I'm a Texan at heart!! I have family (cousins) in the DFW area, and I've been to the Grapefine Mall  PICK ME!!!

When can you get here? :yay:

Describe skills necessary to be an outstanding teacher... (quality, each child can succeed, passion for education and students.... Learning for all teach work collaboratively... implement power standards, with excitement, and a variety of techniques, raises level of achievement thru the use of a variety of techniques, to help students become LifeLong learners... effective teacher is always learning...

Sooooo, you need a little help with your edu-crap... whoops, I mean edu-speak. ;)

As Benjamin Franklin said, "Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of a fire." An outstanding educator possesses the skills and abilities required to light that fire. Foremost among these are compassion, empathy, and the ability to reach the hearts of students... for without their hearts, their minds cannot be reached. Professional educators have a passion for education and students; they themselves are lifelong learners who try to raise the standards of achievement while instilling the love of learning within their students. To be able to accomplish these goals, the educator should be skilled in classroom management and organization; furthermore, the educator should be flexible and capable of creative problem solving. Routine and structure are important in a classroom; however, the ability to take advantage of a teachable moment might provide the spark that becomes a fire within the learners.

How would you address a wide range of skills and abilities in your classroom?

Didn't catch what age group this is for, but... (btw, I've heard of U by D, but not Glasser or Bernstein so I didn't know where to put them)

Every child is unique; students have diverse learning styles, interests, family dynamics, and background knowledge. As a professional educator, I would incorporate a variety of research-based teaching strategies into my lesson plans such as the use of manipulatives, movement, visual aides, music, CLOZE notes, cooperative learning, and flexible grouping to actively engage students. Furthermore, I would using questioning techniques and various formal and informal evaluations to monitor student progress and make data-driven decisions when modifying and adjusting for the individual learner.

ATTENTION DOG LOVERS!

I just got this link on email. So cute!

TYPE IN a command and see what happens... sit, roll over, down, stand, sing, dance, shake, fetch, play dead etc. and...it's also very cute if you type in a command that's not recognized.. .!!

Make sure you type in "Kiss" too, but do it last.

Cute!

Sounds fun to me. DD LOVES the 'jungle restaurant' and I love that mall....did you know they have a Disney outlet now?? She doesnt go back to school until early Sept, but I start wokring more full time the 3rd week of August. Anytime before that works for us.

I have "training" August 7-9 and then I start back to school August 20th. Wednesdays and Fridays are best for me before then, but I can do any day if those are bad for you. How about August 1st or 15th?

My teacher friend (now a powerful staff evaluator in a different district!) Has gone off to Austria - I got the urge to apply today while sitting in the UbD class listening to these first year teachers, that dont have a clue about evaluating students (elementary btw) on "measurable" goals (rubrics) they kept using subjective termanology - it drove me crazy!!)

I love the way you speak!! Thank you for taking your time to help me!! UbD does take that approach - love Ben Franklin quote - better than the give a fish/teach to fish one! I'm going to substitute "essential questions" the UbD term for "hooking and holding kids' as in, when they want to take you off course (or as you so aptly say "teachable unplanned moments" ) we use that but get kids to forge things into the "Essential Questions" or BIG IDEAS!!

its that darn word crap - just give me the job, I'll show you what your school is missing!! ;) ;) ::yes:: ::yes::

Get this the new "superintendent-elect" after talking to me said "we should hire you" a few months ago when I discussed a few problems I noticed :rolleyes1 so today I asked if I could use her as a reference as I begin to apply :rolleyes1 she said yes... (which should be encouraging, but its not!!)

The classes I took this summer teachers got paid a grand total of $700+ (715, 725?) and I got zip!! I know where I could use that money!!

:wizard: and pixiedust: please - this is so hard for me!! I have some mild insecurities...

(and btw Dene, I truly do believe in that - I do a lot of hands on simulation type game/role playing!! ) Oh well, I'm letting my passion take hold - thanks for helping!! (I was trying to figure out how to encorporate the word passion!! you did it much better than I did!! )

Hey everyone!! Hope everyone's having a good day!! Here's a pic of dd6's dog, Maggie. She is my new walking partner!

