For those of you who have been around the Peeps board a while, this story will rival the
Trixie locking me out of my car story.
Well, we had a family "girls weekend" this past weekend with my mom, sisters, SIL and all the girl granddaughters in TN. Well it lasted a little longer than anticipated.

Let me start at the beginning.
I come in from my morning walk on Friday to meet DS coming down the stairs telling me that something is wrong with his eye. His eyelid is red and totally swollen.

Ok, now I am Tminus 6 hours from leaving on my trip.

So, I tell him that we have to get him to the DR that AM because he was also going on a separate trip with my friends to the other side of TN. Well, I was able to get him in, but we had to go to preschool first because they needed help unloading since that big storm was a coming, and I am the only extra kid unloader on Fridays. So we go to the church, help unload the kids, then scoot on to the DR before the bottom falls out.
We get to the DR and DS has a sty in his eye. Nothing big, but is given drops to keep his eye from getting infected since he is going out of town with grownups who aren't his parents, but are the next best thing.
Well, DH calls and tells DS that he will pick him up from preschool and take him to lunch since the DR gave him a nice note that excused him from school on Friday. Well, when DH comes and picks him up, he looks at my tires. He calls me on my cell, while I'm taking the two year olds to go potty

, and tells me that something is wrong with one of my tires, and I MUST have it seen about before leaving town.
Well, as soon as the last kid was loaded up, I was outta there. Praying all the way to the tire store that it would hold together til I got there. I tell the man that my tire needs to be looked at because it is low. He looks and there is a nice large screw in my tire.

He told me that he could patch it, and it should only take about 25 minutes. Ok, that's not too bad. I'm only about 45 min. behind schedule.
I call DH and tell him to check DD out of school and go take her shopping for snacks for our trip. I knew it was close to the time I told her that I would be checking her out, and she would FREAK if I wasn't there. Plus, it would buy some time.

I get my tire fixed get to the bank, get gas, and buy my goodies, and get home.
We get on the road, and we were only about 1 1/2 hours behind, not bad. I call my SIL to tell her because my mom would worry if I told her.

So, we were on the road. It was actually a blessing in disguise because that extra time gave all the rain time to move on, and we waved at Celerystalker as we passed by

and had a nice trip.....UNTIL......
I get within a half mile of my destination, and a
GOOSE flew into my windshield, and shattered it like a spider web!

I was not going fast because I had actually slowed down to look at the name of the road where I needed to turn. I saw his friend first, and he cleared my SUV (aka boat on wheels), but his friend obviously didn't stay in formation because he met my windshield right smack in the middle.
So needless to say we were a bit shaken, but I kept driving because it was getting close to dark, and I wanted to be able to survey the damage at our destination. I knew there was nothing we could do about it Friday night because all the local shops were closed. I was here to visit with my family, and I wasn't going to let it ruin our weekend, but I was worried about what to do. Well, it was still sprinkling a little, and my sister was at
WalMart, so I called her and told her to get me a tarp. When she got back, I covered my windshield with the tarp and secured it by shutting it into the front doors. That's the redneck way to tie a tarp down.
So, I get up Saturday morning, and start calling all 4 places

lmao

listed in the local yellow pages. Guess what? No one answered.

So, I go to my car, and get out my local (AL) yellow pages that I keep in my car. I call places that say they are nationwide, and have 1-800 numbers.

My husband had told me a ball park figure for the cost of a windshield that he had received on Friday night. I got someone to give me a decent price, and they could fix me MONDAY morning. She was meant to help me too because her name was Dory, as in Finding Nemo.

But we were supposed to be out of our place on SUNDAY.

Luckily, there had been a nice new looking hotel at the exit where I got off onto that horrible stretch of road. They could put me and DD up for the night.
So, the nice windshield man came to the hotel bright and early Monday morning and fixed my windshield. We got on the road by lunchtime, waved to CEL again.

and got home in time for DD to practice her piano, and get to her softball game. WHEW what a weekend!
Now feel free to laugh at my misfortune because I sure have. I just realized that I probably got a new windshield for my BIG birthday.

I really do feel blessed that it was just a broken windshield. It could have been so much worse. I could have lost control of the car and wrecked, or worse. I feel very lucky that it wasn't anything worse. I believe that God was watching over us.
But, on a serious note, I came home to find out that my neighbor's 17 yo son has been missing since Saturday. Please send some pixie dust, and prayers their way. I can't imagine what they are going through right now. Please pray that he comes back home safely.
Update - He has been found!!! Praise God!!
