Disappointed!

I feel like the best solution on the new ships would be to place the Adults only area where Vibe is on the Dream class... that way it is secluded and nobody will ever find it :P

Totally unrelated... but the bathrooms in Vibe on the dream class are HUGE (like the largest on the ship) and have lockers

Yes, it's frustrating that you can't get to the Concierge level rooms without walking through the adult pool area! But as for the nightclub area, I remember there being some family games in the evening hours, but in 9 Disney cruises, I've never seen a child in an adult area after the 9pm curfew. I will say that CMs are put in a difficult position, because there are always those passengers who will lodge a complaint against the crew member for doing their job. When we were on the Magic in Norway at the Frozen deck party, there were some tweens that were jumping back and forth over the railing that I was leaning on. One of the cruise staff politely asked the boys to stop and they ignored him. This isn't unique to Disney, I've been told horror stories by crew members on other lines about how they tried to stop a child from doing something dangerous, only to have a complaint lodged against them!

I can honestly say that in all my cruises I've only seen one child in the nightclub area (unless passing through on the way to the elevators) after 9 pm, and that was handled quickly and discreetly by the CM who was bartending in Skyline. They walked over to the gentleman who had his son with him (the boy looked to be about 9 or 10) and very quietly told them that, since it was after 9, the bar was for adults only. The father was very polite, explained he didn't realize that, and left. It was handled very, very well.

Just curious. .. what are the lockers for? I'm trying to convince my 14 yr old daughter how awesome Vibe is going to be. .. I've showed her some pix. :offtopic: but if anyone knows any good links i can read up on re:Vibe I'd love to know. I've read the info on here (the Dis sections on DCL) and on the DCL website but haven't been able to find anything more than pix and descriptions. We've read Navigators but can't figure out what some of the activities are. Sorry I'm off topic.

My family and I just returned from a cruise on the Disney Fantasy, March 25-April 1, 2017. We splurged on this Disney cruise because all it had to offer for our girls, ages 11 and 16. Prior to booking, I read up on the adult only areas and dining so that my husband and I could have some time to relax. In my reading, I was excited to lean of the adult only areas and how well they were marked and monitored. However, this was not the case. There were children all over the adult only areas- walking through, staying and participating in the adult only games, etc., and parents allowing this. Without my knowledge, my husband booked a placeholder for a future Disney cruise. I am seriously considering cancelling it and placing it towards a cruise with another line.

I really think that sometimes the CMs don't want to tick off passengers who have paid good money for their cruise. I have seen this happen with kids in diapers in the little pool, with chair hogs, and once when a kid was swinging a sword in atrium during a show almost hitting several other kids. In that particular case, several parents even spoke to the CM who chose to ignore it. But certainly you should speak up!

after staying in Dream concierge, as discussed the design of the ship sucks because if you get off in forward deck 11, that's adult only

Yes, it's frustrating that you can't get to the Concierge level rooms without walking through the adult pool area!

Only guests actually staying on 11 are essentially forced into the adult area. Deck 12, where most concierge cabins are located, runs all the way across and does not touch the adult area.

I can't remember, have we discussed the absurdity of the funnel puddle overlooking the adult pool? Talk about stacking bad design decisions.

The lockers are for the "splash pad" with pools. It's nice because the teens input a code and can store everything (including their KTTWC) while outside. There's almost always video games on, and usually a movie. There is also smoothies and milkshakes made to order. Most of the activities are similar to those of Edge, but for the most part activities are unorganized and the teens chill and travel the ship.

The funnel puddle family area is where DD sat to read. Shaded and she could hop in to cool off if needed or watch the ocean. Hardly anyone used that area.

I have always wondered whose genius idea that was.

I'll tell you what I DID like in the adult section; overlooking the Vibe pool. When my DS was there, he didn't know mom was able to spy on him. ;)

Just kidding.... I didn't really want to stand at the front rail to spy on the Vibe pool... for long.

The health club I belong to has a sign on the door "no children of opposite sex". They have a large family locker room for that purpose. Everyday I see at least one little boy sometimes as old as 5 in the women's locker room. As a mother of two boys I would not have taken my preschooler or Kindergartner into a locker room full of naked women. The kids may or may not be oblivious, but I think it's really awkward for women who feel odd undressing in front of someone else's kid. I really hope the same thing doesn't go on in the men's locker because that seems really creepy to me. I would hate to think of a little girl being in a room full of naked men. There's also a sign that says not to use cell phones. Of course that's because of privacy. Nobody adheres to that either. Then you have naked kids...cell phones...creepy people...you see where I'm going with this.

I don't know if people just don't read the signs or they just ignore them. It's a mystery to me.

Like I said in previous post I totally understand it on Disney ships. The design is bad.

My kids think if they walk through the adult area security will be called. They don't do it. My kids aren't perfect. I've called security on them when they've missed curfew. It traumatized them so much they always follow the rules. I highly suggest doing this if your teens aren't in on time. Disney security is really nice. Your kids don't need to know this though.:ssst:

Ok so I thought that was weird too but we ended up using it from time to time because it allowed kids and it was close to our room. Technically you are correct that you could walk past the funnel puddle section and walk down those stairs to the main section of deck 11, however that section was often roped off - maybe it was just our situation but at least 3 different times there were barriers set up to either get past the walk way or down the stairs, sometimes they would stack the chairs in front of the walk way or rope off the stair way, I don't know why they did but we tried and often had to turn back and use the stairs near the adult area....

but back to the funnel puddle thing, it is odd, it felt like the adult area vibe because it's so quiet and almost feels like you're in the adult only area because you're looking right over it... I often wondered if we were supposed to be there due to the close proximity of the adult section but figuring it's a puddle pool and seeing other kids I figured it was ok... it was nice and quiet but wondered if annoyed the guests hanging out in the adult only section because the kids are like right there

BTW we saw about an 11 year old with his dad in the gym. I wondered if Dad knew kid was not supposed to be there or what. CM didn't say anything and the kid was allowed to stay. It was during a relatively non crowded time but I noticed it. One kid doesn't annoy me but if I walked into that gym with 10 ten year olds I'd be really annoyed.

Ultimately, the CMs are between a rock and a hard place, without any real authority to enforce rules, yet being at the mercy of guest reviews/complaints lodged against them for dutifully trying to enforce rules.

Perhaps CMs should keep a log of such guest interactions, a) as a means of defense against a specious complaint, and b) as a means to track the level of guest disregard for rules, necessitating CM intervention.

Which is why I have stated previously I think when we DO see a CM enforcing the rules we should make it a point to go to Guest Services and lodge a COMPLIMENT to counteract any complaint. Maybe if the CMs see that they ARE appreciated for enforcing things they will be more likely to do it and feel more empowered to do it.

It is a good suggestion. I'll keep an eye out for those opportunities, both to thank the CM directly, and to provide feedback.
