DAYCARE QUESTION-

I know we have some moms here who use and/or own their own home daycares. I met with a lady tonight who I loved and she wants to give me a deposit to hold her kids place until she will need me-Aug 20th. Now, with my surgery and everything I have going on it is for the best that she wants to wait to start. However, if she should back out I want to make sure the 'deposit' would be enough to either make her think twice or cover my then having to find another family. Any clue what is standard? One weeks pay, 2 weeks, a month? I have NO clue! Any tips you guys can give would be much appreciated! This working for myself thing is all so new to me. She lives in the neighborhood and our DD's are only 2 mos apart in age, so they will go to school together. It seems like a perfect fit. She also has a newborn little boy who will be 3 mos when she starts with me. I love babies

I am still watching the other 2 kids I was before but I think I may be 'letting them go' sooner than later. The older one is really difficult and somewhat violent. So far only with his sister, but it is probably only a mater of time before he is comfortable enough with my DD and he does something to her. We have talked about it, done time outs, the mom and grandmother supposedly discuss it with him too...no change, if anything it is getting worse. He starts school in the fall and the younger one is no problem for the most part, so I was trying to stick it out. I can feasibly do the younger one and the new family at the same time, but I still have to think about if it is worth it or not. Decisions, decisions!

This isn't the same BUT...when I move my horse to a new stable I have to put 50% of the monthly board down to hold the spot until whenever I get there. Then they apply that deposit to my first month's board. Maybe that helps a teeny, tiny bit. :confused3

hey, everybody! just wanted to say hello. i won't be around much tomorrow - i'm going to six flags with my sister. fun!!?!??? i think. we shall see!

hope everyone had a great day!

Is it just me or is that tennis guy from Age of Love creepy?? :scared1: I didn't watch the show..just going on the scary pics I keep seeing online and in magazines. No thank you!!

I got my hair trimmed tonight. Ugh. she went too short in the front and I feel like a boy. Lovely. At least it will grow fast. I just hope my WDW pics still come out cute. It's about 1/2 inch shorter then usual in the "bang" area. It doesn't sound like much but when you already have a short hairstyle it makes a difference. I think in a week or so it should be at the right length. Then I will measure it so I can tell her next time how short it is when it's "perfect!!"

I watched age of love - yes, he was creepy... but I do like Mark conseulos!! and the whole idea of 40's vs 20's... that's creepy too... or maybe just those "contestants"....

nothing new here...

oh, and 45 days to cancel a pkg - but you can always apply it to a new ressie... (reminds me of that joke what does mgm stand for? Mickey's Got your Money")

OK, I still need to catch up! I didn't get nearly as much done tonight as I intended. I did just post an update on my trip report though. ;) Hope all you Peeps are having a great day! :goodvibes

Actually, I guess it sort of does. By that logic it would be 2 weeks. I will call some local places tomorrow and see what their policy is, but I figure it would take me at least 2 weeks to replace their spot with another family. I am still a bit nervous after getting burned with that last family. I dont want to leave myself open to be burned like that again

I am sure it is fine!! And you have a few days for it to grow a little bit too. Every day helps, right?;) Isnt it funny that is the thing you are worried about? Gotta have good Disney pics, especially for your honeymoon!! I would be the same way. I am nervous to get a trim before my sisters wedding for fear of the same thing. I need to color it too, and I am afraid it will turn out orange or something :rotfl:

I would get 2 weeks or a months deposit-whichever you are comfortable asking for. Also, only half of the deposit would be refundable if she decides not to use your services. Make sure it is in writing and you both sign and have a copy. Also, be sure to get paid up front for any work you will be doing. I hate not getting paid:headache: so my policy is "no pay-no stay".

Yeah..like Jeriber said, non-refundable. You should write something up as well. I was hired at my current job last May but did not start until Sept. I never got anything in writing and hindsight, I should have. Not that anything went wrong but it's good to have.

I hope everyone has a great day! I am supposed to take the kids I watch to a "neighborhood end-of-school party" today. All the rich stay at home moms are throwing it. The ones that kinda look down on me for just being the "hired help." My boss told me I did not have to go but that's not fair to the kids. Hopefully it rains like they say and we don't have to stay. Plus, the baby naps at 1:30 and it starts at 12. So if I show up at 12:30 and then leave at 1:30...how convenient. My boss told me to make sure they don't try and "disappear" inside the house and get me to watch the kids. If that happens I am out of there!!! I hate rich, snotty people. :headache:

I know to hold our dacycare spot we paid $100. I would think that you would need to ask for more than that. Good luck.

