Disappointed in seven dwarfs mine ride!

Not when Disney pays over a billion dollars to Universal for the rights to Marvel characters. It will pay for the IOA Marvel Island overhaul itself. If Disney wanted them they could have them (Marvel). But then what would they do with them? It's not like they are going to spring for a Marvel attraction, Avatar AND Star Wars at the same time, right?

Universal has a close relationship with WB (see Harry Potter;)). If they want DC then they will get it. Otherwise they just keep Marvel and keep Disney at bay.

Oh I wasn't denying that Universal didn't have a relationship with WB, I was just pointing out that extra detail they would have to deal with as well since Six Flags has thrived with the property.

I live 18 miles from a Six Flags and have had an AP since 1979. The only DC representation I see is on merchandising and a pretty cool anatomically correct Wonder Woman figure in the gift shop.;)

They have characters around sometimes but it's pretty rare now. I think it would be a no brainer for Universal to pick them up if Disney was willing to buy them out. Otherwise they can continue to make more money than Disney on the Marvel merchandise they sell in their parks without even owning them.

Could you elaborate on what you think is too scary for children? Or maybe what age group of children you're referring to. We haven't ridden it yet, but plan to next month, so I'm curiously following each and every thread on this ride. On a different thread, someone mentioned "3 big drops," and I do think those were the exact words -- curious as to what you think about that comment. Others said the drops were no more than 20-30 feet each -- I'm just trying to get all the facts straight before taking my 2 kids on it, not to mention I'm not a big fan of drops:upsidedow.

Check out youtube. You can watch the entire ride. It looks very cute. I haven't been on it myself, but honestly, the rollercoaster part doesn't look anymore intense then say the Great Goofini.

We discussed that in another thread, maybe the "Uni wins this round" one. The Six Flags-DC thing is a state by state relationship and WB could hook up Universal with the DC characters in Florida, no conflict with the Six Flags agreements.

Ok...I see you are from Cottage Grove (MN), but really...are you comparing Valleyfair to Islands of Adventure? :rotfl: I like the place, but the two are about as similar as Magic Kingdom and Six Flags.

Just more proof how the hardcore Disney folks simply refuse to even give Universal a chance, like they are offended by them.

Dismissing the two parks that have the most technologically advanced dark rides, costing in excess of $100 million EACH (one costing more than pretty much every ride at Valleyfair! combined), as "thrill ride parks", is really a sign of complete cluelessness.

Saying IOA is nothing but B&M megaloop coasters is essentially like saying Magic Kingdom is nothing but 40 year old basic dark rides, princesses and the Hall of Presidents.

And too many screens, way too many screens on the rides at UO.

That's probably why TSMM and Soarin' are so unpopular........;)

I believed this was discussed earlier in the thread. The outer boundaries of New Fantasyland were already fixed and pretty much set in stone by the time 7DMT entered the picture. At that point, 7DMT was limited in size by the other new attractions around it.

2 things :

Move them! they own the whole flippin area! extend the boundary.

2. If you can't go out size wise Go UP!! It's a mine, build a mountain. Then like I said before put it inside where a mine ride should take place not out in the Florida sun, unless it's a strip mine and don't think the PC folks and the tree huggers would like that!

who knows, had universal not got potter, maybe they would have bought star wars. And actually, you know, built some new rides that would coincide with the new movie coming out next year that might be sorta popular.

The fact that there isn't at the bare minimum a mos eisley cantina in the works somewhere to serve blue milk and other unique food/drinks with walk around characters and "happenings" is rather mind blowing, imho.

YES!!!! I absolutely agree 100% with this. Mind blowing.....

1. And probably add a whole ton of expense to the budget in the process. And schedule delays for all of NFL/FLE of what? Six months or more? How far into planning/development were these other attractions? How much money would go to waste by reconfiguring the whole area? It is so easy to play with OPM, isn't it?

2. I actually like your idea for it to be all indoors (but assuming more well-lit than Space or RnRC), but again, money money money. There's also only so far up it can go before you get into the whole themed-area concept and destroying site lines and stuff--Disney takes these very seriously.

We rode it this past weekend- it is EXACTLY what I expected: relatively short, cute, family ride.

I think a lot of people were really wanted to be "WOW'd" by the ride seeing as how it took over 3 years to construct. I already know that Disney is on "island time" and the longer something takes to construct doesn't necessarily equate to the "wow factor" of a ride...

I'm just happy the walls are down and there is another ride to divert crowds. My kids loved the ride :yay:

Now for the walls all over the hub..... :worried:

I agree with you that Disney needs to step up the game with Star Wars, but George Lucas would never have sold Lucasfilm to Universal. He has a long-standing working relationship with Disney and has said numerous times that Disney is the only company he'd trust with the future of Lucasfilm.

there was years of hype about this short ride. it is disappointing for all of the hubaloo about it and time it took to open.

He said that because of the relationship. A lot happens behind the scenes.

I realize they already had a serious relationship. But the point is, it really is the theme park motherload, and they have done nothing. And have nothing on the "orange" horizon. Meaning, as slow as they build stuff, it will likely be almost 10 years after they bought Star Wars before they actually use it to huge effect in a theme park.

I don't know, maybe it's me... but I hate superhero movies and superhero rides. And I couldn't care less about Harry Potter. I have no need for another thrill ride at Disney. SDMT looks awesome. I'd take it over every single ride in Universal Studios.

The whole Universal vs Disney World thing is odd to me (especially on this website). WDW is more than a place with some rides in it. It's an experience. It's beautiful. Resorts, dining, beautiful landmarks. You immerse yourself in this magical place separate from the real world.

Universal is full of rides based on movies that were universally (pardon the pun) panned by critics. It's directed to adolescents pumping testosterone. Transformers? Please...

Take away Harry Potter and it's no different than every Six Flags park in the country.

If you're going for thrill rides based on poorly written remakes and sequels, clearly there is a place for you in Orlando.

o.

Really? Then why is there thread after thread about maximizing fp+?
Ok, Disney is a theme with a nicer coat of paint. Lol

100% agree. We tend to seriously over hype every thing Disney does.

I feel that way about BOG, granted the building is gorgeous but the food? Meh!! I was so disappointed especially after months of reading about folks waking up at the crack of dawn to get ADRs

Have you been to Universal?

I don't know about your amusement parks but I have been to quite a few amusement parks and NONE of them have themeing like Universal and Disney! Don't know of anything like the Universal rides or Disney rides and sets/scenery/attention to detail at any Six Flags, or Cedar Point, or Kennywood or Dorney, etc.

I don't know why the go to response when people express disappointment in 7DMT is always "what do you expect it's Disney not Universal!"

Forget Universal. What about comparing Disney to Disney? Look at Radiator Springs Racers. A slightly higher height limit than 7DMT, but definitely not much more of a "thrill ride". Radiator Springs Racers has a dark ride portion that is much longer than 7DMT, and a beautifully themed outside portion in a beautifully themed area. You are in Radiator Springs. You are not simply on an attraction in California Adventure.

There are lots of ways the 7DMT could have been better IMO. It's very cute, but for the centrepiece of the NFL area, it's a let down to me. I would have loved to see the majority of the ride indoors, more show scenes, etc. It's just not as impressive as something like RSR to me, and that's Disney's own work not anybody else's.

Exactly - Disney set the bar high for themselves. We expect to be blown away by the artistry of a Disney attraction because we always have been before.
