Disappointed in Port Orleans French Quarter

Oh gosh I have never stayed at POR, our TA told me that we would really enjoy it and so would our kids.
I am kinda concerned now after this if I made a good choice.

Ikinda am wondering why she would not say what they did to correct the problem or what they did because of the supposed Bed Bugs.

Iknow that after 1 night I would be visiting the front desk! not wait until check out but thats just me.


We are going at Xmas , has anyone heard of a case of this before at disney???

Guess I will check my matteress when we get there!

Would no response make you wonder on the issue at hand??

Have read about bedbugs at AKL and FW Cabins, so like any other hotel, Disney can get those awful things too!

But sometimes people assume it is bedbugs without checking. Like you, if I thought for a moment there were bedbugs I'd be on the phone instantly, request the housekeeping manager to check the room and request a room change to be safe.

Wonder what happened - wish the OP would post an update.

As for dirty food courts, that is usually a guest problem. I don't blame Disney when people are too lazy to pick up a plate and put it in the trash. Sure, CM's need to wipe the tables, but if everyone threw their own trash away, places wouldn't look so dirty.

I will second and third this! It really amazes me how sloppy some people are while on vacation. I think some people have the attitude that we are paying to stay here, so why should we pick up after ourselves. We stayed at one hotel (not WDW) where the occupant would put there dirty diapers out in the hotel hallway to be picked up. Why did they think other paying guests wanted to look at their dirty diapers when going down the hall. This was a nice hotel also (not that I would expect this at any hotel).

We stayed in POFQ last August, building 2 and loved the resort...quaint, quiet and charming..IMO..Sorry it was not a good esperience for you. As far as bedbugs, I would not have spent a second night with bugs either. Rashes can be from numerous things.. allergies, chlrorine in the pool, other bug bites etc...

don't know if OP has been back to post here or any where else on dis but my thought on the bedbug situation is this. She sounded like she was unsure if that is truly what they were, also did not have problem until Saturday? It was a short stay (Thurs. nite thru check out Sun. if I am reading it right) so maybe lots of park time and little resort time to follow through? who knows? just bring your little penlight to check those mattesses folks and do ask at front desk to be moved if you are concerned. yuk.

I always end up with bug bites at Disney. Not from bed bugs, from mosquitos and such. Perhaps that was the case here?

Our last visit to POFQ overlapped that of the OP, and I have to say we did not experience ANY of the problems they talked about. Did not see any buckets in walkways all day, did not have any problem with the DTD boats, did not wait more than 20 minutes for a bus (wait time was typically 10-15 minutes), didn't see or get bitten by any bedbugs, and if I noticed a mess, even a small one, in the food court it was attributable to another guest not cleaning up after themselves, as a PP said. The food court CM's were constantly moving around the dining area cleaning up after messy guests.

I can't say it isn't possible the OP experienced what they did, we just didn't see it.

ETA- I love POFQ so much I'll be returning there in 49 days!

This was posted MAY 1. Someone brought the thread back up. Perhaps since the trip is over the OP no longer frequents the boards.

I don't think anyone has to specifically worry about POFQ. Yes, bedbugs are back in the U.S and you should always be aware when checking into a hotel room. But, a case of bug bites does not equate to bed bugs.

sorry to hear about your bad trip. I am staying at POR in August, and if there is one complaint i have, i will immediately WALK down to Guest services (callling does nothing) and demand a new room.

Calling does get results. when I got to my room. I found dead bed bugs and the white powder use for bombing. I called got a rude front desk person, and asked for the manager. I was waited outside the room and was brought a new map, and room keys, with a new room assignment. All was better.

The bedroom and other sleeping areas should be carefully examined for bed bugs and signs of bed bug activity. Folds and creases in the bed linens, and seams and tufts of mattresses and box springs, in particular, may harbor bed bugs or their eggs. They may also be found within pleats of curtains, beneath loose areas of wallpaper near the bed, in corners of desks and dressers, within spaces of wicker furniture, behind cove molding, and in laundry or other items on the floor or around the room. Sometimes, characteristic dark brown or reddish fecal spots of bed bugs are apparent on the bed linens, mattress or walls near the bed. A peculiar coriander-like odor may be detected in some heavily infested residences.

Bed bugs hide during the day in dark, protected sites. They seem to prefer fabric, wood, and paper surfaces. They usually occur in fairly close proximity to the host, although they can travel far distances. In defense of WDW resort cleaning crews:
Bed bugs are most frequently found in dwellings with a high rate of occupant turnover, such as hotels, motels, hostels, dormitories, shelters, apartment complexes, tenements, and prisons. Such infestations usually are not a reflection of poor hygiene or bad housekeeping.
