My DD got her yearbook today (elementary school). It was disappointing to find out that her picture is not there with her class. Not even on the list of not pictured.:confused3 She did start at another school at the beginning of the year, but she was there for the fall pictures so I don't get why she is not there. She is in a random pic at the bottom of the page (where they just snap a pic of kids). If I would have known she wasn't even in the yearbook (or even her name) I would not have purchased it. I mean $25 & she's not even there. I feel so bad for her, she just lost the election for SCA & now this the next day.:sad1:

We did notice how in the random pics throughout the yearbook (mainly in front & back) that there are numerous pics of the same kids, over & over. I hate when there is a bias year. Anyway, I'm just complaining. Thank goodness she's not a depressed kind of kid.

That sucks. My school's yearbook is so disorganized. I found alot of mistakes. It and it still wins all of these awards

In my kids' elementary schools the "random" photos included in the yearbook were frm PTO moms who volunteered to take the pictures, so their kids and kids friends are always in the pictures much more frequently. I never really worried about it because I didn't want to volunteer to do tht the pictures.

1. Elementary school yearbooks are generally put together by parents who are given no resources or direction. Pictures come from the parents that volunteer in the classroom and pass along the photos. If you don't like the make up of the photos, I am sure the PTA or school would love someone to take on the job of coming to various events for the purpose of getting a good representation of kids!

2. Did you sign the release that allows your child to be identified by photo and/or name in school publications and promotional material? If you didn't give the school to identify your child, then they were required to pull your child's photo from the book.

Sorry you were disappointed!

Our yearbook left out the modified track team photo. The yearbookadvisor is also the modified track coach.:rotfl:

My dd just finished her junior year of high school. She is a varsity tennis player. The yearbook included the team picture, but omitted the 2 page spread that is normally included for each athletic team. I guess it was done, but accidentally omitted during a revision.

The yearbook advisor did apologize profusely.

This!!

when my kids were in elementary school, I was "volunteered" for the school year book. I kept screaming that I had no experience whatsoever. didn't matter.

Hugs to your daughter.

Relative to the bias comment only:
Our PTA is ALWAYS e-mailing asking for photos for the candids for the yearbook, 5th grade promotion, etc.

If I don't provide any that have DD in them, I'm never surprised or frustrated if she doesn't show up in the photos.

My DD must not hang out with any of the active PTA parents' kids while at school because she's rarely in the photos! And we haven't participated in some of the school activities in the last year or so, just due to her lack of interest or our lack of time, so I didn't really have any photos to share this year. So she's not in her yearbook other than the regular headshot or club photos.

That's too bad. But you have other pictures of her. What she'll care about years from now is remembering the other people in her class and will be glad for the yearbook. My kids are in college and high school and love looking up old friends in their elementary yearbooks to see how kids have changed.

Hmm, don't know if this will help with your disappointment, but I throw together a little family yearbook every year. I have it printed and bound at a place like Costco or various online printers, keep a copy for us and give a copy to the great grandparents, grandparents, and godparents for a holiday. It's cheaper than what you quoted for the school yearbook and it certainly preserves memories. Not exactly something I'd have a kid take to school to get signed like a real school yearbook though, that might be a bit egotistical. :p

Anyway, maybe if she has a close group of friends they could make and design their own to be printed.

Oh, I know they are put together by the majority volunteer parents...I simply have to work & can't be at the school as much as some parents. I'm a member of the PTA, but can't be there during the day. I did sign the release, I have no problem with that....that's why she was in the pic at the bottom of the page, but she was not in the individual pics of the class. Kind of a bummer since she was a part of the class.

I just hate when you feel so bad for your kid & there is not a darn thing you can do about it. (except of course to feed them some lines about how things aren't so bad)

Guess there were errors galore in the elementary yearbook that the neighbor's son goes to. Even had the name of the school spelled wrong!:confused3

You could always take one of her school pics and glue it to the page.

Seconding 'elementary school yearbook what?'

High school yearbooks yeah, elementary is a new one on me.

Oh I had this happen to me. for my SENIOR year picture.
They had photos taken in a dressy up outfit and since I was very uncomfortable changing in front of fellow classmates/bullies I decided to go to the studio itself and get my picture taken...my mom drove me all the way to the studio 30 minutes away to get this done. I got the pictures in time to give to the teacher in charge of the year book to put it in... Boy was I ever surprised to see it not in there!

Although I am in the list of not pictured (it's very small and unnoticable). If I knew it was not going to be put in, I would have had my parents take out a page in the back of the book where parents/relatives wish their child good luck etc. I found out the day I was going to take a test at the local community college so I was tired and upset.

I think the reason my picture was not in the yearbook is because it is different from the rest. I had a rose in my hand...none of the other students had it. But still I don't think being the different picture should have been left out. The studio had sent stickers of my picture to stick in the yearbook. So i covered up a girl's picture who bullied me in hs. but still I am not happy to this day.

Good grief! A yearbook for elementary?:confused3. What a waste of resources! I havent looked at my high school yearbooks for over 40 years:rolleyes1 so I don't get the necessity of an elementary book. I know someone may hold onto them--but I bet not many people do. FWIW, I feel the same way about pre- school and kindergarten "graduation" with mini caps and gowns.
Who thinks up this stuff?

OP, I am sorry if your DD is upset about the lack of picture(s) of her in the yearbook.

Just FYI - my DDs elementary school yearbooks are not hard bound. They have thick paper covers and are stapled at the seems. For me it takes the place of the class photo (although those are still offered also). So not as big of a deal as it may sound.

They love getting the signatures in them.

And to the OP - I would be upset. Even if it is a parent volunteer, that should be the one thing that gets triple checked.

All of our random photo pages are covered with the same eight kids...the PTA board members' kids. (The ones that are at school every.single.day.) This happens every year even though they request pictures from us. So annoying!

I still have all my elementary, middle, and high school year books. My mom wasn't allowed to get yearbooks when she was in school so she made sure my sister and I had our own every year. I still enjoy looking at them every now and then.
