i also saw the Shaq show..I couldn't believe that one kid, Walter i think his name was?? All he did was vplay video games and eat. I can't imagine that!!! When i was younger, even till about 14 i was always outside with my friends playing one thing or another, just movin' around. What is going on with kids these days..I really wonder if alot of them don't have the need to be creative with their free time anymore since there are so many built in options for them to be spoon fed ( ie tv, video games computers)..its so sad :(

ThinkTink - you have a plan - that's HUGE!! and part of me truly believes to be successful at this weight loss stuff, we do have to get a grip on everything- those that lose the weight and keep it off figure out how to have some cake at a bday - (maybe a bite, maybe no icing) but definately, if you arent willing to give something up for life you cant give it up for dieting (and that came to mind with the Atkins and no carb diets) Again, I'm finding those that are successful have really slimmed down calories - at KimKin site (someone posted about this success - and its a HUGE success) I read the part of her 3 day, or first week is limiting your caloric intake to 800 calories.

Well I am successful when I only eat rice and chicken breast, drink lemon water and V8 juice... but I get so dizzy its not funny.

I think my biggest problem was sweets and other junk like chips and stuff SO I decided to just cut them out completely until WDW. It is a good way to keep my energy up for the bulk of my summer soccer season, as well as, give my wieght loss a jump start. I think my problem in the past has been moderation. Having a cookie is fine, even two. Not 8. Or when you have 10 celebrations to go to in a month, you don't have to have cake each time, ya know? And don't even get me started about ice cream. My big problem with my carb eating today has mostly been because I know I don't have anything really pressing as far as exercise going on. Maybe I will jump on the trampoline with the kids for a little while.... :yay:

Ahhh DARNIT! I'm determined to make something work! lol :)

And Yes, I saw the SHAQ SHOW! I really like it!

Thinktink - I forgot to mention the part I hated about Shaq show - they manipulated those kids for good tv. I'm having a hard time with that - in that by just giving them equipment and a place to work out - but no adults (and you bet some of those moms were scripted to NOT get involved) they did set those kids up for failure - that was this tvshows purpose - so the next step is Shaq stepping in and working out with them..

I feel that way because of the personal trainer remarks, and how the previews showed the next phase...

I believe that the end results will be great - but I just wish it was set up differently. Like why not let some of the family work with the kids (esp since some of "us" parents need the work out too) OR why not have a trainer available there at the gym to supervise, help, instruct? WHere is Trainer Bob? (from NBC Fit show)

Speaking of spoilers... :rolleyes1 anyone want a spoiler about WDW???

(you didnt hear it here - so shhhhh) :surfweb: but a bird told me that the doom buggies are going to be replaced at Haunted Mansion (its a rumor, so dont quote - seeings how I read it on the internet, who knows how true it is!!) the other rumor on the board was The Great Movie Ride may replace some scenes!! (of course this is an alll too familiar - when will they update GMR? It probably wont happen before '09 tho!) and another familiar rumor they may take down the hand on Epcot's Earth!! and light up the sorcerers hat... etc etc... Just when I thought this was going to be my last trip to disney!! :rotfl2: Again, its internet - so speculate, dont take my word for it!! (I know no CM's I've just been reading all over the 'net) :surfweb:

About the Shaq show-- On one hand, leaving them alone I thought DID make them look bad for good TV- the setting up for failure part was right.... BUT I felt as though, it taught them a lesson, as well. They will now look up to Shaq and their trainer for help and advice and I thought the nutrionist was great! She put it into terms kids could understand AND I loved how she made them throw out all the junk she brought over. I thought that overall the trainer was mean- he had a lot of comments that are one thing to say to an adult but another to say to a kid. I didn't like that aspect of it- making the kids look that bad, I felt the same way at the start of the show when they showed each on actually eating- was that needed? ya know? But I think all the kids will grow and understand and lose wieght during the show which will not just make their lives better BUT extend them as much. And hopefully the kids can be an inspiration to other kids out there, not so much the adults on the show. ;)

PS- I am so intrigued by your Disney rumors! I am interested to see how things change. We went in January 2006 for The Happiest Celebration on Earth and SOOOO many changes have happened! Not just new additions like EE and the Yak and Yeti restaurant in AK, The Seas being taken over by Nemo and the new Nemo ride at EPCOT, updated POTC and new Monsters Inc Laugh Floor at MK, and the Ratatouille addition to the SAMC parade at MGM BUT also an entirely new celebration! I can't believe how much changes so quickly there. We won't be back in Florida very soon after our trip in a couple weeks because we have to fly down for a wedding in January- so I can only imagine how much will change in 2 more years! popcorn::

