Disappointment with Online Booking (Non-Home Resort)

I know that the only way I could get a night at VGC for last Dec was to have a friend who owns there book it for me! Otherwise, waiting until my 7 month window was my only option. And I wouldn't have been able to get a reservation at that point!!!

Very disappointed that there has been no availability at the 7 month window. DVC obviously doesn't think it is a problem. They are adding onto the resorts at WDW.

I call shenanigans on "no" availability. There are 13 resorts with 120 different booking categories. 7 months away is Halloween, which is a Saturday and likely a very busy day at Disney. Yet there are 46 different booking categories at 8 resorts with availability (as of 3:40 p.m. EDT today). Sure, the Epcot resorts are completely booked during the popular Food & Wine Festival. Three of the Magic Kingdom resorts are sold out because it's Halloween. What what exactly were you expecting?

I believe the previous poster is also the original poster and they were trying to get into VGC

Last year, I stayed at VGC on my BWV points. This year, we're staying at BLT on my SSR points. Now, we ended up buying VGC because I loved it and wanted that to be a home, easy to book resort for us. Still CAN be done at the 7 month window if you have flexible travel dates.

I do think it will get harder, though, to book in California as they add Florida resorts--just more people trying at the 7 month mark. Makes for more variety in Florida, but more competition for the few California rooms available. So, rent or buy VGC points if that's where you want to stay.

The poster you quoted was looking for Oct 17-23 at VGC. All that availability at WDW is irrelevant.

In the 1 resort with 5 booking categories I see no more than two nights during her referenced dates in two of the categories and no availability in 3 of the categories at VGC.

I think calling shenanigans was a bit presumptive.

I too have to call shenanigans on this claim. Last year, I stayed at VGC on my BWV points. This year, we're staying at BLT on my SSR points. While I'm happy you got what you needed, I've been watching 7 month availability at VGC for about 3 weeks and it has been disappearing daily. Those three weeks correspond to the period the poster was looking for. I'm personally looking for mid November and have mostly lost hope, because of the trends I've been noticing. Not everyone's dates can be flexible. I understand it's not my home resort and I could have rented or looked for a transfer, but I have points I want to use. I will likely use them for a hotel room. Research I have done while waiting for my 7 month mark to arrive shows me that VGC is not easy to get. I'm glad for you that wasn't your experience, but it doesn't change the experience I've seen many others report.

I took the "shenanigans" off my own post, because you're right (actually was editing it while you were quoting me. Even this year, the dates I traveled were available after the 7 month mark. Late Aug/Early Sept seems to be lower demand for VGC, at least for the last 2 years. I KNEW I was lucky to get anything, though (and had to switch room categories to get 3 days in a row).

ETA: Just checked and Aug 31, Sept 1, 2 are all open for a 2 bedroom. Three days in a row right there. That's how I found space last year--picked the dates based on when there was availability.

Sorry, the poster didn't reference VGC in their message where they claimed "no" availability, so I missed it. Regardless, VGC has availability for the next seven days in almost every category beginning tomorrow. It might go quickly, but it will be available.

But that was his point. They went so quickly he was not able to get any of his dates and he was somewhat flexible (willing start his vaca on different dates). I did not read if he was only set on a studio or not. If it had to be a studio, than yes, I could see availability as an issue. I think he has a point- why does DVC keep adding on in FL when it is so hard to get in CA? I know there is a space issue- but the Simba lot feels like a great spot to me! It is frustrating and I hope the OP writes a letter to member services. Maybe if enough people do, they will build more in CA!

Exactly. The resort appears to be available but then isn't at 8:01.