She is part Boston Terrier & part cocker spaniel. She & dd are the best of friends!! It is so sweet, in the mornings, dd lays on the floor & Maggie comes up & lays her head right on her chest! Of course then she proceeds to "clean" Katelyn's teeth with her tongue:scared: , so maybe it's not that sweet after all!!:rolleyes1 YUCK!!!

if you have a hotmail account, be careful!!!!! my friend anna called us because she got a virus alert when checking her hotmail account and since ray's a computer nerd he always knows how to "fix" stuff like that. well, he worked on it for like an hour and couldn't figure out where the virus was. he told her he'd look at it again tomorrow. so then i go check my hotmail account just now and the same thing happens......HUGE VIRUS WARNING. and we don't have any of the same e-mails in our inboxes or folders. so it's something with hotmail. ray checked his account and the same thing happened. so if you don't have decent virus protection on your computer and you have a hotmail account, BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!! or don't check it at all for awhile!

I think there is a virus attatched to MSN messenger accounts also... one of those Phishing things!!

BE WARE!! If you get a link to check your list on who has blocked or deleted - dont go PHISH!!

Loving all the pet pix!

I love the way you speak!!

Thanks! I have been a little bit successful using edu-crap, I mean, edu-speak. My writing has helped me "get picked" for a couple of cool things. I've been selected as a presenter at local, regional, state, and national science teacher conferences (3 times national). I got a weeklong training from the Texas Space Grant Consortium and a two week NASA training thing. I also got a group of teachers in Fort Worth into a 3 year NASA program (NASA Explorer Schools, we were in the first set of schools chosen for the program... 50 in the nation and only 1 in Texas). The program got us $17,500 in grants, visits from astronauts (and the guy running Johnson Space Center at the time), LOTS of training at NASA centers, trips for students to Student Symposiums where they presented their research to NASA employees, video conferencing equipment and videoconferences with NASA scientists, on-line "challenges" where students tracked a hurricane that was hitting an island DURING a volcanic eruption and then decided the best way to evacuate residents. In those 3 years NASA paid all my travel expenses plus a stipend to go to Seattle, Houston (Johnson Space Center), Baltimore, Cocoa Beach/Orlando (Kennedy Space Center), San Jose (Ames Space Flight Center), Anaheim, Huntsville (Marshall Space Flight Center), and Houston again. I've helped a museum in New York research the effectiveness of their on-line resources and I'm currently evaluating a NASA manual for getting families involved in school via family science nights, etc.

:wave2:Dance & I also live in Texas! We both live near the DFW area... I need to try to "do lunch" with her sometime before school starts.

My in-laws live in the FW area, we come up there two or three times a year!! We will be up there in a week from today on our way to NM.

first off, the multi-quoting thing.....see that little quotation mark and plus sign next to the "quote" button. if you hit that on every post you want to quote, it will quote all of the ones you indicate when you hit "post reply". it should turn orange when you click on it.

That was so easy! Thanks

WELCOME! Where in TX are you?

Thanks!

We live in The Woodlands area. North of Houston. You are in the DFW area?? Where abouts??

Happy Birthday Stacey!!!! :rockband: party: :bday: party: :dancer: :cake: :bday: :jumping1: party: :dancer: :rockband: ]

Opps I meant to put Happy Birthday, so why not take a trip too!

Love YA:goodvibes

I just got home from youth camp today and finally had a chance to read all my birthday wishes. Thanks for the cake Fidge - you always work so hard. Thanks for all the great wishes - you guys are great friends.

IT'S A BIG BIRTHDAY FOR MINNIE MOO!
HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY, CHERYL!!!

MOOCAKE.jpg
Hoping you're off doing something special today!

HAPPY belated BIRTHDAY, CHERYL!!!
Hope you had a great day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MISTY!! Sorry I missed it.

Youth camp was a lot of work, but worth it. Our one and a half hour chapel service last night lasted over 3 hours. When we had our altar ministry at the end, most of the kids started worshipping and praying for each other. It was totally God and we just backed up and let the kids pray. It was amazing. One of those times that you pray to see happen. I think several kids went to another level spiritually. God is always faithful. I am however looking forward to my bed tonight - camp bunk beds are not cool!

