma's dress. I snapped a pic this morning before she went off to school. This is their last day before Easter break and they will have an Easter Chapel so I let her wear it. I must have had the wrong setting on the camera in my rush to snap a pic because it is really grainy! No pics of Noah - he has a handsome Easter outfit too but be is home sick for the third day.

I wasn't going to make DD an Easter dress, but when she saw this fabric in Joann's, she asked if I would make her one. Soooo...here it is. I will ruffle a pair of jeans to go with it since it is a little short. I think it is missing something. Should I put a long peasant dress under it with the ruffle peeking out? (and then maybe skip the jeans?) Would white look ok under it or should I go with a color? I only have tonight to sew it since we are going up north tomorrow morning. Any thoughts?

Teresa and Heather ~ I will be praying for your sister in law. That is very scary. Even more so when you have kids.

I love love love all of the new things! There is so much inspiration here. I have a few patchwork skirts started, but they have taken a position in my "to do " basket once I got to the gathering stage! I guess that Teresa and I have the same gathering allergy!

Scrapbooking ~ I put mine away 2 years ago and haven't touched it since. I think I was working on Drew's first week home, so I guess I'm about 6 1/2 years behind now! I don't have any excuses either. My sister is a creative memories consultant and she is always trying to get me to take a few days off (from being a mom!) and go to the lake with her for a scrapbooking weekend. The problem is I get down there and fall asleep in the hammok and I don't get anything done!

We did the Princesses on Ice show last night. The girls loved it! It was a lot of fun. Riley almost missed it. I kind of had to throw something together for her "special" outfit out of things we had around home. She is too grown up for a total custom, but she still wants mommy to make something for her too!

I had a tinkerbelle skirt in my car that Riley thought didn't fit right. I am so glad I hadn't returned it yet! I cut the tink off and put it on her jeans. These jeans have been "done up" for Halloween, Christmas, valentines and now tink! I just keep tearing it off and redecorating.

The girls took their AG dolls and dressed them up in their princess costumes with their ice skates! I thought that was pretty clever of them.

Well, I went to our Wal-Mart yesterday (it has been forever) and it is going to quit having the fabric department, so I loaded up on some clearance fabric.

Here is what I got for right around $25.00

In the bag is gold cording for Michael's Prince Charming costume, a yard of ribbon for some hair bows and 4 different colors of the tulle. I haven't worked with tulle yet but I figured for .49 cents a yard I would go ahead and get it. I guess I will just add it to my huge storage box that is full of material for future projects!

For those of you near Atlanta, this is from the Wal-Mart on Mansell Rd. in Alpharetta.

She had the flu for 4 days and her fever was finally gone yesterday for the first time since it started. I think a lavendar peasant dress would be cute under and than with some white tights. We love tights in our house. DD has just about every color they have and she mixes them with different colored outfits.

I've been away for awhile. My mom came down and visited for the last week. We had so much fun!!!!! I finally completed this monstrosity that I will NEVER make again!!! NEVER!!!! It was such a pain in the rump. The first few layers I had to gather by hand but the rest of the layers I did with a ruffler that I picked up at an estate sale for...........one whole dollar!!! I was beside myself!!! works great! Just needed a little bit of oil. Anyway, here's the pettiskirt. I really should have done it in the chiffon but I couldn't find any locally and I just used tulle. Don't mind the look on dd....she was in her pj's. LOL

I've got more projects that we've done this past week that I need to get pics of and post them too.

My mother sent this today, Megan's Easter dress. She embroidered the butterflies and ladybugs. It is so cute!

I know we are not supposed to be embarassed about their hair and stuff, but my five year old stamped her face and feet! What is she, 2? I was livid!

Jacob did not get an Easter outfit this year. He was most happy he got a book instead (I know Teresa and UMama will notice him reading in the background).

This is what I made from a storybook kit I got from . I am very peased with it. I even made a headband (without huge daisy) from Teresa's bookmarks. Thanks Teresa!

I really made this for me. Bambi was always my favorite Disney movie. I prefered the animal movies to the princesses so I am happy she let me make this for her. And it goes with her Bambi panties (Thursday, Heather).

Did ya'll spot the hidden Scrappy? I cracky myself up!

