Disappointed!

I will say that at least on the Magic in February, I did witness a beverage server approach two girls in the Adult Pool area to ask for their KTTW cards as they did look borderline. One did not have hers, and after a brief quiet word from the server they quietly gathered their stuff and left. No fuss was made - and I did not see if anyone had said anything to the server or if he asked on his own accord. But I was happy to see that it was being enforced there.

I do so hope you wrote these comments on your comment card OR have emailed once you've returned. While it may change nothing, at least you'll let DCL know (and maybe feel better?). I had an issue once when staying at AKL and emailed after we returned and received a lovely phone call from a CM (I'm not promising that will happen, obviously but it was nice).

Here's the email I'd use...was just posted on another thread: dcl.guest.communications@disneycruise.com

I did leave it on the comment card, as well as sent an email as soon as we disembarked. I might try the email you listed. Thanks!

Just as a kinda side note, nothing prevents families with kids from walking down the hall to midship elevators to go up. You're still walking the same distance. Concierge is the only group I can give a slight pass to walking through because they would have to go to another deck. (I have seen a family that did that though. Respected the heck out of those parents.)
Yeah, except when you forget what side of the ship you are on and walk out and realize it. But sure, go down, walk around and then back up so special people can have their space. I actually have my kids do this (go down and around when they mistakenly come up the wrong side) because of really crappy comments from people in the adult pool area. Just for walking through a pool area. I even seen a lady rip an 8-year old girl (not my kid) in the coffee shop right inside the adult area. That gave me a nice warm fuzzy about being on a Disney cruise. But I'm sure it was justified.

Most of the venues are free for anyone during the day. When they are adult only, they will usually clear out kids. I've seen this happen. They aren't always great identifying the events as adult-only though. On tastings and such, it is clearly marked. Other thing not so much. But definitely keep your kids away from the adult pool area. It is not a nice place for them and they likely will pick up some new "non-Disney" phrases.

I will say that we have walked through the adult pool area many times with our son. We stay on the 12th floor and Im sorry but Im not going to go to another set of stairs to go down and around to get to our room. We are quiet and walk right through. Our son knows that the area is for adults so he just walks through quietly.
It is poor design on DCLs part but I don't feel that we should be penelized for the floor we choose to stay on.
I can understand if children are lingering, being loud or disrespectful and agree that would be completely annoying and I myself would say something.

My family and I just returned from a cruise on the Disney Fantasy, March 25-April 1, 2017. We splurged on this Disney cruise because all it had to offer for our girls, ages 11 and 16. Prior to booking, I read up on the adult only areas and dining so that my husband and I could have some time to relax. In my reading, I was excited to lean of the adult only areas and how well they were marked and monitored. However, this was not the case. There were children all over the adult only areas- walking through, staying and participating in the adult only games, etc., and parents allowing this. Without my knowledge, my husband booked a placeholder for a future Disney cruise. I am seriously considering cancelling it and placing it towards a cruise with another line.

Sorry, we have forgotten our DIS boards manners.

:welcome:

I don't care if you walk through with your kids but it is an adults only area so if they hear some "non-Disney" phrases as you put it, it is 't the adults fault. The area is marked as for guest 18 and older so it is a risk you take walking through.

We were on the Fantasy and the adult only areas were supposed to the adult pools, then The deck (12 Forward)with The Currents bar, Meridian 12 aft, and O'Gills unless there was an activity going on. I did say something during our 18+ Trivia in O'G

Yes, this is my first post on here as I left my 16 yo daughter post on behalf of the family prior to the cruise. My husband and I were proactive and did tell crew members when we were in adult only areas/ activities and they did nothing. In the activities they stated that those under 18 were not allowed to participate, but of course they did. Not bashing Disney, as for the most part the cruise was great- service, food, activities. Just saying for the amount spent on this vacation, I wish the rules were enforced by the CM and those other parents. Like others have stated, I required my children to go up or down a floor to avoid adult only areas, as it is not that much longer of a distance.
What adult only activities were the children participating in?

This is why we move to the satellite falls area now. No kids cutting through.

We've stayed on 12 and we get to our rooms via 12. Go up the midship stairs to the upper deck including the funnel puddle and you are right at the entrance to the lounge. The next adult area is deck 13 forward. JMO, for 12 it's especially easy to avoid taking kids in the adult area.

A couple of years ago when I was on the Fantasy, there were a couple of adult-only craft sessions in the pub and at least at the first one, there was a mother who insisted that her little one "just HAS to make coasters" and "it's our mommy-daughter time" and while the CMs did ask if anyone minded, no one seemed to want to be "the bad guy". I positioned myself as far away as possible and left pretty quickly - and didn't bother with a lot of the other adult-only daytime activities.
I think it's very bad etiquette for CMs not to enforce the rules and asks others to be the bad guy.

It is no wonder that CMs aren't more forceful when addressing the issue. They are not security guards, and i'm not sure if anyone has personally experienced the entitlement that people feel on Disney vacations (we paid this much $, so we can do what we want), but I have. And, I certainly don't blame a non-managerial employee from NOT getting confrontational....it must be a nightmare. Just one example, I was in Animal Kingdom, alone with a baby strapped to me, and another one in the stroller...and not ONE PERSON would let me thru a door. I was trying to be polite, but I merely needed to go 3feet without, people cutting me off, and this never happened until another guest intervened. She looked at me, said, "honey, I got this" and then loudly stopped the crowds so I could get thru. I almost cried out of gratitude. Remember, these CMs are dealing with people all day acting this way, with not much pay, and they do not want to be the one on the comment card that offended so and so's child. I would suggest escalating to management or guest services if there is really a re-occurring issue (and there must have been to ruin OPs 7 day cruise)

Yeah, they deserve it. Hey, kid on a Disney cruise, you deserve to be called names for walking (not stopping) through an area next to an elevator. Because nothing ruins my cruise more than a kid walking past me on the way to the ice cream machine, on a Disney cruise. Like I said, I tell my kids to walk around if they accidentally come out on that side of the ship. I wouldn't want them acting like the adults on a Disney cruise. The next thing you know, kids will be reserving entire rows in the theater, sneaking fruit from the buffet off the ship and carrying a glass of wine into the kids club during pickup.

So the kids being in the adult area was the only bad thing and enough to cause you to search out another cruise line? What part of the adult deck did this happen? I remember on the Fantasy that the 'upper' portion of the deck forward, you'd never see a kid up there, but then in that Cove pool area because of the pass through aspect it was not unusual to see them in that part. The deck 13 forward is pretty big though and you wouldn't run into any kids there.

Well, in fairness, once you pass the sign that identifies the adult area, you are in fact in the adult area. There is no "Oh, you're 'just inside' so it's ok." And Cove Cafe is DEFINITELY an Adult-Only venue.

So no. An 8-year old should NOT have been in there.

Hmm, we were on the same Fantasy cruise (3/25 - 4/1) and didn't notice kids lingering in the forward Cove area at all. We spent A LOT (too much) time at the Cove Bar and didn't notice any issues. They'd stroll through now and again, but never lingered.

Shout out to Carlos and Vlada at the Cove Bar!