I was not able to read everything. What is up with Shannon? Any more dates? What about Dene? I have told that date story to several people - still think you should get it published, Dene!

Heather, I am kind of out of the loop. Who is Ryan and what happened? Can you PM me? I will be praying for him.

My kids are still in Georgia. Feels strange to be at home without them. But tomorrow Brian and I will have a date night (way too tired tonight - he is already snoring on the couch).

After some comments from some people over the last couple of months, I've actually batted around the idea of writing a book about losing weight and coming out of my shell. My yoga instructor asked if I had been keeping a journal... well, between my emails and posts here, yes, I kinda have. Of course, all names would have to be changed to protect the innocent (and not so innocent :rolleyes1). And if I ever do write it... naked picnic guy will definitely have a chapter of his own! :lmao:

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!! :sunny:

TGIF!

Went to bed late, woke up late, gotta get ready for work.

I'll catch up later.

HAVE A GREAT, WONDERFUL, TERRIFIC FRIDAY! :thumbsup2

Sorry for being MIA guys. Rough 2 days here. Somebody stole my DD and replaced her with a really stubborn and rude little girl the past 2 days. Sort of made me wonder why I was going to do this all over again ;) Actually, it is not really her fault. My sister had her overnight because I had a bad headache that tylenol wasnt touching and she returned her tired and cranky...going on 2 days later now and we are almost back to having our sweet little girl back!

There are lots of ways to do what you are trying, but totally possible. So are you thinking you want the characters made out of something edible, or just plastic figures? There are cake stores here that sell all sort of plastic characters I could check for them for you :goodvibes (Any excuse to visit the cake store for me is a good one for me) There are ways to make them out of frosting that are pretty cool. You print the image on paper in a reverse image, cover it with wax paper and use icing to basically copy it. It is called a frozen buttercream transfer. If you are feeling brave, I can send you a link with directions. Maybe you could find a pic with all the characters together (or most of them) and do it that way. If you lived close, I would do it for you...I love a challenge!

:wizard: I will be thinking of her!

WELCOME! Where in TX are you?
I hate it when you send the kids to visit and they come back not the same--it is amazing how quick it happens.

I have "training" August 7-9 and then I start back to school August 20th. Wednesdays and Fridays are best for me before then, but I can do any day if those are bad for you. How about August 1st or 15th?
I sart back on the 1st and the kids come the 7th.
-1.6 lbs this week :yay:
Way to go!!

This would be great-Glad that you have things documented -- Naked GUY :rotfl2:

Glad that camp went well--it is amazing at how the kids cahnge in a week. Will PM you.

RYAN UPDATE--he is having what they call a mild liver rejection--just means his immune system is working. They wil start him on some newer stuff this morning. The DR's are pleased with everything and the expected this sooner. The liver is an amazing organ because it can regenerate. He will be in the hospital a little longer.

Morning Peeps! I did well this week put am not oosting my loss because it is really just losing part (not all) of the weight that I gained on my vacations. Good news is I get my 25 lb ribbon back. When I get back to where I was pre Disney and Cape Cod I'll post losses again....hopefully next Friday or the Friday after.

After a month of either gaining or staying the same, I lost 2.9 pounds this week, never to be found again. This brings me to a grand total of 31.8 pounds lost (I get my 30-pound bling back!) since the start of the year, and an uber-grand total of 55.8 pounds lost since April 2005. I am now 29.2 pounds away from my goal weight of 155.

Good luck to all on this weigh-in day! Hope to see some great looking numbers!

okay....about BB, two things i have to comment on: number one, nick looked like a gay porn star tonight and, two, to eric.....PUT YOUR COLLAR DOWN!!!!
I was thinking more prison movie character for Nick, but that hair did bug the snot out of me. I actually think he has replaced Jen as my least favorite house guest. He just seems like a slimeball to me.

OMG I can't belive I forgot what a great bunch of animals this thread has got, No WI disneyfan not you silly man! LOL!
Woof woof! :dogdance:
