HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SANDY!!!

Hey - I'm a newbie. I was introduced to this thread by Faith - a very good friend of mine. She invited me to come over here. Wow - what a great group of people providing a safe and supportive environment.
My name is Tina, I'm 37, a single mom and have a DS14 who fortunately has no weight problem! I have a lot of weight to lose - but unlike most people, have NOT spent my whole life trying every diet known to man. I am starting now. I have to. I'm definitely an emotional eater - and hate hate hate exercising, but did join a gym over a year ago, so I know that when you exercise you do actually feel better. Not sure about actually joining again, but going to start out by walking.
From reading, I understand that Friday's are weigh in days? I will definitely be back to report if that's ok with all of you!! Thanks!!
Guess what????

We're taking a mega spontaneous drive 9 hours to the south west of us!!!!
Our Disneyland AP's expire next week. So park entrance is FREE this time.
We're taking the Toyota not the Suburban so we'll get great mileage.
Booked a no- tell motel called the Islander Inn and Suites (two full stars, out of 5). We bought snacks and breakfast stuff at Walmart.
It's a quest to do it for as little $ as possible.
Jordan is staying. No, I will not be a grandmother in 9 months. Thanks for thinking that. LOL!!!!
He's in charge of the pets...please pray for my 2 dogs and 2 cats whilst I'm gone.
So we're going from a grey slushy cold winter day to the 70's and a little sunshine! Not to mention the new Nemo ride!
The goal is 3:00 leave time. 5 hours later we'll be at Buffalo Bills at the State Line of Nevada where mama will attempt to win some souvenir $ by playing Texas Holdem. Won't win and will be stuck with pin trading and photographs only.
Do you know how CHEAP it is at Buffalo Bills? $59 for a double queen size bed room. ((High Five!))
Crazy or What???? Sheez it's certifiable! Or brilliant?
Anyway...I'll be around to record our weights but will someone reliable back me up and take over with the totals after all have recorded? Please try to post early-ish, ok? Will that someone PM me with the totals?
Both the name and + or - and then the grand total for the day. I'd be much abliged![]()
Ok, I'm all set from my broccoli stir fry dinner.. Gut is already rumbling.

That was me! Thanks for the information. It does make perfect sense to me why it would work, and since I've got "only" ~20 pounds to lose, basing it on my goal weight should work just fine. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I never thought my problem would be that I wasn't eating enough. But this will give me some good guidelines so I don't do that any more.Who asked about the calorie count???
Goal weight X 12 calories=Calories per day
If you stick to this formula strictly.....YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT! It's science...no matter what kind of diet you are on (Atkins, south beach, WW, etc.) losing weight is simply a matter of eating fewer calories than you burn.
If the formula is not enough calories for you then choose an intermediate goal weight and calculate those calories. Sometimes if you are trying to lose a lot of weight (maybe 50ish pounds or more) the intermediate goal weight is the best place to start. It's hard to survive on enough calories for someone who weighs 50-100 pounds less than you. And if it becomes too hard then you won't stick to it.
If the intermediate goal weight is still not enough calories then you have two choices. 1....decide to weigh more than your goal. 2....exercise to burn the extra calories you're eating.
Just be honest with yourself. Don't try to sneak in the extra calories.![]()
Can I just be done with coughing?
I am feeling better, but still not close to being me yet.
I think today, I'm having a set back of sorts, but nothing major.
I should have a great weigh day tomorrow.![]()
I don't know. I can eat a LOT of coconut and pineapple.I agree! And it would be so fun to be stuck together. Think how skinny we'd all be after being on the island for a while!
For building up confidence, my DS' 2nd grade teacher recommended Cub Scouts, and she was right. So I pass that on. For your other DS, encourage him to read what he likes to build up his comprehension. Books as gifts, trips to the library as a treat, etc. Compliment him and listen to him when he tells you about those books (maybe even read some of the same ones and have a "book club"). John Scieszka, a very gross, funny author, has a website called guysread.com with lots of suggestions on books for boys. Then, when your son has to read something not interesting to him, remind him that you know he can comprehend it, that he just needs to use his brain the same way he does with the books he likes. And then reward him when he does well on that reading (I spent 9 yrs. as a youth librarian and 7 as a school librarian before moving to the classroom). They're pretty good. We've got parent conferences tonight. I am pretty excited to see how my DS6 is doing. He was behind a little since kindergarten but is slowly catching up. He gets very nervous about answering in class so the teacher said last time (Nov) we have to build up his confidence. He progressed in his reading so good since the beginning of the year. I am one proud momma I tell you. My other DS8 had trouble with comprehension in reading. He only remembers and comprehends things he likes to readHow can I change that one. Anyway I'll let you guys know later how they're doing.

Good luck with DF. The best you can do with someone else's eating is be a good example and give him the opportunity to eat well when you are cooking. And talk to him about how you feel at the thought of losing him. (OK why do I feel so Dear Abby-ish today?)I'm annoyed at DF right now. He isn't supposed to be working, but when I talked to him this morning he was doing "errands" for his work, which isn't technically working, but he keeps on going into his work even though he can't work. Does that make any sense? Then we were thinking about going out this afternoon, but he was too weak. He gets exhausted very easily these days, so he should know better, and not work. I don't care what he says, going into work and doing errands is working.
I think I'm going to buy the Betty Crocker heart cookbook, and see if I can't make him eat better, since he does mainly eat just junk. Actually, that's an understatement. Everytime I've seen him eat, with the exception of when I cook, it's been fast food, (though he doesn't like fries go figure,) and when we go to sit-down restaurants, it's ribs, bbq chicken, or steak. Once in awhile he does get plain fish, but that is rare. He's also a smoker, so that doesn't help either, though he quits once in awhile, he always starts again.
Guess what????

Happy Birthday! Sandy!
Going Wedding Dress shopping today! Most girls cant wait to get to the store and buy something right away. I have been engaged since last May and I just starting to look now (my wedding is this Sept)
Everyone have a peepalicious weekend!
Don't hate me cause I had pneumonia this week but it helped me get through my funk.
This week alone, I lost 8 pounds!
I've been eating pretty normal the last 2 days so I know this is a true weight.
I think of it was my reward for being this terribly sick all week. I think that puts me at 19 total.
SAMER here.... i am sad about it..but thats what i get for getting a chicken sadwich at LONGHORN ( SHOUT OUT DAWN!last night AND eating the deadly salty fries..i must have about 3 lbs of water weight on me still...
