just back from a fab trip to Disney but was so disappointment with Vero Beach and I am now wondering if it was niavity on my part. there was us 4 and my elderly parents.

my son is quadraplegic and we had taken with us hoist, shower chair the lot. I had booked a 2 bedroom fully accessable room. we drove down at our leasure and checked in about 4 to discover the roll-in shower was in the studio part. like SSR the hoist wouldn't got under the bed so we pulled out the sofa bed like we did in SSR and honestly it was a disgrace . there was no way I would have slept in it never mind someone with a disability. Now I know these are sofabeds and arn't meant to be luxury but honestly they were awful. I was near to tears. what with the bed and the roll-in shower in the bit my parents were in we couldn't figure out what to do so we cut our losses re the money and checked out early and headed back up to SSR. was just so disapppointed as we were so looking forward to VB.

the question I never thought to ask all was does a hoist fit under the beds. I just assumed that like here they all would and also because it was a local orlando company that suppied the hoist it must fit somewhere. The sofa beds at SSR were great .

I'm just sorry you had a bad experience on part of your vacation. I've never been to Vero Beach but I'm glad that the Disney part worked out so well for you.

I have sometimes wondered (just from sleeping on sofa beds at relatives' houses) if getting one of those good inflatable beds (like a Aero bed) and putting it on top of the sofa bed mattress would make it more comfortable. I don't know if that would work in your son's situation but it is a thought. It does seem odd that the hoist wouldn't fit under the bed - what would a person do in a room that didn't have a sofabed?

thats what I was wondering as hoists surely can't be more used here in the UK than America I would have thought they would have been used / needed just as much. we had an inflatable theraputic mattress for him which goes over the bed / sofa bed matress but the problem was that there was no life left in the springs so basically it dipped in the middle so there was no support even if we had put something under I and he didn't feel it was safe as the bit supporting the springs at the bottom we so stretched they looked totally unsafe.

we have stayed here in Arran which is a spa type of place and we have never had a problem getting the hoist under any of their beds. I might email disney to find out for the future.

I can't believe the hoist doesn't fit under the bed either - seems odd that it would just work with a sofa bed. I can totally understand the bad condition of the sofa bed and why the inflatable wouldn't work.

Hopefully someone else can give you more info but I do think a call to Disney wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't have expected your situation either.
