We just experinced a dissapointment when using our Disney Points for a Disney Cruise. We tried to book the first day we were elgible but already the cruise was sold out. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I guess we try to go II and go for Cancun or Hawaii. The family was really looking forward to this cruise.

Is the cruise sold out if you were to pay cash? You could rent your points and use that money to pay for the cruise and have some spending money leftover. There are many threads on the topic of points vs cash for cruises and most people opt to go with the cash. If you are serious about renting points you will have no problems finding someone who wants them. Check out the rent/trade forum.

Just a thought, you should look into it.

I agree with Lori -- especially if you were really set on this date.

They did you a favor. Rent the points and book the cruise for cash. You'll use less points and/or have spending money left over. You can always reserve now with a refundable deposit. Was it by chance one of the special cruises like Xmas this year? Since you can book 11 months out, I can't imagine next Feb being sold out. If it was Feb or late Jan, I'd try again if your set on that option. You can also call DCL directly to get a feel for how full the cruise you want really is. DCL only gives DVC a limited number of bookings which has been quoted to be a max of 10%, just like FF miles tickets and the like.

What month were you trying to book a cruise for? Points were not out for 2006 as of last Thursday. No cruises can yet be booked for 2006 unless by chance points came out for 2006 on Friday.

If you tried to book a cruise for 2005, those points have been out since last late winter or early spring and you could have booked eleven months in advance of the cruise date. Even if you were looking at December 2005, those cruises could have been booked in January 2006 and may have sold out to points very quickly.

Thanks for the info about renting our points. I was trying the December 17 Western and it is sold out for cash now also. It just kind of surprised me that it would be sold out 11 months before sailing and its in value season he Looking back I should have been more aggressive and rented points - but who'd of figured.

Even though the points are not out, in the past they allowed people to make reservations for the next year. The only caveat was they were committed even if the cost in points went up. I'm not sure if they're still doing this or not.
