Disappointed in Port Orleans French Quarter

I stayed onsite for the 1st time in 2005. I couldn't decide where to stay so I resort hopped. My 1st resort was PO FQ which has gotten great reviews. I walked into the room and all I could hear was a baby in the next room screaming. I thought the room was cute and would have probably been happy with it as long as the baby would stop screaming. I went out for a few hours and came back and that baby was still screaming. When I called the front desk and asked for a room change and they said they were full. I called later to asked to be moved the next day and a different person answered and said they could move me now they had plenty of rooms (it was about 11pm). The bellhop helping me move my bags looked at me like I was crazy when I said they were full.I did change rooms but I was irritated that I was lied to earlier by the CM and that they were really not full. I really wanted to enjoy my WDW so out of curousity I called to find out if I could switch resorts.I was offered the WL WV for alittle extra money. I jumped at the opportunity to stay at WL and I loved it. I also stayed at AKL(loved it) Poly(loved it) but then I stayed at BWI and I know this is a popular resort but I had so many issues from a toilet that didn't work (and the room smelled that way) to black mold on the ceiling over the bed to listening to the man in the next room snoring all night. Well all the BWI rooms were full and I couldn't be moved to any other room or any other resort at all of WDW.The next day (at 6am) they gave me a really nice upgrade for no charge but I myself would never stay there again. Also I am not really sure I know what bedbug bites look like but I did wake up with numerous bites on my legs when I stayed there. I am so grateful that WDW offers so many choices for all of us to choose from.:)

We stayed at POFQ this past February and I was not impressed with the rooms either. There was hair on the floor in the corners in the bathroom. The furniture had stains on it from where people had placed their glasses. The rugs were dirty and there were holes in the blankets (like they were burnt by cigarettes). We loved staying on property but the room was not worth the money you pay, I thought the Hampton Inn for $79 a night we stayed at on our ride down, was 100% nicer then POFQ. Disney gets big money for their rooms because people will pay to stay on property. Linda

Reading all of these posts regarding bed bugs just makes it even more important for hotels to really keep up on the mattresses in their rooms. I truly believe there should be some sort of a system regarding mattresses. Every mattress should only be used for 1 full year. I also think Disney should start investing in temperpedic mattresses - in the long run, they last longer and are better for your back. Just a thought.

Just Returned From Our Trip To Disney On Sunday Evening. We Stayed At The French Quarter Thursday - Sunday. We Go To Disney 3 Times A Year And This Was Our First Time At The French Quarter. We Love Disney And Pretty Much Have Loved All The Resorts We Have Stayed In. We Did Not Feel That French Quarter Was Worth The Money We Payed.

Pros:
1. Our Kids Loved The Pool Area.
2. We Were Close To The Dining Area

Cons:
1. This Place Was Filthy! It Was Busy This Weekend But The Place Was Dirty. The Food Court Was Always Messy And Housekeeping Always Kept There Big Buckets In The Walkways. (all Day)

2. Bed Bugs - We All Woke Up Every Morning With Bug Bites. My Sister-in-law And Her Family Stayed There As Well. They Had Bites Too.

3. Transportation - We Waited Forever For Buses And Boats. We Were The Only Ones To Board The Mgm Bus And We Must Of Waited 35 Minutes For It. We Also Waited On The Dtd Boat For Over 30 Minutes. Boats Would Come But They Would Say They Were Going To Riverside Only. When We Were In Dtd We Waited 25 Minutes For A Bus To Come And Take Us Back To The Resort.

Here Is A List Of Places We Have Stayed:
Wilderness Lodge
Riverside
Carribean Beach
Pop Century
Poly

Please Do Not Think I Am Picky, I Just Was Not Happy With This Resort.
Sorry about your trip.

Sorry about your less than stelllar trip...

I really hope that you told management about the bedbugs.....

Did you tell them.
Kerri

Sorry you had a bad stay. The bedbug bites would have had me out of that room the next day! Did you report them? They should have had you in a different room the next day. Bedbugs seem to be a problem at a lot of resorts lately. Even heard reports of them on cruises. Yuck.