Both of these dresses are so cute. I love the butterflies and ladybugs on the dress. Tell your mom she did a great job. I also hate changing DD's bed. She has a ton of pillows and stuffed animals on her bed and she sleeps like that too.

Tessa LOVED all the birthday greetings. I was reading them to her and she would say "Are all of those smileys for me? Even the butterfly?" Thank you all for taking the time to tell her happy birthday and finding the special images and such! You're all so great!

OH MY GOSH!!! That is the sweetest thing EVER!!!! Tessa was VERY pleased with the picture!!!! She said "I am going to make Luke a LOVE card. Okay...WELL...I happen to be friends with a Cancer Research Scientist...I know random people in my life...

anyhow I just called him and when I told him what it was he immediately said "Oh, that's the good kind...if you are going to get a cancer, this is the type to get..."

Then he got all clinical and said:

In situ (noninvasive) breast cancer refers to cancer in which the cells have remained within their place of origin — they haven't spread to breast tissue around the duct or lobule. The most common type of noninvasive breast cancer is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is confined to the lining of the milk ducts. The abnormal cells haven't spread through the duct walls into surrounding breast tissue. With appropriate treatment, DCIS has an excellent prognosis.

SO...I hope this helps a bit. I know how scary it is to even HEAR cancer.

this kind of cancer.

I think what you are referring to is called "ductal carcinoma in situ." It is a very small tumor that hasn't broken out of the milk duct yet. I know because this is what I had. My doctor did what he called a lumpectomy and I call a chunkectomy! He took a wedge shaped piece from my breast. He was able to get the entire tumor with clear margins all around. They biopsied it and did other tests. Mine was "estrogen receptive."

I had radiation and took a drug called tamoxifen for 2 years. They also did a bone scan and other tests just to make sure it hadn't "escaped." It has been five years now and has not come back.

It is very scary while it is happening, but it sounds like you have a very good support system for her. It is manageable because it is in the very early stages!

I just asked my DH (he's a Medical Physicist in diagnostic radiology), and it sounds like she's diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ), which is considered a pre-cancerous condition. It is VERY treatable, and has a very high survivor rate and the prognosis for DCIS is usually very good. Anyway, here is a website that my dh showed me that explains DCIS...

When Heather and I went there a few weeks ago, she bought some Diego fabric, that had a big square cut out of the corner! They discounted that piece thank goodness. But, the last time I was there, there was a sign up on the cutting table that said that fabric was to be sold by the yard, not by the inch, and that they were NOT to cut squares out of the fabric for customers! I found that pretty funny.

So, does that mean they won't sell any less than a yard to people?

I was engaged to my "best boy" by the time I was two. (He called me his "best girl"...)Our mom's were best friends and we were born 6 months apart! We were deeply in love...he told his parents when we were four that he and I would be living in their home so mom and dad would have to move down the street.

We held hands everywhere we went, he opened car doors for me, helped me buckle my car seat and tied my shoes for me! He got VERY upset one day when he saw my sister HIT me! He told his mother to talk to my mother about it before he had to "step in"...we were about five then.

Alas...we hit 7 and everything changed. We were on the teeter totter at my house and he broke it to me that we couldn't get married. He said he couldn't marry me b/c he was going to be Magnum PI...

I cried my heart out. Went in and told my sister and his older brother. They made him say he'd marry me...and he did. Reluctantly!

I would just like to point out that even though he and I did not ever marry, he DID name his first daughter for me! He DID! We have the same middle name...even though his wife doesn't know where he got it, I sure do!

For those of you who made pajamas/night gowns for your kids, what kind of fabric do you use? Do you just use any cotton fabric, flannels....etc? My dd just requested that I make her some pajamas. Last night, after her bath time, she told my dh that she wanted some "dress pajamas". DH told her that she will have to talk to me, and maybe I will take her out shopping and buy her one! Immediately, she told him.."NO!!! Mama should make them, not buy them!!" LOL...I love that she wants me to sew for her!!!

I use flannel in the winter and 100 % cotton for summer pj's

My husband is an Occupational therapist and he has used weighted vests from time to time during his treatment sessions.

