Happy Birthday Fidge

I highly recommend TourGuideMike.com or *****************... I paid for TGM and made our entire itinerary- there are banner links on the Dis often and you can get the service for only $18.95 when you click from there. It has SOOO much information, along with recommendations for ADRs (I had picked ours already, however) and what parks to avoid each day and such. I think it will really help us get around crowds and such. Also, I have just been checking TP site as our vacation days show up free. Hope that helps, what are you thinking about for ADRs?

Ohana's, Chef Mickey's, Sci-Fi, Crystal Palace, Whispering Canyon, Planet Hollywood - all kid friendly restuarants. I need a few more. Any suggestions? BTW, my husband is the only one who eats fish & shrimp - no lobster, my oldest son is very picky & we would prefer places that are kid friendly so that we are not constantly telling the kids to be quiet. Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Happy 28th Birthday Fidge! Yes, I saw the report that you were 40, but I'll believe you when you say you are 28 if you'll believe me when I say I'm 29. Deal?

Just a quick check in because we are taking my DS to camp in an hour or so. I have DH checking his bag, etc. Last night I didn't have to have any willpower at all. My sister had to cancel so I had a bowl of cereal with skim milk. Later, at the wedding reception, I had some of the fresh fruit and veggies set out, 2 chicken strips, 3 meatballs, a shrimp paste sandwich and 2 beers.

Lunch was a salad with Newman's Own low fat sesame ginger dressing. Dinner tonight is steak with steamed green beans and boiled potatoes.

Have a great day everyone!

Gretchen

40 Fidgey? I'm right behind you in September! Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Forty year old women are FIERCE!

We are COUGARS not kittens!

Have the very best Birthday EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday Fidgealicious!

Its Disney, no one will care - well maybe at Victoria and Alberts!! Seriously even at LeCellier, its a quieter, darker place, but its always filled with kids - I think more places are setting aside "kid areas" (like smoking areas) THere was a write up in the Trib today about it - maybe even Dear Abby... anyway eat where you want...

www.allearsnet.com - click on Dining and then on the left click the area and read the menus!

My dh is a fish lover, me shrimp yes, salmon no thank you! Give me steak -
We ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe because we were staying there - I didnt think it was that great - but kinda fun... Since you are staying at POR you should go there from Magic Kingdom by boat - then probably the same way back to MK then to your resort...

Planet Hollywood doesnt get that great of reviews, its expensive (even with that coupon) but its in Downtown Disney - we liked Earl of Sandwich in DTD...

We loved Ohana's Stitch breakfast (it was all you can eat and they brought it to us!) We're going to try Crystal Palace for the first time in Sept... at MK we eat CS places, Tomorrowland or Frontierland both are fine (It depends on what side of the park we're on when we get hungry) Just know the one in Tomorrowland has 4 different menus - and lines!! (some are chicken, some are burgers - )

Hey everyone,

I will hopefully be finishing up with my Masters Degree in April 2008 which really isn't too far away. I have been wanting to do a really nice vacation when I'm finished with everything before I start working and have to worry about earning vacation time, etc.

I'm looking for some suggestions. I know Disney will be the obvious choice, but I actually want to do something non-disney. Some of the possibilities so far:

1. NYC. I went here in 2005 and had a great time. There was still so much we didn't do. But on the other hand, I feel like I might like to go someplace I've never ever been too.

2. Another Cruise. We may be going on a short cruise with DSIL's family at Christmas so if we do, I wouldn't want to do another cruise in April. That being said...

3. Alaskan Cruise...maybe. That is a really BIG trip though.

4. A Florida Road Trip. There are a ton of things here in Florida that I have not been to, like St. Augustine, the west coast.

5. Savannah, Ga. Paula Deen made me do it.

6. Washington, D.C.

7. Williamsburg, Va.

So that is it. Any suggestions for other places or thoughts on things I already am thinking about? There is so much out there but I want it to be convenient to get to all the fun stuff. And I like to have a lot of options for things to do.

Thanks guys. I don't feel complete unless I'm planning a vacation. No matter when it is or where its for.

