Disappointed!

What happened when people (no doubt of all ages) went to get desserts and there were none???
Everyone went running to Cabanas only to find out that there were no desserts with puzzled CM standing there. They eventually told people to go to the party in the adults only area to get desserts but not before every entertainment CM that was working the Frozen Deck Party disappeared causing more confusion

If they really wanted that for the spot where the elevator puts you out into the adult area, they would put signs on each floor at that elevator bank, on the elevators, and immediately as you get off of the elevators

EXACTLY. We booked two *very* forward rooms and of course the entire cruise we took the forward elevators in addition to walking up/down the forward stairways no matter our destination, so it was only natural that we used this route to go up to the pool deck as well! I must admit, the first time I saw the "adults only" sign in the pool area, I froze in my tracks and was confused (bc I knew that was from whence we came). My kids and I quickly scurried through, but unfortunately we kept making the same mistake, realizing too late. No, i didn't even consider turning around and using the midship route. That would have just been a silly waste of time.

"Wrong Thread" :rolleyes1 ... although appropriate.

:scratchin Maybe you already have posted on the other thread:
  1. Ever see anything totally shocking and unexpected on a cruise?

OMG you have no idea how much you ruined my evening last night with this post! lmao I got NOTHING done. Cause I was stuck reading that thread! I got to page 15 (ish) and then there was a link to a youtube video. THEN I got pulled into the dark scary side of facebook where people treat dolls like real babies talking about their bedtime routine and even going so far as to give the dolls poopy diapers! LMAO THEN I WATCHED A LIVE BIRTH OF A DOLL! (Hilarious by the way...it was incased in a "womb" and had an umbilical cord that kept falling out and the "dr" kept shoving it back in!)

No need to restate the obvious here but I'll bite, this is a DISNEY cruise with LOTS of kids. If you want something where there is much less opportunity for kids to spoil your adult fun then pick an adult oriented cruise line. I'm wondering why did you pick DCL in the first place? Likely because you knew it would be awesome for your kids? The crew does the best they can to keep adult areas "off limits" but it would be almost impossible to fully enforce a STRICT "get out of here kid" policy. IMO this is like buying a home in near an airport then complaining about the noise after you move in.

So, can I ask a question about this that has been worrying me about our upcoming cruise? I have a daughter who is 23 and disabled. Because of a full spinal fusion at 12, she stopped growing, and on a good day she can pass for about 13; she looks very, very young. She is also fully dependent on a caregiver. I had every intention of bringing her into the adults only areas, including a Palo brunch. Do you think this would be a problem? Will people be upset but too polite to say something? It really has been a concern of mine, so I would welcome the input.

You have enough to worry about, other people's opinions on the cruise should not be one of them. Your 23 y/o daughter has every right to use the adult facilities as anyone else on the cruise. Just stick your tongue out at anyone that says something.

At least with Palo since she is there it is clear she is an adult. They don't let kids in. Heck I haven't ever seen them even let a kid in just to tell mom or dad something they go get the parents and make them come to the podium.

In other areas just have her card ready. If anyone says anything to you just let them know she is in fact an adult and if a CM asks they'll ask to see her card and then they won't bother her and if anyone says anything while that CM is on shift they'll just let them know they have already checked and that your daughter is an adult. Just be aware that CMs may ask to see her card but they are usually very polite about it.

:) Thank you for that. It's true, we certainly have enough to worry about, but I think it's in the DNA of special needs parents to both advocate for their children and to worry about the impact on others. Having said that, I'll have my tongue at the ready :D

You are correct in that I booked the Disney cruise mainly for my kids. We have actually cruised with Disney before and the adult only areas were actually monitored very well. My fun was not "spoiled" by this, as we did do a lot of activities as a family, by just not as relaxing as it could have been when I was away from my children. I guess I expected too much of other parents/ cruisers- actually respecting the "reserved for guests over 18" signs and areas.

I can't speak for OP but here goes as an adult who sails with DCL both with and without children. As a matter of fact, my next two cruises are sans teen. We sail DCL because we enjoy the product for both adults AND children.

1) I expect children in their areas. This is most of the ship and if I crash the Vibe or Edge I would be expected to leave...not that I could crash since they are card controlled, but hypothetically.

2) I expect parents to parent which includes respecting the rights of others, following the rules and reading signs-aka situational awareness.

If this doesn't happen, such as the time there was a 6 year old gleefully playing in the Rainforest Room, you can bet that I will be The One to report it to staff and expect a resolution. Sometimes age limits (either way) are for safety, sometimes they are for liability, sometimes they are just the way it is. If you go into an adults only area and expect there to be no children, I don't understand how that's the adults' fault if they are displeased that there are children.

I disagree with your analogy. To me, it's like disregarding the airport's posted signs that say "no trespassing," walking near the runway and complaining about the noise.

Exactly my point! Thanks Tink1970

My family and I just returned from a cruise on the Disney Fantasy, March 25-April 1, 2017. We splurged on this Disney cruise because all it had to offer for our girls, ages 11 and 16. Prior to booking, I read up on the adult only areas and dining so that my husband and I could have some time to relax. In my reading, I was excited to lean of the adult only areas and how well they were marked and monitored. However, this was not the case. There were children all over the adult only areas- walking through, staying and participating in the adult only games, etc., and parents allowing this. Without my knowledge, my husband booked a placeholder for a future Disney cruise. I am seriously considering cancelling it and placing it towards a cruise with another line.
Children can walk through. Did you not speak to a cast member?

It's not just for kids. It's for adults just as much. In an adult only area. I would have told someone or said something directly.

As I previously stated, we did speak to a CM when the children were "hanging out" and they told us they could stay, just not participate in the adult only trivia, and another time they did nothing. I didn't say anything when they were walking through an adult only area, however I do find that just as bad. I made it a point on our first day of the cruise to take my girls around the ship and made sure they knew they were not to be in the adults only area even just to walk through.

Yeah, after reading this thread, I'll agree with you. The OP has a good point in that people should be more courteous. But if I want a really relaxing, child free environment, I sure wouldn't take a Disney cruise or any other cruise that caters to families. Nor do I stay at family friendly hotels if I want a child free hot tub. The reality is that yes, hot tubs are restricted to adults in every hotel I've stayed in, but people break that rule all the time in chain hotels that cater to families. And staff in either case do not want to be the bad guys or have better things to do with their time than enforce that rule.

If a kid or adult was being disruptive, or doing something dangerous, I'd complain. But complaining to the CM that someone's kid is in the "adult's only coffee shop" or passing through the pool area WITH their parent...those poor CMs. I wouldn't want to deal with tattle tales all day at my job!

Then there is me. I'm not looking for a child free vacation, but I would love some adult time while on a family vacation. DCL is supposed to give me that because that is part of what I paid for. I am a SAHM, so that adult time is rare and precious to me. I don't want to have to discipline other people and their children to get the adult only time I actually kind of need. If CMs were more consistent with keeping to the rules, there would be less instances of rule breakers.
