Disappointed in BLT

Just got back from a stay at BLT and was underwhelmed with the hotel. There was a smell, not only to the room but also in the hallways, that I can only describe as the smell of a cheap motel. All I can think of is that it is the cleaning products they use, please try something new! The room was as others have described, pretty beat up. The couch was the worst with bad stains all over it. It was bad enough that I told them they should really do something about it. I have a room booked there in Oct. that I am going to try to switch to SSR, thats how disappointed I was with my stay there. I would rather deal with the bus transportation at SSR than to stay at BLT again. By the way they now have locks on the bathroom doors.

Sorry you had a bad experience. Luckily there are multiple DVC resorts on properly. Different strokes for different folks.

did you get an odd numbered number?

those are the only ones to me they need work.

would try BCV or BWV before going back to SSR.

I'm sorry you had a bad unit, and I'm glad you mentioned the condition of the couch to people who could do something about it.

We had a great 2 bedroom a year and a half ago, and in January, I'll be in a studio and a 1 bedroom there. I hadn't noticed any smell, and did like the location and I'm looking forward to going again.

I did have an odd numbered unit. I am trying SSR because there is no chance of getting BWV or BCV at 4 months out during Food and Wine.

Sorry you didn't enjoy BLT. My only suggestion, and this is the same for any DVC resort, is not to judge the resort based on one trip. We've had good and not-so-good experiences at nearly every DVC resort (yes we've stayed in all the on-site ones) and find something to like about all of them.

We stayed in BLT for the first time this past April and are eager to try it again next May. You might want to give it another chance at some point. Thanks for the report, and hopefully your next DVC stay will be a magical one. :)

Great advice, thanks. We will give it another try at some point.

BLT has a fantastic location, wonderful views. Such a shame they used cheap materials to build it.

There is on reason this had to happen other than poor leadership. Now it will have to be redone.

We only stayed there one night, but here is my assessment:
1) I really, really, really enjoyed watching the fireworks from that walkway that stretches between BLT and the Contemporary. Awesome! That alone was worth the stay.
2) I liked what the Contemporary had to offer on the other side of that walkway. The store was nice, as was the dining options.
3) Obviously, the location was ideal in terms of quickly getting to the parks.
4) I loved the view over Bay Lake.

BUT....................I do have two small criticisms...

5) I felt the theme wasn't very Disney to me. Granted, I feel the same way about the Contemporary. It just seemed like the them was "hotel." That isn't a theme to me, lol.
6) I didn't swim at the pool, but it seemed less interesting than some of the other DVC pools that I visited.

Overall, though, I would definitely stay there again. My kids are a bit older now and don't like Magic Kingdom as much as they once did, so my vote still goes to BWV for its location.

What could be more Disney than having a monorail run right through the resort?

I dreamt of staying at the Contemporary since I was young and on my wife and I's first Disney trip we paid a little extra to stay right in the Grand Concourse. It was everything I hoped for. We ate almost every breakfast at the Concourse Steak House with the awesome view of monorails coming through every few minutes. It looks like a futuristic space port.

I prefer OKW now but I still love visiting the Contemporary.

I'm just puzzled by the odd numbered rooms. I haven't stayed at BLT yet but am planing on making reservations there tomorrow for our January trip. Do you have a theory why the odd numbered rooms are worse than the even?

We have stayed at BLT several times.

We have never had a significant issue with our room or common areas.

There were little items and issues which detracted slightly from being a perfect experience. But they were not to the point that it bothered me too much.

When I first saw the pictures online of the rooms, I wasn't too sure I would like them. But after a couple of vacations to BLT, I have grown to like the rooms.

We officially switched our Oct trip from BLT to SSR. Maybe we will try BLT again in a year or so. The most discouraging part was the smell of the place, we never got used to it.

Sorry to hear your accommodations were not what you were hoping for. We have our first BLT stay in October for 4 nights in a studio. We are looking forward to using TOTWL for Wishes and being able to walk back from MNSSHP. I am glad to hear that others have had better experiences. We are hardly ever in the room, so hopefully the short-comings will go unnoticed.

I just returned from a stay at BLT in May. The location, TOTW lounge, views, connection to the CR is great! Otherwise, to me it really felt like a regular hotel.
I did enjoy my stay, and just booked another trip for next year. I feel very lucky to be able to stay there with DVC.
I didn't like how they say it is so secure by having to use a room key to enter, but yet anybody can walk in from the CR walkway.

We stayed at BLT in January, didn't notice a smell either. But did notice a lot of dust on the light fixtures.

We have stayed in a 2 bedroom twice over the past year, we found no smell and between both trips we traveled with 9 different people. Great part of DVC is the options!!!! I cannot wait to book BLT for food and wine 2012! Not big on buses and loved the ride from Epcot to and from BLT on the monorail!
