Disappointed in Pop/Value Level

The Pop is overpriced. The OP is correct on the Motel 8 comment because my kids say the same thing. The rooms are very small and the beds are horrible. But if you want to go to Disney at a reasonable rate your stuck with the Values. Only in Disney would I sleep in such a small room facing a bowling pin.

Well, if your kids say so....

This August we stayed our first night at Pop, before our GF/YC split stay.

I found Pop to be fine. We had a quiet location in 60s near lake. Our room was clean, and bed was very comfy. We were 2 adults, myself & daughter so I had a bed to myself. I don't think I'd want to fit 4 in a room, but for 2 it was fine.

I do enjoy POR/FQ or the deluxe more, because we take longer trips, usually 10 - 14 days, and spend more time at our resort, and the mods or deluxe are more relaxing. But I find nothing wrong with Pop, and wouldn't lump it in with a motel 6 :confused3

That's just my opinion. Good thing there's lots of different resorts to choose from to keep everyone happy!!

Thanks for your opinion OP. We like to visit Pop each trip to redeem arcade points for prizes and we will sometimes grab a snack in the food court, but we don't have much interest in actually staying there. Did you get a chance to visit AoA? Being that its new, the rooms are probably very nice right now.

I just had a great experience at Movies. It served my purposes perfectly and was really cheap-$184 for 2 nights with all taxes/fees included thru Orbitz on a 20% off promo code. It was clean (spotless actually) and quiet. My room was ideally located for me-really near parking and the quiet pool. I was there to swim, shower, and sleep. I never heard a thing while in the room, even from the room next door that was decorated with "Just Engaged" on the window.
I have also stayed Deluxe (Poly, AKL, and WL) before but never in a Moderate. My last deluxe stay (WL) was underwhelming other than common areas and the grounds. The WL room was nowhere near as clean overall as I thought it should have been and the view (granted we paid for standard) was of a parking lot with trucks beeping as they backed up starting at 6AM.
I will admit that my one visit to the food court was pretty appalling but I was just picking up a dessert and drink to go. I am more of a food snob than a resort snob-I ate at Poly. CR, and Boardwalk.

Well, if your kids say so....

Lol. Literally. I nearly fell off my seat.

So did I! :thumbsup2

I honestly don't understand the issue here, POP is a VALUE resort which means that you get SOME of the amenities that Disney offers it's resort, for a fraction of the cost of a deluxe room. You get a clean room, great transportation to and from the airport and to the parks, huge food court with many choices, themed pools and all that comes with the great customer service you expect from Disney.

If your room is not clean, call housekeeping. If it takes too long to get your food at the foodcourt because you need to go yo different stations, it's because you have CHOICES, unlike some of the other resorts where you can choose from a limited menu of 2 sandwiches, 2 burgers, chicken tenders or a salad. You want a hot tub, pay more $$ and stay at a moderate. If you get a rude CM or a CM with an attitude, ask to speak to a supervisor, I am a 150% that he/she will make things right. Disney is not known for it's bad customer service. If you consider your room is too small, well consider how much you are really paying to stay on Disney property with all the amenities listed above and you'll find the price just right ;)

We have stayed at all resort levels, paying cash and using our points and we love POP, we find the resort a FUN place to stay. As a matter of fact, we are staying at POFQ next month and I am seriously considering moving our res to POP.

Honestly, you can't expect to pay Holiday Inn prices and expect Ritz Carlton service...

Putting POP on the level of Motel 6. Just, wow! You either have never been to Motel 6 or had the worst experience ever at Pop. We love it and nearly picked it over CS on our next trip.

I still have never seen a Motel 6 with a food court, a bowling pin pool, a second pool, a gift shop, loads of CM's and a cute voice on the other end of the wakeup call! :confused3. Let alone the free bus service to the most enjoyable places in the world.....:rolleyes1

We stayed at POP and we really didn't like it. You open the door to the room and the bed is *right there*, like inches away. It is a small room.

I think it's best if you are 1 or 2 people and you really don't stay in your room at all. Otherwise, it's grim. I would rather stay offsite. Bigger room and probably cheaper, too.

I've stayed at a lot of Motel 6 locations as well as other lodging on a similar price level - Econolodge, Super 8, Travelodge, etc. ... Let's just say I've never had anyone attempt to sell me illegal substances or "companionship services" at Disney value resorts.

The size and amenities of the rooms themselves, as well as the layout of the buildings, are comparable to those chains, but not the upkeep, service, resort amenities, and general atmosphere. Is everything perfect? No, but it's also not crazy bad either, and in my experience, WDW CMs are mostly pretty responsive to reasonable complaints.

In contrast, the last time I stayed at a Super 8, I called the front desk on a Saturday morning because the toilet was leaking from the valve. They told me the maintenance guy was out for the weekend and couldn't move me because the other rooms were full, so I should just fold a towel up under the leak until Monday. If a WDW value resort ever does something like that to me, I'll come here and tell everyone about it immediately.

We loved POP when the kids were young. We don't fit now that they are grown but I still think it is a fun resort at a good price.

We stayed at POP last month for the first time. We normally stay at AKL (DVC). We were satisfied with everything keeping in mind it is a value resort. Room was clean and Pools were very nice. Weather was another story tho.

All those people in one room. No wonder it was cramped. :) Just kidding but I couldn't resist.

On a serious note, I am the booking agent for my job and, seeing the prices of any decent room lately, I have to say that the values really offer a pretty good deal. Far more amenities than a standard hotel and location is everything.

I like the Pop particularly when I have grand kids with me. Food court child friendly. I have stayed Boardwalk, Ft Wilderness, Port Orleans all star movie and sports, the only resort I didn't care for was the Coronado. I believe it depends on how Much room relaxing, and resort activity planned. If we are
Just planning park time and sleep. Value is fine. My only requirement is close to transportation. Not looking for a 2 mile hike (embellishing a wee bit) to the food court or transportation . Lol

I forgot to add my sister,husband,sister#2, aunt,brother.I don't think I missed anyone.

Ah yes, the justifying back pedal.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me in the least that you felt that way. I do think the comparisons are incredibly over the top. People want to pay the minimum but get the maximum. You're staying at a bare bones resort. It's beds, a shower, clean... I don't really understand why more than that is expected by anyone. Champagne taste on a beer budget as they say. What kind of standards were you going in with to be THAT disappointed?

I get that it's still expensive being the lowest level resort, but it's Disney and it is in line with other theme parks that are similar. What's a Motel 6 run these days? $60 per night? So you're paying roughly $40ish extra bucks for unlimited transportation, a food court that's open all day, multiple pools, and a few extras like the arcade. Seems fine.

If its unclean it needs to be taken up with management on site immediately and they'll resolve it ASAP.

When I travel I always stay at the Ritz Carlton, Westin or Four Seasons. Except when I go to Disney World. Then I book the cheapest room I can find, put on my reservation that it is my dog walker's niece's cat's birthday, and hope to get upgraded to a Suite at the Poly or GF. I mean after all, of the 30,000 - 40,000 guests on property, I'm the only one celebrating anything.

Oh, and I don't understand why my QS dinning plan doesn't get me dinner at Citricos either.

Each person has to decide what is reasonable for themselves. I find around $100 a night to be very reasonable for a resort that:

will pick me up and take me back to the airport
take me to all of the local Disney theme parks and shopping district
has a huge food court and game room and gift shop
has multiple pools to swim in

What of that does your average Motel 6 do or have?

Yes, this! And the Resort Airline Check-in. That is worth it's weight in gold right there!
