If you're coming from a forward stateroom to eat on the pool deck, or vice versa, the midship elevators are less direct. The midship elevators also tend to be a lot slower, due to heavier traffic, than the forward elevators.

On the Dream class you couldn't be more incorrect about location. Midship elevators drop you right next to the Quick Serve and aft elevators spit you out smack in the middle of Cabanas. They're far more convenient and you don't get the stinkeye for being in the adult area with guests who don't belong there.

The ice cream, etc. pretty much back up to the midship elevator shafts. In fact, I'm willing to bet there's a service elevator for Cast Members in there on the same set of shafts.

It's simple, we prefer walking outdoors on deck over walking in a narrow hall dodging carts.

We're exactly opposite. We prefer dodging stationary carts to dodging children darting out in front of us in their excitement in the pool area. I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

While I agree (and have said as much) that those quietly walking through without stopping don't bother me...

A quick check of the deck plans on Scott's site do show that Ice Cream and the Pool Deck quick service ARE right at the midship elevators.

If you're coming from a forward cabin, where the forward elevators are nearby & faster than the more crowded midship ones, then yes, it is a time-suck to go wait for a mid-ship elevator. Also, people who stay forward and are accustomed to using those elevators can easily head to the family pool deck using the elevator's deck location listing, not even knowing that they're going to be passing through the adult area to get there. I'm sure (hope) you wouldn't expect that family to double back rather than walk quietly through.

So to recap what I and others have said in several posts:

• Passing directly through is not against the rules.
• Pool deck food & ice cream is forward, not aft, of the midship elevators.
• People of all ages are going to keep passing through the adult pool area, because it was placed in an awkward location.
• No one who doesn't suffer from child-triggered rage disorder should care about a child walking quickly and quietly past the pool to get to a different area.
• This is a Disney-created issue because they didn't adequately section off the adult area in their design, the way they sectioned off the concierge area.
• I hope they design the new ships to make the situation easier for everyone.
• Under 18 year-olds are not allowed to swim or lounge in the adult pool area, and CMs should do their jobs by enforcing that rule.

Most people don't like to read thread 1:1 poster squabbles, so I'm going to retire from this one.

I'm still confused how it's more out of the way to walk down the hall to the midship elevators than it is to go to the forward elevators and walk through the adult area outside to get to the pools. The ship dimensions don't change!

But that is not "out of the way". That is preference. There were other posters who said it was "out of the way" which makes no sense.

I do want to say that, for concierge cabins on deck 11, going through the adult area is the most direct route. Beyond that though, I agree with you. We've always traveled in forward cabins but opt to take midship or aft stairs then cross using all ages decks.

Yep we were a family that used the forward elevators even if it did cause us to walk through the adult areas. I only once saw a child stop in the adult area once, they stopped to see their father for different shoes and coverups. I see no problem with a child walking from the forward elevators and no I'm not taking the stairs with a bad hip/back nor am I walking further and waiting longer for the mid-ship elevators for the same reasons. Disney choose a poor design if they did not want children to walk through those areas. Also no need for a "free pass" as it is not really up to you if Disney chooses to let children walk through the area. Oh and my DD could pass for an adult, but I did not even consider her using the adult area as it is not designated for her use.

Wish I could, but climbing up 2 or 3 flights of stairs with my bad leg and foot is out of the question. I can do one flight very slowly at best (but only if I'm wearing my support brace)

However, the whole squabble about the elevators has me confused -- not sure why anyone has to explain why they prefer a certain set of elevators. We always stay aft and for the most part take aft elevators. I don't like dodging kids up on deck either, but would prefer to be outside with the views and fresh air then walking the length of the ship inside to get to the food or drink area. But again, that is my preference.

On the newer ships, we discovered that when you get on forward and have to walk aft, the hallways seem to never end. So we get off at guest services deck, walk after (which at least gives us windows and views) and then take aft elevators to our deck. We found it made that long haul easier to take.

We were between aft and mid, but somehow always ended up waiting for the mid elevators, even when I knew to go aft. I just kept getting turned around... even though I knew about the rugs facing forward. Maybe others get turned around and end up forward and going through the adult only section.

I get lost so easily on ships -- especially if I'm exploring and don't pay attention to which direction I came from. And I always forget about the rug patterns.

I'm pretty sure I'd find it more convenient to not wait through multiple carloads of people going up the midship elevator. I know I'd find it more convenient to not walk up four or five or six flights of stairs. So, yeah...sorry. Until there's a sign on the forward elevators telling me that my kid can't use them because one floor has a nearby service that is adults only, I'm still using them. He's not getting in the pool, he's not breaking the rules. He'd much rather be on the waterslide anyway.

This is an interesting topic, and one that I'll be watching out for on our upcoming/first Disney cruise. I've only read 2 of the 10 ( ) pages of replies, and while I catch up, here are my thoughts:

1. I'll be one of those parents who has his children find an alternate route. Teaching them that sometimes minor inconveniences are necessary in order to be considerate of others is a valuable lesson.
2. I have no problem with adults who take issue with under-18 guests being in the 18-only areas of the ship. The adults have fully paid for their cruise, which includes among its amenities 18-only facilities on a ship that is otherwise full of guests under 18.
3. Why can't DCL add KTTW card readers at the entrances to these areas, so that anyone under 18 can't access them? (With provisions for guests staying in the Deck 12 staterooms, who legitimately can't help it.)

Yup jumping in now to share additional perspective after staying in Dream concierge, as discussed the design of the ship sucks because if you get off in forward deck 11, that's adult only or you can walk down the stairs to the adult only section and scoot by, either way you have to be in the adult only section in order to get from concierge to the most popular deck on the ship.

We opted to take the outside stairs down and scoot by very quickly because we figured it was less time spent as a whole in the adult only section when it comes to surface area and steps spent being forced to walk in the Adults only area. We never lingered and did it quickly so as to show we were attempting to be respectful of the guests but you're kind of held hostage by the design of the ship.

All other topics in general I agree with - no kids in Adults only section beyond that

I would prefer the quiet kids to that man, that's for sure. He was loud the entire time we were there. Not saying anything bad, just very, very, loud.

The CM came and told him (and the Captain came along shortly after and said the same thing) that children can walk through but must not remain. I've heard it on other ships, too.

And for those that don't know the layout it would take a wopping 30 sec to a minute to walk through from the forward elevators to the family area. Why get so worked up for a minute it's not like it is a 20 minute stroll.
