Well, it isn't my first choice, but it will get me in and hopefully to my goal.
I worked in LA, CA schools for 16.5 years. We moved to NC 2 years ago and I have been staying at home since we moved.
I was a teacher for 12 years and a school counselor for 4.5 years in LA.
I interviewed at four schools and only got one offer. It was actually a horrible experience. I finally realized that in CA I had networked pretty well and that that was why it was so easy for me to get the jobs I wanted. Here noone knows me or the people I worked for.
Anyway, I took a teaching job for next fall. I wanted a counseling job but they are few and far between and I have heard that with budgeting issues, there may be even fewer than they thought.....so, I figured I would at least get myself networked a bit before trying to find a counseling job.
I will be working at 3, possibly 4 different schools (2 high schools and 1 middle school on the list right now), doing a pull-out program for ESL kids. I am actually really excited about it. I do have an MA in teaching ESL and many years of experience, so I do love it. I just really wanted to get back into the counseling office.
Anyway, just thought I would share. I haven't worked in NC yet and the pay and benefits are nowhere near where they should be, but they aren't as bad as they could be!