Congrats on being less than a year away from your Masters! Yay! What is your degree in? I am a teacher and just finished my first year- barely thinking about my Masters yet though... lol...
Okay so hopefully I can be of some help- first of all, I am a NYer so my first vote is NYC.... there is sooooooo much to do! I have been there 100s of times and still haven't seen everything! Plus NY itself is a beautiful state and you can do a lot by not traveling far out of the city. NY summers are as humid as FL so go in May! :)
I think Virginia is a good choice also BUT why not try Virginia Beach instead of Williamsburg?- there are many reasons I say this- first being that when my family went we made Williamsburg a one day excursion, got up early, came home late and saw everything... PLUS we were still able to relax. Plus there are tons of fun things to do in VABeach like the beaches (obvi), the shops, there is a FANTASTIC aquarium there, go cart racing... etc, etc....
If it helps... my current vacation wishlist includes: California, Las Vegas, and Graceland... maybe not in that order BUT I think we may visit Cali next summer. ;)
Good Luck! :goodvibes

Thanks for the early congrats. I keep getting this feeling that something will happen and I'll need an extra semester to finish up. It'll be 3 years when I finish and I'm ready to be done! My degree is in Speech-language pathology so I actually need a masters to be certified and all that. Otherwise, I would definitely not have gone back to school.

Thanks for the trip advice too! We would probably go end of April or early May since that is when I get out of school. I'm kinda banking on getting a job right away (we seem to be in pretty high demand down here) so this way I can have a couple weeks off before jumping back into the real world. I know that NYC probably has the most things to do. And we spent so much time doing the really touristy stuff (statue of liberty, empire state building, etc) that I know we missed so much of the other great NY stuff. I would also love to go to Vegas but I'm just not really feeling it for my graduation trip. Cali would be awesome too but there is just so much to see there that it kind of overwhelms me thinking about where exactly to go. My uncle lives in santa barbara so we could always stay there for free but that could be more of a hassle than a good thing if you knew my uncle  Ahhh, the planning continues.

My last post reminded me of something.

Remember way back a few months ago, I mentioned that I submitted a proposal for the national convention of speech pathologists? I ended up doing at the last minute because I didn't know when the due date was?

Anyway, I should be hearing from them within the next few weeks on if I will get to present or not. They say they are being mailed mid-july but my supervisor insists he has always heard in june. So :confused3

Please send pixie dust that I hear some good news from them soon! It would be such a great opportunity to be able to go to this. Plus it means a trip to Boston in November!

well, i'm back!!! hope you guys had a wonderful weekend. i'm sooooooo tired. but i had a good visit with the fam. i always have so many people (mom/dad/sister/brother/best friend/grandparents) to see when i go home for the weekend and it's just craziness! and it seems like everyone always centers their time with me around a meal......so goodbye diet! but i didn't too awfully bad. the biggest meal i had was at pf chang's saturday night. my sister is a bartender there and gets a discount, so we always order tons of food. but then we went to decades afterwards (an 80's bar - celery may know it since she lives in nashville!) and hopefully i burned some of those calories off shaking my groove thang! ;) i also got to meet my sister's boyfriend this weekend and he was very nice....i believe i've shared stories about him with you guys and about how wonderful he is to her. i'll have LOTS of pictures to share later if you'd like to see them. i just love pictures and i guess i'm assuming that you guys do, too! if you're not interested just hit your "scroll down" button and we'll all be happy. :rotfl: oh, and there is a peep-vibe going on up there......my mom has now lost 21 pounds and my best friend (who had a baby in september) has lost 30. i know they're not peeps, but i just had to share their progress and maybe it will provide a little encouragement....IT CAN BE DONE!!!!! :thumbsup2

Our first stop will be in New Haven at the KY Railroad Museum to see Thomas the Tank Engine. It's our big surprise for our boys. They know that we are going to TN but have no idea that they will be taking a ride on Thomas. My youngest son is the Thomas fan and I've made him a gift pack with everything Thomas including a Thomas diecast, coloring book, reading book,
2 tee-shirts, & stickers.

my best friend took her 3-year-old to see thomas somewhere in north carolina about 2 weeks ago and she said it was really cool. they had some really great pictures - it looked like fun!

