Disappointed in WDW pizza!

In years past, I remember the pizza at the POR food court as being pretty good. Maybe not great, but decent. We were there last month and ordered two small (personal) pizzas and they were lousy. Dry and not very flavorable. A few days later we were at the Boardwalk and I remember reading reviews about Spoodles Pizza window - saying that it was good. We ordered a whole pizza and it was terrible! The sauce was bland, the cheese really didn't have much flavor and the dough was, well, just dough.

On our last day we decided to order off-site - Gourmetto's (sp?). Now that was excellent pizza! I know I can't compare Disney with smaller pizzeria's - I'm just disappointed in their apparent decline in quality.

I've never had a good slice on Disney property. It's one thing I avoid like the plauge - that and the ethnic food over at the China pavillion at Epcot. Both are MUCH better at home...

N.E.D.

We too thought the slice of pizza at Spoodle's was terrible - tasted like cardboard w/ Chef boyardee sauce. Although we didn't have it this time, we found the pizza at Pizza Planet MGM was pretty good for a quick snack.
We didn't care for Mama Melrose's pizza either.

I know this will make me sound like a Pizza Snob, but coming from the NYC area, I long ago gave up finding a decent slice of pizza anywhere else. I always take reviews of pizza with a grain of salt because unless you have had a slice of Original Rays or even better, Joe's of Greenwich Village, you haven't had pizza.

The pizza at Wolfgang Puck express is pretty good

Since I don't eat meat, at some counter service places the only thing I could have was pizza. It was always bad. For the price, they should either improve it or keep it the same and lower the price - to maybe $.50.

I agree that most of the WDW pizza isn't all that good. For whatever reason, though, the full size pizzas tend to taste better than the personal ones. We usually end up with a pizza at the food court once during each trip (usually POR or POFQ) and they aren't bad.

I refuse to eat WDW pizza, last time we went over to Pizza Hut, not far from DTD.

If you're a Pizza Snob, I'm one with you and know many people from NJ and NY who have the same response about WDW pizza! I have to say the majority of food I've had there has been pretty good and have had very few complaints...but I completely gave up on eating pizza when I'm there. In past trips I've tried multiple places, and wasn't happy with any of them. But luckily there are plenty of other things there that I like, so it's just the first meal I have when I get home :D

You must have never tried some Chicago Deep Dish Pizza - and not the crap they play off as Chicago Deep Dish at Pizza hut.

YUMMY!

I'm in the same boat as you and I started ordering salads instead of that nasty pizza. It's such a waste of money! Even Dominos is better then what they serve at the Boardwalk.

The pizza at AK is very good (Pizzafari?), but I haven't found it to be that great anywhere else. Just standard.

My DS loved the pizza at MM off the childs menu. The pizza at RFK in DTD is also good.

BF and I ordered a pizza from the POR food court the last night we were there this past september and it was really good. We were actually surprised because we were expecting it to be more "frozen" tasting and it was actually very tasty...now, we do load it up with parmesan cheese and hot sprinkles so...maybe we just weren't tasting it but that's how we like our pizza and we thought it was great!

Is there ANY good food at Disney?? Maybe at the resorts, but certainly not at the parks. When I talk about "great" Disney food, I mean compared to OTHER Disney food. :earboy2:

I really don't mind spending the bucks for food--I just wish Disney would get some decent food at the parks. Even if they would just let a few other franchises in. DH and I were talking about this at Epcot over the weekend--there is nowhere in Epcot to get a decent cup of coffee, or any hot chocolate other than an envelope of chocolate powder mixed with hot water. Why not let Starbucks in?? Or Pizza Hut??

We ordered Giordano's and had it delivered to the CR. It was excellent and we had enough to have it again the next day. I used the micorwave at the Food and Fun Center to heat it up!

Being in Italy for nearly a month earlier this year ruined me on pizza altoghether. I "settle" for pizza at home, and have the local places that I still love. . . but it's all a big disappointment after eating pizza all over Italy. I wanted to go to Wolfgang Puck's while we were there a few weeks ago but we never made it - I've really been craving quattro formaggio and was hoping it was as good as I remembered (of course that was BEFORE Italy so it's hard to tell, hehe) But everything else at Disney is just like regular plain old chain pizza.

I'd rather make my own pizza at home most of the time with a do it yourself crust, some tomatoes, cheese and basil.

Actually...the only good pizza in this country is found in Chicagoland. Sorry New York, but it is better than your pizza. Home Run Inn and the original Chesdan's on Archer for thin crust, and Giordano's for stuffed (deep-dish).

I honestly didn't think the pizza was all that bad at Spoodle's. Certainly better than alot of other pizzas I've had outside of Chicagoland. Now maybe it has changed since last year, but I'll probably give it another try when we're down there.

Just an FYI, there is a Giordano's down in the Crossings restaurant area, or at least there was several years ago.

Can you order pizza to be delivered from an off-site restaurant? We will be staying at POP. Just wondering if an off-site restaurant would deliver on-site

I am a pizza lover and a bit of a pizza snob, but there is edible pizza at WDW. The two places I remember the pizza being very edible were Pizzafari at AK and Pizza Planet at MGM. Got to agree on Spoodles--it really isn't very good at all, nor is the pizza at the Food Courts (though the pizza at the counter service at AKL was actually pretty good). I live in New England for six years and searched all over the Boston/Providence/Worcester area for edible pizza, and, I must say, every place that was recommended was barely edible. I'll take the pizza served in the Chicago area over that on the East Coast, especially New England, any day. Pouring oil over the top of a pizza is just plain gross, and that's what lots of places on the East Coast seem to do!
