I guess I am the oddball out there then because I will say something to other people's kids or adults about flaunting the rules. In fact, on our last cruise on the Fantasy on two separate occasions I had to ask some adults to lower their voices in the Rainforest Room. Disney sells that place as a serene getaway, so very loud conversation and raucous laughter are at least a violation of the spirit of the rules and prevent others from enjoying the place as advertised. In fact, I doubt I'll ever do another length of cruise pass there for that very reason.

That's exactly the kind of situation I hate. You don't want to have to say something to her (or the CM) because you don't want to be perceived as a jerk, but the adult with their child there is really the one being the jerk. There are tons of other places she could enjoy her coffee with her child by her side. Why stay in one of the few places where you are not supposed to?

Maybe its just me but I don't have any problem saying something to people in general if in that type of situation. But im generally outspoken as well. I wouldn't have a problem looking over at that lady and saying "you do realize this place is for 18+ right?" and if I got ignored I would find a CM and ask that they tell the lady to leave. But thats just me. I don't find it being a jerk asking someone else to follow the rules. When I make a huge purchase like a Disney Cruise and part of that purchase is advertised as "adult only areas" I expect that to be followed. I expect to get what I purchased. Now don't misconstrue that into me saying that "I paid for the cruise I can do what I want." I know that is an issue as well and thats not what im saying.

our son came back to the room one night and said he'd accidentally walked too far and was in the adults only hall on the ship and right about the time he realized and was about to turn around, a CM approached him and politely told him it was an adult only area and he needed to leave. He made sure we knew that they "politely" asked him to leave and that he wasn't yelled at or "in trouble".....so yes, it can be done and a CM shouldn't be afraid to ask politely.

I know, right?! It was particularly annoying because one of our two young kids had to be coerced to go to the kids club and it had been a real effort for us. And then we had also told our teen he would have to go do something else. There were other drawing sessions that were not adult only but this one was. Of course the kids who did stay in the adult activity were not quiet but instead kept running up to get new pencils and talking and after the cm pointed out that it was an adult only session and parents with kids just ignored him, he was like ooo-kay and rolled his eyes like he was just completely over it. The entire experience had a real negative feel. I am like a deer in the headlights in this type of situation. I would never think of consciously bringing any of my kids (even the obedient one!) to an adult event or area. I cannot understand why people do it. I do not understand why so many people commenting seem to have such anger about those rules. To me it is simple.

My daughter was always a mature age -- a mature 15, a mature 16 and so on. She would have thrived in the adult areas and on Serenity Bay and was desperate to try Palo -- and no one would have even known she wasn't 18. When she finally did turn 18, it was glorious to take her to the adult pool and the adult beach and (finally) Palo. But until she was 18, we didn't take her to any adult events or areas and didn't throw a mommy/daughter tantrum because I wanted her there! Rules are rules. I'm sure some of those people would throw the chair saving rule in someone's face, but only because that particular rule suits them.

One of my all time favorite memories with my daughter was through the Panama Canal. Her dad was running around the ship taking pictures and my DD and I were lounging in the adult pool watching the scenary go by. It was glorious.

Oh, I hate going to movies for that very reason. 50% of the time we get a group of women who are having some sort of get together and choose the theater to talk and catch up. And they DO NOT talk low or even in a whisper. I have had to tell them more than once that if they want to have a chit chat, go out to the coffee shop or give me my ticket money back because I didn't pay to listen to them! They always shut up, but it really shouldn't get that far.

If I'm in a general area of the ship, I watch my language and sense of humor. But in the adult areas, I feel like if I use a swear word or make a bawdy joke it's no big deal. I would assume that other folks feel this way. I would think that letting my kids hang out in the adult area would put others in a position of having to put their guard back up and that would not be considerate.

On our last cruise I was talking to a crew member right outside of Cove Cafe and we saw 2 children with their parents, ignoring the rules. I made a comment, the CM seemed to just think it was funny. I said to the CM "do you want me to go say something to them" he finally went over and ran them off. This happens way too often. Maybe someday after several drinks I'll see if I can get into the teen club, just to hang out, it only seems fair.

I said to the CM "do you want me to go say something to them" he finally went over and ran them off. This happens way too often. Maybe someday after several drinks I'll see if I can get into the teen club, just to hang out, it only seems fair.

It's funny you mention that... I told my 16 yo that their club Vibe was monitored better than the adult only areas. They had to badge in or go thru a CM to get in!

I really had no idea that allowing my kids to walk through the Cove area was such a big problem! I prepped them ahead of time that they weren't allowed to even talk while we were there and that they had to be silent and keep moving. We were very respectful of the peaceful environment that I assumed the adults only area is trying to achieve. We stayed far forward and the mid ship elevators and stairs were often very busy, so that's why we used the forward area.

Is it really an issue to SEE a child walk by?

I am totally on board with wanting to keep quiet, restful places free of kids. If I manage a break from my kids, I don't want to listen to anyone else's. But the sight of a well behaved kid walking by isn't going to ruin any relaxation for me.

We never saw kids in any of the bars, cove pool or satellite falls area.

I don't think it is an issue at all for a kid to cut through if they need to or come in to grab their parent. I think the issue was with them pulling up a chair and hanging out for a while.

Unfortunately on the first Baltic Cruise of 2015, they were encouraging kids to go into the adult's only area. They accidentally announced that there was Frozen Desert Buffet (there wasn't) and told children to go into the adults area (mind you this was 9ish) to get desserts

Totally. This mainly happens to me and DS (once) and DH (for about 5 out of 7 days) on Royal ships when it comes to the smoking side of the pool deck. I'm not actually sure we've ever been through the spot on Dream where an elevator plunks you out into the adult area. But it sure does happen with the smoking side on Royal for us...

It is poor design on DCLs part but I don't feel that we should be penelized for the floor we choose to stay on.

Do you have any info you can share about the kids activities on the Royal Caribbean and Princess ships?

Until he hit Teen Club age (which is 12 on Royal ships) my son liked the kid clubs MORE than on DCL. Much more personalized attention, which my only-child, homeschooled, dances-at-the-Y (where he has small dance classes and interacts with many older people), extroverted kid likes.

If they don't want anyone under 18, the signs should clearly state adult entry only or adults only beyond this point.

If they really wanted that for the spot where the elevator puts you out into the adult area, they would put signs on each floor at that elevator bank, on the elevators, and immediately as you get off of the elevators.
