Disappointed with DD's yearbook...

OP, that has to be upsetting for your DD, as well as the situations others have mentioned, not being in the YB.

I like the elementary school yearbooks. They were fairly inexpensive paperbacks and a nice keepsake. I moved to a different state early in HS and completely lost touch with people. I would have loved to have had a yearbook from elementary (grades 1 - 8) school.

There were times when I wasn't overly thrilled with the way my kids' yearbooks turned out. But, whatever.

DS had kind of a funny situation in HS. Since there was no boys' indoor track team (due to proposition whatever...equality in sports for girls and boys?), they had individual entrants from the school. They were allowed three, I think. Early in the season, DS had to stop running because of foot issues. The other runners were very active in track, indoor and out. On picture day, he was the only one there, so he alone represented boys' indoor track in the YB. I bet the parents of one of the other boys...the parents who pretty much "coached" and organized the "team"...were none too happy. Oh well. :confused3

You stated that the books only were for the here and now...

You say she came late to the school, or I am confused? I think it is unfortunate that your DD is not pictured on the class page but it could be bc she missed that particular picture day. If it works like ours does, the kids and employees pics are taken on one day, and only that day, if you are not there you are out of luck. I had one child start our school in Nov and two employees that started after these pics were taken, and several who were sick. When the portraits are delivered, I can then flow or upload them onto a page. That is all I can do and then put the missing people as Not Pictured/No Photo. I had several people ask if I could add their child but the way the page is set up by the YB provider, I can not do that. If your DD missed that picture day, the hands of the YB editors may be tied. If your DD was there for that day and some how got missed than you have a legitimate complaint, but once again just remember that this job is done by volunteers (I think you stated) who may not know every child or just may not be very good at it but they are the only ones to step up. Or sometimes even the best and well intentioned volunteers make mistakes.

She was there for the fall pics. They do fall & spring pics every year & the fall pics are what goes in the yearbook. I'm not complaining or raising a stink to the school, it's done, it can't be changed. It was just disappointing to my DD that she was not pictured or anything. The yearbook itself & the pics are done by a company. It may not have even been the schools mistake, could have been the company. Like I said before & will say again....it is just my opinion & personal experience about elementary yearbooks in general. Your opinion of them is different, that's fine with me.

AND, I'm aware many things are done by volunteers & appreciate them. I wish I would have been able to volunteer more this year, but our family had a very rough year.

So what if you work...who cares? Lame excuse! You never step foot in your child's school for anything:confused3, no concerts, no field trips to chaperone, never picking her up from an extracurricular activity etc...those are all perfect times to take pictures. My DH works but recently took the day off to go to DC with DS14's class, I sent him with my camera and told him to take pictures. Most of the parents I know who work go to something at the school during the year or go to concerts or sporting events etc.

And once again our elementary school YB is being discussed 29 years later on FB right now as we speak, so just bc you didnt form those connections doesnt meant other people dont!

That's high school though, when the kids do their own yearbook, so what does it matter what pictures your husband took or what concerts you'd attend? Two different things... also, presumably at something like a concert, there are dozens of parents taking pics so most kids could be represented in grammar school. It's not like every kid's individual parents would need to be there to photograph them to submit the photos to the kindergarten yearbook or whatever.

Sorry to hear.

I think you are confused....

It is not high school, this is a K-8 grade school and my DS14 is in 8th grade, he is graduating this week. This is grade school so the parents (I was the editor) were volunteers who worked on the YB.