::::::Oh and another fitness update::::::
I bought my pedometer for our WDW trip yesterday! It is not that fancy- but it goes right on my belt clip, counts steps, distance, and calories burned. I may test it this weekend because I am going to NYC with my sister for some shopping so I will be sure to report! :thumbsup2

I was born in 1983- the first Nintendo came out when I was 6... by the time I was in 6th grade we had dial-up internet in our house and years before that we had something call "Prodigy" that was primitive but similar. I feel as though these video game, computer, and tv options have been there my ENTIRE life. I always disagreed with the idea that TV, Video Games, or Computers makes people gain any kind of wieght or be lazy. (I had many college professors who disagreed completely with this) I feel like your comment about "built-in options" was right on the money. Why didn't Walter's parents sign him up for a sports team? Or why not setting a rule of only X amount of video game a day? Or what about just making him play outside? He would be exercising AND coming up with creative games to play. I felt a lot of the problems in the kids on the Shaq show had to do with their parents being enablers. Not to blame them and stuff-- I mean, it could have been the shows point to blame parents and in that case it was very one sided. I dunno...

*sigh, born in '83!

Pedometer warning: be careful going potty... :rolleyes1 Some of those clips arent as strong as they appear!!

Mel - thanks for that perspective on Shaq Show - I see it better now!!

I got in a debate (and I wouldnt say I lost, but I know my opinion was lone, and therefore ignored! BUT I am only a sub, they are the full time classroom teachers... :sad2: ) about "motivation" I happen to believe it is very important to get a root causes... why did a kid behave badly? Mostly I see screams for attention (and not just for parents or teachers, some of that 'bad' behavior is an attention getting device for peers as well - you know - NOTICE ME!! ONE WAY OR OTHER, I wont be ignored... then you get in a huge cycle, and you may not know "why" you are behaving negatively...

<oops, stand down mom>
:cool2:

I completely agree with you! That is the same with these obese kids! There is a reason they eat! And I have found that myself in my classroom- instead of constantly penalizing the student sometimes giving an afternoon teacher detention worked wonders for me- I got to get the kids doing there work and they got the attention they were seeking!

In any case, enough with my Off-Topicness... and thanks for the pedometer tip! I have dropped some very unflushable things in toilets before! lol! :rotfl:

Also I am doing the happy dance- I just made milkshakes with the kids I babysit for and didn't even lick the spoon! And it was Mint Choc Chip- my fav! :woohoo:

ONE more???? Great for You, Punkie!!!!! You rock!!!!!!

i wish!!! no, not 1 more total. i have around 9 more total to lose. i was saying if i lost 8 in one week, then i'd have 1 more to go. i've been teetering between 137 and 141 for the past month.....:confused3 it's very frustrating. i know i should be grateful that i've lost the weight i have, but it seems like it's just stopped and i'm not doing anything different! anyway, my goal is 130. we'll see how i feel about it when (notice i didn't say if, but when!) i get there. i may go for 125.....depends on if i'm in a size 8 or not. i'm in a 10 now. i'm *so* back on the wagon after this weekend.......even for the 4th of july!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm back Peeps! I actually got home around 11am, I think. It didn't take much time at all, and I don't remember ANYTHING! One minute I was thinking "OK, things are starting to look a little funny, but the meds better work better than this." The next minute I was waking up in the recovery room! And I wasn't acting silly or anything. :rotfl: (There was a pretty entertaining woman in a neighboring room though!) And the test showed nothing abnormal. So, I am going back on Prilosec, and I will have to talk to my doctor to find out if that is the only option to take care of the heartburn. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers Peeps! :goodvibes Love you all!

That's why I don't practice criminal or family law...too, too sad.

Ok I was just thinking about this and it makes me laugh so I'll share with all of you. When we were at EPCOT on Saturday we were in China at a kiosk where they sell different flavors of frozen tea. Kind of like icetea slushies, some flavors have alcohol and some don't. SO we were waiting in line to order and the lady ahead of us asked , I kid you not..."Is the frozen tea cold?" When the lady working at the kiosk said "Yes it's frozen" the customer said "well never mind I don't want it then". She left and my DDs and I and the lady at the kiosk just couldn't stop laughing!