Count me in the tall group, I am 5'8. Also count me in the group that thinks punkin looks awesome!

thanks! you guys are too good to me. :goodvibes i actually had a couple comments from a few people this weekend who haven't seen me since march and they noticed a difference.

I didn't lose any this week! I was kind of disappointed because I thought I was on the verge of a loss after starting a new workout, but maybe in the next few weeks.

i always notice that i don't lose much weight when i first start a new workout. i think there's something to the theory of retaining acid in your muscles when they're sore and it makes you weigh more. like kat said....it's an investment and you will see the results a few days/weeks after you start a new workout routine. i'm sure you'll see results soon!!!

my DD danced tonight at our city festival and almost had to do a solo (which she would have loved) out of at least 10 girls 2 only showed but she rocked (had to share that with ya'll)
picturesect018jayedynedit.jpg
well goodnight all.

she's such a cutie! thanks for sharing. i love pictures...it makes me feel like i know my peeps better!

And the evening certainly wore Jasper out! She is SNORING right now in the kitchen so loudly that I can hear her in the living room. :rotfl:

toooooo cute!!!!! my little eli has respiratory problems (nothing serious, just snores a lot) because he had mange when he was a puppy and we had to have him dipped once a week for 13 weeks in a row. the dip was really toxic and it caused him to have mild respiratory problems. he sleeps under our bed and he usually snores so loud he wakes me up....but it's so cute!

Lunch was a salad with Newman's Own low fat sesame ginger dressing.

WELCOME!!!!!! i've been out of town all weekend so i'm just now getting around to saying that! i  newman's sesame ginger dressing. good choice! :thumbsup2

I'm looking for some suggestions. I know Disney will be the obvious choice, but I actually want to do something non-disney. Some of the possibilities so far:

i don't have any input as far as your other choices, but as for savannah, we love it. we go at least once a year for a long weekend. so if you decide on savannah, let me know because i can definitely give you some tips! ;)

celery - SUCH a good idea with the peep meet sing-along idea! count me in! i'll be at the peep meet on 9/23, but i'll be home on 9/28. just remind us cause i'll forget! i'll also have to make up some reason to be outside at that time of night by myself because i'm certainly not telling DH that i'm going outside to sing to my pretend friends on the DIS!!! :lmao:

:yay: :) :flower3: :) :yay: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yay: :) :flower3: :) :yay:

you look so young.........and skinny!!!!!! hope you had a great day!

i'm off to beddy-bye. night, peeps!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIDGE!!! :rockband: :dancer: party: :bday: :jumping1:

Sorry I am late to the party. And I see you did not save me any cake! Which is probably good. The All Star baseball diet is killing me!!

We won both our games today. So guess what? I get to go to another game tomorrow. If we win we will be District Champs. And guess what else? We are going to State in two weeks. :woohoo: :sad2: I used both smilies because that is how I feel - torn. Excited for our boys (really thought we would not make it past Districts) and tired. Baseball has totally changed our summer.

First off...it's the birthday of one of our most beloved and long-standing peeps....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FIDGE!!!

8.gif

We love ya, Brigitte!!!
Hope you have the best birthday ever!!!

Happy Birthday! I hope it's been a great day!

Shannon, I love, love, love Savannah! But to me that's a totally different trip from say the Alaskan cruise or maybe even NYC. Your choices kind of sound like a "can't miss!" Sounds like you're feeling better about getting thru it all! Yea, I'm so glad!

Punkie-glad you're back!

I'm exhausted too. We just got back from seeing Evan Almighty at the drive-in (Misty did this with her family and so I copied because it sounded like a good idea!) It really was fun!

There were some obnoxious teenagers ( like 3 or 4 carloads full) a few rows up who's parents would have been horrified at their behavior! I hope MY DS18 wasn't/isn't like that when he's away from his family! :scared1:

I'm hoping to kick it in gear this week with my weight loss efforts. I think I'm making awesome choices and am writing every single bite down. That helps! I'm amazed at how much I graze! Do any of you have that issue? I'm never really hungry when I'm mindlessly opening the pantry. It's as if the food-fairy came with a fresh selection of goodies that I may have missed the last 10 times I opened the pantry or fridge? :confused3 I need a dog shock collar to zap me every time I touch the knob to the pantry!

"la la la, I think I'll check to see what I can stuff my face with now.....ZZZZZZZAAAAAAAPPPPPPP  ...oh! Never mind!"

GOOD MORNING, ALL!!! :sunny:

I'm going off memory here so this might not take long...

PUNKIN....Glad you're back! DD got home Friday and went to NashVegas on Saturday! I KNOW! Her BFs band played at Rocket Town. And I know how those weekend visits are....seeing everybody in a short period. Very tiring....gotta come home to rest up.

WENDY....I go to that pantry a lot too. Try drinking a bottle of water or two instead. Lots of times I'm thirsty instead of hungry. How was Evan Almighty?

STACEY....I understand the mixed emotions about winning. All my friends turned down All Stars this summer. It really eats up your summer.

SHANNON....I'm a go/see/do vacationer. If you haven't been to Washington, DC, I'd to that! And VA peeps can correct me if I'm wrong but if you have a car, you could drive down to Williamsburg.

Also somepeep (MJMouse?) just told us about taking a bus from Baltimore to NYC. It's a day trip or you could take the train from DC (only about 3 hrs) and combine the DC/NYC trip??? Two birds, One stone?

Personally, I would like to see California via Highway 1 from LA to SF....or just SF and Monterey would be fine too. I would also like to visit Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard...alternately Bar Harbor.

FIDGE
....Hope it was a wonderful day. Anything to share with us about your 40th birthday? I think some folks actually believed that! :thumbsup2 Go with it!

FRAN....I think Sandy's right. Nobody cares about fidgety kids at Disney. Le Cellier and Kona are our only must-dos from last trip. This time we are trying Ohana, Narcoossee's and Wolfgang Puck Cafe too. Make sure you schedule a night for you and DH. And Fran...if this is your first trip...I would definitely join Tour Guide Mike. It's totally worth the $20ish especially for the extra help at the busy, busy time you are going.

HAVE A GREAT DAY, ONE AND ALL! :flower3:

First of all....HAPPY late BIRTHDAY FIDGE!!! Hope you had a great day!!

Dance- How'd the wedding go? Wasn't it today?
Actually it is next friday...she left town this friday to head back to Ohio (where we ae all from) for the wedding. We leave tonight.

My last post reminded me of something.

:wizard: Coming your way!

I'm hoping to kick it in gear this week with my weight loss efforts. I think I'm making awesome choices and am writing every single bite down. That helps! I'm amazed at how much I graze! I need one of those!! I do the same thing...like in the whole 30 minutes since I last checked there would be sometihng in there I want, and I am not even hungry in the first place!

BUSY weekend. Like a true prcrastinator, I spent all day yesterday finishing my sisters flowers for the wedding...one of my many talents ;) So I had to do hers, 6 bridesmaids, 4 tiny flower girl bouquets and a toss bouquet. I only had ONE of them done before I started yesterday morning  I have had the stuff for MONTHS and just kept putting it off. BUT, they are done now! She also had me decorating some flip flops for the bridesmaids for the reception, did thse Sat. None of us can wear heels all day, and she knows I am pretty handy with my trusty glue gun.

I will try to check in from my grandmothers house where we are staying, but it is dial up and I have to wait until pretty late at night to do it. I need my peeps to re-inforce my diet there though. My family loves and celebrates with food :rotfl: I am going to target this am to stock up on good snacks for the car trip. I know you are all jealous of my 18 hour drive with a 4 yr old and grouchy husband :lmao: We leave tonight after he gets off of work. We normally try to drive it straight through taking turns but I think we are planning to stop somewhere between Memphis and Nashville this time. Anybody in those towns that can recommend a place to stop that is not super pricey? We are taking highway/interstate 40 east...or is it north? Not sure, but one of those 2! :rotfl: Need to go print off the maps......

Jen....On our way home from TX a few years ago, we stopped at a (maybe?) Days Inn in Jackson, TN. It was right next to that famous buffet place with the MOST fabulous, extensive buffet I've ever seen!

Google Jackson, TN...the restaurant and surrounding shops had something to do with trains. Casey's maybe??? Anyway the hotel was clean, cheap, and had a nice buffet breakfast too.

Can you detect a theme here....buffets??