I also hate to see that housekeeping cart all day long. I realize they must use it, but I wish they had an area to hide them away in each hallway. One time we had a big problem at my favorite resort -- the BWI -- with that housekeeping cart. It seemed to be parked outside our room every day for hours with no one in sight! We would have to push it a bit to actually open our door! I complained about it but it was always there. We figured it must its' "parking spot".

Please ,please, please let management know about this. If they don't get any complaints the problem will continue. No matter where you stay, or what you pay, bed bugs are a no-no

If a room isn't clean, or has any sort of bugs (especially bedbugs), I'd call and be asked to be moved immediately.

We just got back last night and were EXTREMELY happy with the resort. That's a shame about the bed bugs but I'm sure that can happen at any resort. On our MGM day we also waited about 20 minutes but didn't mind. We talked with the other families and our kids played with the other kids. It made the wait go quicker. Honestly, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. We had dinner at Chef Mickey's one night at the Contemporary and were not impressed at all. The monorail really did nothing for us.

I am sorry that you had a less than wonderful time at POFQ. Not to belittle the bug thing but that could also happen at CR and I do hope that you informed management about it.

Sorry to hear about your experience! We stayed at POFQ in 2002 and thought it was really nice. However, we stayed at Riverside this past Jan for 2 nights and HATED it. At Riverside we waited at least 30 minutes for a bus each time we left for a park and waited two or three buses before we were able to get on one to get back to the resort. We also encountered some rude CMs there (vs our 7 night stay at WL before that where everyone was as nice as you could possibly imagine). :confused3 Ya never know.

I'm sorry that you had those bad experiences at POFQ. We stayed there for the first time in Feb. and loved everything about it. Unfortunately, bad things can happen at any resort. Hopefully next time you stay at a Disney resort everything will be fine. Especially the bed bugs incident (eww) I would freak out if that ever happened to me!

sorry to hear about your bad trip. I am staying at POR in August, and if there is one complaint i have, i will immediately WALK down to Guest services (callling does nothing) and demand a new room.

what building were you in? we just got back from FQ on Saturday and we didnt have any problems like you. yes the mousekeeping carts were out all day but they were out because the mousekeepers were working off of them the food court didnt seem bad to me but if you are used to going to the mall then you are used to that, we stayed in building 5 on the 2nd floor and had no problems with bed bugs, as for the boats if you are waiting to go to DTD the boat that docks on the left side goes to downtown disney and the one on the right goes to riverside, and if you are waiting to go back to the resort from DTD every boat with a yellow flag stops at both FQ and Riverside. at MGM if you were the only one's waiting most likly you just missed a bus. and just like any resort it can take some time for another one to come, this was are 3rd time staying at FQ and have always had good experiences.

I am still wanting to hear if you told the front desk and what their response was. Let us know.

I have a reservation there for Sept, I can tell you right now that I will not tolerate Bed Bugs! If the Op had told the front desk about the Bugs, I am sure we would have heard how the front desk handled it!:confused3 I read all the posts and kept waiting for the answer to how the bug issue was handled. Now another family will check in and have to deal with it. I just hope that they will take the issue to the front desk, so it can be dealt with!

OP, I am sorry you had a bad time at the POFQ.

Bedbugs, mess, and long bus waits will not fair well for this Type Aer! :sad2:

Wow. Sorry you had such a bad stay. I would contact Disney and let them know. I stayed at this resort when it was brand new or close to it. It was my honeymoon 15 years ago and it will always remain near and dear to my heart. I have never stayed again, but back then it was breathtaking.

Wow- we just returned on Friday & we were at POFQ for 10 days. We absolutely
LOVED it!!! I cannot say enough good things about it. We were in building 5, 3rd
floor & our room was clean, mousekeeping was great. Received towel animals,
I thought the food court was good & we had no problems with busses. Once
we waited 20 min. but we had just missed the bus when we got to the bus stop. We saw it pulling away as we were walking to the bus stop. We stayed at Pop
last year & did not like so much. (Very noisy to me) especially now since staying
at POFQ there's just no comparison. It was so nice & quiet, the hot tub was great, we just loved it. My 18 year old said this was the best resort so far. I would recommend POFQ to anyone & we cannot wait to go back.

I'm wondering if the OP could have gotten bites when in the parks?? I know when we went to Fantasmic the bugs were really bad but other than that no
problems. So sorry that you did not enjoy it & had problems because we just
loved it there.
