Disappointed in seven dwarfs mine ride!

I don't know who you are referring to, but.no one ever said it was a thrill ride in the vein of TOT or RNR. I thought that was pretty clear. No one ever said it wasn't family friendly. Just that the presence of matterhorn in fantasyland should demonstrate that its ok to have a full coaster in FL.

It IS okay to have a full coaster in Fantasyland...and 7DMT IS one. I think that is my point. 7DMT is a family freindly themed coaster that is on the less-intense side...just like Matterhorn.

Oh I think Universal will still be laughing heartily even if Disney pulls the Marvel plug. Big deal. They would rename a roller coaster and change the theme in one ride.. Spiderman.. big whoop.
Spiderman is an older ride and is hardly the reason people go to Universal, with this HP expansion Universal will be printing money.

Actually, Spider-Man is one of the best rides at Universal and might be difficult to retheme. It's definitely my favorite thing at IoA!

Hey, Uni's bound to be happy with all the Harry Potter hype, but their attendance is still far below Magic Kingdom, and that's unlikely to change any time soon.

Actually, it'd be three rides...Doctor Doom's Fear Fall and Storm Force Accelatron are Marvel-based as well. (I'm not trying to argue, just pointing out that info lol :thumbsup2)

Thank you... I edited my comments. As you can tell even though we have been to Universal I wasn't paying much attention to the Marvel area of the park. lol

And I was never saying that 7dmt wasn't a full coaster. I haven't ridden it, I can't comment.

My first post about all of this was responding to someone who said that of course a full coaster wouldn't be appropriate for fantasyland, because FL is for children who generally can't ride coasters. I was pointing out the logical fallacy of that, given the matterhorn's existence in FL at DLR.

You may want to hold on for Avatar...sounds like it will cover a lot of your complaints.::yes::

Isn't it just a boat ride with lots of fluorescent lighting? I recall Disneyseas had TWO rides with some pretty awesome looking fluorescent rooms. Journey and 20,000 Leagues. And they are, what 15 years old now?

If the boat ride even happens. If it doesn't, Avatarland is just Soarin' part 2 and a fireworks display.

It does kinda imply that those who wanted a "full coaster" don't consider it such, but I get what you're saying.

Others may not consider it a full coaster...I honestly don't have an opinion on whether it is or isn't, and won't til I get to ride it in November ;)

just trying to say that a coaster is not out of place in FL, that's all :goodvibes

Not out of place at all. I think some people only consider coasters as the big fast ones. Nothing in the MK is really all that intense (DL too). There is so much gnashing of teeth over this fact though that I just don't understand it.

I was so sad to have just missed the opening of it on my last trip. Hope to get back to it soon.

Just because people wish 7DMT had been done differently, or that univrrsal is doing.better with HP, doesn't mean they dont still love Disney.

I'll never understand why it has to be either or for so many.
I love both, but lately enjoy Universal more. It's sort of like if they were two children. One consistently deliver's A's and the other gives you D's and F's. You love both equally, but are disappointed and know that the other could just do better if they tried...and when they finally come home with a solid C (7DMT), you get excited and think it's amazing because expectations have been lower and you're happy with any improvement. ;)

I don't know why the go to response when people express disappointment in 7DMT is always "what do you expect it's Disney not Universal!"

Forget Universal. What about comparing Disney to Disney? Look at Radiator Springs Racers. A slightly higher height limit than 7DMT, but definitely not much more of a "thrill ride". Radiator Springs Racers has a dark ride portion that is much longer than 7DMT, and a beautifully themed outside portion in a beautifully themed area. You are in Radiator Springs. You are not simply on an attraction in California Adventure.

There are lots of ways the 7DMT could have been better IMO. It's very cute, but for the centrepiece of the NFL area, it's a let down to me. I would have loved to see the majority of the ride indoors, more show scenes, etc. It's just not as impressive as something like RSR to me, and that's Disney's own work not anybody else's.

Staff at universal were laughing about it!

If Universal staff were laughing about it, they still clearly haven't learned. Disney dominates Universal still, so they are doing something right. The coaster isn't aimed towards adults... it's for families and kids. It's a great ride for that area of the park.

Universal... if they didn't have Harry Potter they'd be getting CRUSHED right now.

If Disney didn't have Mickey Mouse, they'd never exist. What's your point?

HP was a brilliant business decision by Universal, and really transformed the Orlando parks. And I'm sure will do similar wonders in LA and Japan. IT is giving customers high tech rides to enjoy.

Disney's brilliant business decision was to kidnap its customers at the airport and not give them ANY new high tech rides.

Who knows, had Universal not got Potter, maybe they would have bought Star Wars. And actually, you know, built some new rides that would coincide with the new movie coming out next year that might be sorta popular.

The fact that there isn't at the bare minimum a Mos Eisley Cantina in the works somewhere to serve blue milk and other unique food/drinks with walk around characters and "happenings" is rather mind blowing, imho.

It's been almost a year since the "Orange Harvest" display, and still not a peep out of PR, or a grain of dirt moved.

I think I can agree with this, having NOT ridden 7DMT it seems that the legittimate issue for me is ride length. I don't mind that the coaster is mild, but the theming and dark ride portions seem short (though I hear that what is there is very good). I think this was a space limitation thing (look at the HUGE space they had for RSR), but maybe it wasn't the ideal type of ride for the location? Possibly.

Watch what happens if Disney continues to underestimate the competition. Microsoft used to think Internet Explorer couldn't be touched. Chrome now has double the market share. Apple was close to down and out and through innovation and providing a top notch product look where they are now. I'm sure Yahoo wasn't worried about Google at first either. If Disney continues to be complacent and churn out a mediocre product while ignoring the competition and milking their loyal customer base for every last cent....well, time will tell, but that 'strategy' hasn't worked well in the past.

I can tell you from being in Texas, from Disney's ads I would expect it to be a fast coaster. The ads running here have an older tween (9-11) and his brother (13-14) along with his parents going to the ride, along with rapping dwarves, and makes the curves and dips look fast. It's one of the first attraction rides I've seen for Disney on TV here (we never got one for Everest or the new Fantasyland even, but Magicbands yes)...

Now, KNOWING the park and KNOWING Fantasyland, I wouldn't expect it to be a thrill ride. However, I do hold Disney a bit responsible for the marketing, and for not adding things for teens.

NO one argues that Vekoma is the best coaster designer in the world. Most prolific, perhaps, due to the hundreds of clones of roller skaters and boomerangs throughout the world.

RnRC starts to show how Vekoma is far from the best, especially when loops are involved.

I'd go with B&M as being close to or the top in design, at least the last few years. Gatekeeper at Cedar Point, Banshee at Kings Island...THOSE are some thrill rides. I see people talking about BTMRR and SM and Everest being thrill rides....I enjoy these whenever we can make it down to Disney but for me they are pretty calm...the new Banshee at Kings Island has 7 inversions and a first drop that makes you feel like you're entering a stall/spin in a Cessna.

We are making another trip to Disney in August and am looking forward to 7DMT, themes on the rides at CP and KI is lacking to non existent, it's one of the reasons we like coming to Disney, not really for the "thrill" factor but for something different to enjoy. Disney like any place else is a business, of course they are going to hype something new, it's called advertising.

The hype for these didn't match the rides either, but they are still awesome rides

yep that's the ad that's playing here a lot, that why I said they were hyping the new ride and it wasn't just people on the DIS.

I think that Spidey could be replaced by Batman fairly easily. I'd miss old web head but Batman and Gotham City could be really amazing.

You can tell in the ad that hills are nonexistent but it does look like it's flying. I've seen that and it did give me a different impression than what is apparently reality.
