Disappearing PJs

Just for those who are worried...I think your countdowns are fine!

But I have seen people posting their invites/newsletters/save the dates and they show everything (first and last names, etc.). That's the kind of stuff you have to be cautious about.

And I definitely wouldn't worry about showing pictures of your event! Of course that helps people plan and everyone loves looking at wedding photos.

It is sad that so many are deleting their PJs. Without past brides' PJs, TRs, and words of advice, I would not have had such a fantastic wedding! I felt very comfortable having my PJ and TR up-- but I didn't include much personal information. I would never vent about any family or friends because they all know about the DIS. Anything I posted about DFTW was all things I said to them directly. It has concerned me in the past when I've seen people's real names (especially last names) and their locations. I always keep in mind that the Internet is as public as it gets. Sometimes it may seem anonymous and distant from behind the keyboard. I've been on the DIS for years and we visit WDW at least once a month. I can say I've seen a handful of DISers out and about in that time. I think this is becoming much more of an issue than it needs to be. If everyone is mindful of the information they post, I do not believe there is any reason to worry or be concerned.

I feel the same way about future Disney Brides losing information. Since Disney is so secretive about everything until you give them money or until a certain calender day it's nice to be able to get information. I was so thrilled when I found this board and could see some options. Although, I do hope that no one is in any real danger and I can understand if they feel threatened.

There are plenty of ways to share your day with everyone and still be fairly anonymous to the rest of the world. I posted plenty of photos, but my Photo Bucket account is password protected. So people can only see what I post. I had Randy lock my honeymoon pics (password protected, I should say). I sent the password to friends & family and posted the pics I wanted the rest of the world to see. I never post links to photos, such as Randy's website or the Disney Wedding photos. I just post the actual pics and everyone gets the gist of it. Anyone who wanted to see more just PM'd me and I sent the info.

Regarding invites, STDs, and newsletters... put them into a photo editing program (MS Digital Image, Photoshop, I think even Paint will do it). Make sure you paint over names, addresses, and any other personal info (where your registered, dates, etc.). Then post the edited photos. Everyone can still see all the work you put into them and your safe from prying eyes!

I think, like HiWayGal said, tickers are ok. I believe my ticker just said "___ Days Unitl our Wedding!" Our names weren't used. Sure someone can figure that out, but rest assured there are gals having their weddings on your day at WDW that don't post on the DIS.

This can still be a friendly place to share the joy of your wedding (and the bad days as well!). BayouPrincess suggested thinking before you vent-- and I can't agree more. Let it sink in when your WP says you can't have the teal overlays. I know it's devestating at that moment (believe me, my WP had many frustrated emails in the beginning of my planning that I was later embarassed about), but is it going to ruin your wedding? What do you want the outcome to be? Let it marinate and then post and vent away. The DFTW is really great overall. I had my issues with my WP and the Escape florist, but they were aware of my issues before I brought it to the DIS. I believe lurkyloo posted this way back and I made it my wedding mantra-- choose 3 things that must be perfect, let go of everything else. Try it, you will be a happier bride, I promise!

I deleted my PJ/TR because I was/am being stalked by some random guy who saw my pictures on this board. He approached me in Disney World and then here in my local mall. He said some extremely inappropriate things, and I ended up filing a police report against him.

I asked both the mods of this board, and the head mods to PLEASE delete my journals entirely, which they refused to do. So here's my advise to everyone here. Before you post, remember that everything is stuck here permanently. Even if you delete your posts, you can't delete other peoples quotes. Your posts can be read by anyone with a computer... not just past and future brides. There's a lot of sickos out there and believe me, its better to be safe than be in a place where you life is in danger.

I agree. I am mindful of what I post and have even deleted certain things AFTER I posted them. Just think of it as any other online thing...

I signe d up for one of those pasword protected forums, Disneymoons I think, but It wasn't the same as here on the DIS boards. I do have a stalker...My ex's new girlfriend, she stalks my regular blog and I have seen she posted a question thing on here, but I am not worried about her, I think she is just curious. I have been careful about names and removed dates from things. But like someone else said if it wasn't for Past DIS brides I would have been lost!

I am on other sites as well, but recently started my PJ... the information I found on other PJ's was invaluable to my planning. It is sad to see many people removing theirs. Where will future brides get ideas? I was carefull not to post anything too revealing I went back and edited a few times but as long as you don't bluntly state personal info for obvious reasons you'll be ok. I love them because you can keep all your ideas, and others comments in one place rather than in different threads.

No offense to those of you who have done PJ's but those are a fairly new "thing" here. I guess they started about a year ago.

Before that, people would ask questions and everyone would just chime in with their answers. And that still happens anyway!

Personally, for me, the PJ's get a little too long to read to find out information quickly. If I had a question about certain menus or something, I don't necessarily have the time (or the patience ) to read 40+ pages of stuff to get to the information I need. ;)

Kristen,
I knew you had "actual" trouble and that's just sad that people feel they need to intrude. I hope all goes well and you can get all this behind you.

First of all, I have a PJ, and no offense was taken :cutie:
Second, I too have noticed they are a new thing. When I started browsing around here about a year ago there were a lot of 'question' posts. I left the boards for about 6 months then came back and it was like every other post was a PJ. :confused3

I would like it if we could divide the post (the way they do on the restaurants forum), so that PJs and questions were separated. It might make it easier to see which questions need answering, vs. sifting through all the PJs. Just a thought...

Oh, I'm glad you weren't offended!!

I know everyone likes something different and if the PJ's work for you all, then that's what really matters!

I think this is a great idea too! Then those of us who are addicted to PJs could have all of them in one place, while the general questions remained together. :thumbsup2

Absolutely makes sense! In the trip report boards, there are three groups: Trippies, Pre-Trippies and Completed Trippies. Maybe the same can be done for this board.

I, in the meantime, need to live vicariously through all of you. It is almost May and there is still no ring on my finger (heck, I'd skip the ring even, if there were at least a proposal).

I love the idea of seperating PJs, TRs, etc!! I think it would be awesome! Sometimes when you're browsing down the list they can all get blurred together. :)