Occupational therapists sometimes use weighted vests as a technique to improve attention and sensory processing for students who have an autism spectrum disorder.

It sort of helps the kids to "know where their body is in space". It tends to have a calming effect.

he has also used techniques such as having a child suck a really thick milkshake through a straw!

It sounds odd but it helps attention and focus improve!

I have a question about sensory integration disorder, my son was diagnosed with this when he was 1 and he had therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Then they retested him and he was caught up in his milestones so no more therapy. But I don't understand did he outgrow the sensory problem. I notice him doing things that makes me think he may still have issues, like spinning around in circles. He also has terrible separation anxiety. He is 3 1/2 now.

Just thought I would share the latest outfits I made for my two kiddos for our September trip. They are pirate themed for Magic Kingdom


Then I made a Farbenmix Anna for overtop. I used minnie dot and pirate fabric and made it reversible because I like how neat the hem is when something is reversible.

For Camden, I made a set of shortalls in the pirate fabric, forget the pattern I used here. And I also made him a pirate bandanna hat from the boys hats pattern on YCMT. I had some trouble with that one, not a lot of pictures and a bit hard to understand at times plus I had to make a few alterations based on the amount of fabric I had, but all in all it's a good pattern, just not great like Carla's patterns are

Anyways, I am pretty happy with these, not my all time favorites or anything but I think they'll work well for the trip

Hi Everyone..thanks so much for your interest and ideas! I too am a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. Where I work, we use the weighted vests to give more input to the body to help it to know where it is in space. Also, in general, deep pressure like that has a calming affect. Think about the days when your tiny baby was upset and you swaddeled it tightly or how when you feel sick how you like to crawl under a nice heavy comforter or something - kind of the same idea. I also use it for children who need to work on strengthening - its something we can call our "adventure vest" and then do our activities like an obstacle course or something and it provides that weight that helps build up muscle. The weighted vests that are available like at Soutpaw Enterprizes are UGLY and even the smallest one always seems to big for the younger kiddo's. My supervisor said there must be a better solution out there than those $120 vests!!! I agreed, and knew exactly where to post my question!! It would be great to have one in a fun print for sure - then our "adventures" would be even more exciting!!! lol!!!

I wanted to ask you the same thing I asked Miss Cammie, do children outgrow Sensory Integration Disorder? What can I do for my son to help him if he needs help. We worked with Babies can't wait when he was younger. I think he would love a weighted vest.

Allright, here is a picture of a work in progress. This is going on the front of a tank-top for the daughter of a fellow dis'er. There is still loads of satin-stitching and hand embroidery that needs to be done. Mulan is holding an umbrella, but I still need to embroider the handle, and spokes. I also need to add the jade comb and flower to her hair. Her face will also be done by hand. Isn't she pretty so far though?

And here is a picture of the top I am working on for Edie. Not Disney, but pretty nonetheless. I think this is the Mod Girls fabric from Sis Boom.

I think I would add a peasant dress with long sleeves if it is cool on Easter. It is so early this year is won't be very warm out.

I kind of had to throw something together for her "special" outfit out of things we had around home. She is too grown up for a total custom, but she still wants mommy to make something for her too!

I had a tinkerbelle skirt in my car that Riley thought didn't fit right. I am so glad I hadn't returned it yet! I cut the tink off and put it on her jeans. These jeans have been "done up" for Halloween, Christmas, valentines and now tink! I just keep tearing it off and redecorating.

The girls took their AG dolls and dressed them up in their princess costumes with their ice skates! I thought that was pretty clever of them.

My mother sent this today, Megan's Easter dress. She embroidered the butterflies and ladybugs. It is so cute!

I know we are not supposed to be embarassed about their hair and stuff, but my five year old stamped her face and feet! What is she, 2? I was livid!

Jacob did not get an Easter outfit this year. He was most happy he got a book instead (I know Teresa and UMama will notice him reading in the background).

I really made this for me. Bambi was always my favorite Disney movie. I prefered the animal movies to the princesses so I am happy she let me make this for her. And it goes with her Bambi panties (Thursday, Heather).

Megan wet the bed last night so I have to go get her sheets out of the dryer and make up her bed. It is always a project because there are 50 stuffed animals on there.
