Disappointed in Kindergarten (Part 2)

I am a reading coach in Alabama where DIBELS is a big deal. It sounds to me like they will use the testing info. to help them set up classes, groups, etc. DIBELS is an assessment that gives the teachers information on the readiness of children and some of their academic needs for reading instruction. In my school, our K-1 teachers work closely and we have had advanced K students go to a First gr. class for reading group and First graders who are below level go to a K class to build basics needed to learn to read. Good Luck!!

DS just started K a week and half ago and I'm not too sure what to think yet, either.

Also, the beginning seems to be a lot of learning routines, etc. My DS is still a bit anxious about school so I'm glad that his teacher is getting all those things established so he'll know what to expect day to day.

A lot of teachers (and curriculum) start very slowly - with much of the material being review from the previous year. The main reason for this is that the kids will (hopefully, hopefully!) be successful with the material and won't have to think too hard about that - and can then concentrate on the NEW routines, NEW expectations, and everything else that is NEW. I couldn't imagine being 5 and being expected to learn something new (and challenging) at the same time as adjusting to a new teacher, new school, new routine, new friends, etc.

That being said it sounds like the OP's daughter has been in school for 3 weeks now. They should be moving on to more exciting things.... imo
