Disappointed in Blue Bayou

I personally was disapointed to not see the Portabello Mushrooms with Black eyed peas and garlic mash potatos not on the menu anymore. They were always perfect and amzing and lovely for a vegetarian. Especially since their veggy pasta isn't that good (though it has been years since I had it)

Argh! It's gone? THen I guess we WILL be having a dessert-only meal there.

To the OP, I'm so sorry you had such a lousy experience! Though I've heard similar, definitely. Almost seems 50/50, whether or not you have a good meal.

I'm sorry you didn't like you experiance.

This is one of the reasons I think Disney needs to explain their ADR system better. Most people go into them thinking they are like normal reservations and end up disapointed when they are not seated immediatly.

First time we went to DL I had no idea how anything worked (yah I was stupid and did no pre-planning). Fortuanlty for us we got lucky and ended up with a water view dead center.

Does anyone know exactly how many days you have to make a reservation? im planning to go on june 20th or around that area, can i call in still and make a reservation, or am i out of luck?

You can make ADR's 60 days out for TS resturants.

Fantasmic desert buffet reservations can be made 30 days out.

You shouldn't have any problems getting an ADR for BB. DL ADR's arn't has hard to get as WDW's, execept the Fantasmic Desert buffet which you have to call 30 days before the minute they open the llines.

Blue Bayou for me was a one-time experience, and just not worth repeating. Overpriced, mediocre food and pretty awful service (and we were even waterside!) I actually prefer the view from the boats. :)

There are so many better dining options in the park for us. :)

You should be okay, we called last week for next Friday and got one just fine.

You can book priority seating up to 60 days in advance. You shouldn't have a problem booking for June 20th but I would do it ASAP, just to guarantee a spot. I think kids will be out of school for the summer starting that week.

thanks ! just one more question, do i request for waterside seats when i call for the reservation, or at the time of arrival at disneyland before im seated?

I have adr's for july 20th at 11:30 ( opening) and want a water side table. Do they have any for a party of 6 and if so how early should we arrive to check in. Thanks

You request it when you check in at the BB desk. If you are there at opening, I'd get there VERY early (about 1/2 hour) and wait in line if you really want a water seat. It can get crazy there at opening, and you'll want to have your name on the list first.

Good luck, and enjoy! And remember - you get free refills on the Mint Juleps!

We ate at the Blue Bayou 2 weeks ago today. We had a table by the water (had an 11:30 APR). We loved the atmosphere! We were prepared for the prices thanks to this board. We're in the minority in the fact that none of us really liked the Monte Cristo sandwich. Flavor was good, but way too rich. All in all, the experience was great and we'd do it again!!

Oh no, I think a lot of people will agree that the Monte Cristo is almost too rich! That is why we always shared it, now that they charge you to do that, it makes it annoying and rich!

I agree that Blue Bayou is hit or miss. We have generally been okay with our food, but did get or rather had, to sit next to the restroom once which was not fun. And I also agree, eating there is like CRT at MK, its something to do once, then up for grabs as to whether you do it again.

And Priority Seatings (they don't call them ADR's at DL) merely means that when you check in at that time, thats when you get added to the list of parties to be seated. I have at times gotten seated right away, other times its been over a half hour. At WDW and DL. Which is why sometimes the lemonade and churros idea is a good one!

I am sorry you had a bad meal at BB..I have to say...I have never been disappointed in the meal..or..service..That being said..I had better knock on wood.. because I will be sitting down to dinner there in 5 days..lol

Thanks for the sympathy guys.

I think I'll try it again, probably with more people and during lunch time and I will definitely ask for water seating beforehand. :)

I did love the gumbo though.
Does anyone know if you can get that outside of Blue Bayou?

I just checked the menus on AllEarsNet, and they listed that Cafe Orleans in New Orleans Square has the gumbo.

I hope that you do try the BB again. Whenever I go there, I take a deep, calming breath before checking in, knowing that it could be a hectic situation and maybe a wait. But, it's worth it! Enjoy!