Good morning all. The builders are not here this week so all my family gets to sleep in. Hopefully little man will wake up in a better mood than when he went to bed. Woke up from nap and was whiney (not like him) until he went back to bed last night. Getting ready for work. Just noticed my ticker say only 12 days until beach and then I realized I had nothing to replace it with once it is over. After the baby we are not planning any trips at least until next summer and that would only be to the beach. No Disney for at least 2 years :sad2:

Must get going. Hope everyone has a good day. It is 70% chance of rain today--yuck, but we need it.

Good morning peeps!
Here's hoping my day is less stressful (and skinnier) than its been!

I nannyed through college. Now, it is a little different because I took them on trips and stuff but I charged a lot and because the family liked me they always paid up. I think it depends on the going rate in the area as well, but for example, I would have no problem asking for 2 mos. If the parents thinks its crazy they will more often than not tell you instead of leaving you high and dry. That being said, you should def draw something up to sign. Some kind of commitment document that you sign and she signs. I give the families I nanny for in the summer (this is my last summer  ) all sorts of stuff. From liability paperwork so she can't sue me if I ever got into a car accident with them, to an outline of what I expect to get paid for what days. Some years I added stuff, some years I took it away. They never cared about that either. But at least this way if they do bail you have breathing room.

GOOD MORNING, PEEPS! :sunny:

Off to work today! I told DS last night that he gets to go to Mother's Day Out today. Which he squarely refused. (As if he has a choice!)

DD13 is off to vocal camp again today. She asked for a solo for Friday's concert. Well she got one....and it's in Italian! :scared1: It's the song that Hilary Duff sang in Raise Your Voice.....Carpe sumpm.

So off to shower and drag the little dude down to church with me today.

Everybody have a wonderful day!

Dance when my kids were in daycare I had to pay the full monthly fee throughout the summer to hold their place for the fall. This was paid whether they went or not. I agree with everybody else. Do a written contract. However you are going to ask to be paid- monthly, biweekly, or weekly, get at least that much as a deposit. If it is weekly paid then the deposit is non-refundable, if you are going to ask to be paid more than weekly - if she changes her mind then refund 1/2 of the deposit with a 2 weeks notice of her change after that - no refund of deposit. People who do in home daycare give up a lot and I think need some guarentee in their pay.

Hoping for some rain here today. I love the pool but it is so dry here the grass is not only dead but burnt black in some places.

Holding steady on my weight loss. So far 1 pound since last week.

I am very familiar with that feeling....'the hired help'. There are lots of people that treat their nannies that way in my area. I think they do it to look good in front of the other rich moms actually. :sad2:

ARIES- did you start Alli yet? I am hoping for an update!

Thanks for all the advice too! I know UM does this in her house...where is she??? I am going to call some places in the area and see what they say. I dont think a month is unreasonable really, but if nobody else in this area does that then I dont want to scare her off by making her think all I want is her cash, you know? I found the other kids I watch in less than a week, but I was more or less desperate and took the first offer that came to me because I was in a bind. Dotn want to ever be in that place again, so a months pay would make sure that didnt happen. 2 weeks is ok too I guess.....off to look for a contract/agreement to use. I know some of the nanny sites I was on had some.

I have run an in home daycare for the last 10 years.

I don't have registration fees. I don't have deposits either.

I believe that I should be paid for when I actually watch your child.

The economy is so horrible here in Michigan.

I tell parents up front, that I can never guarantee a spot for anyone in the future. It's a chance we all take. I recently had 4 families lose their jobs and they had to pull their kids out until they found new jobs. This was a 4 month process. The spots were available once they found new ones, but how can people afford to hold spots with unemployment? The phone just ain't ringing. I ran an add for 2 straight months without a single call.:sad2:

If a deposit is absolutely necessary, I would try to be as reasonable as I could. I think a week or two at the most is more than enough.

Today is ups and downs so far...

Had a GREAT moment when I was walking into work today... one of the guys that I talk to sometimes in another group was walking in behind me, and he says, "Wow... you have lost a TON of weight." Made my day.

Down moment... frackin Disney shopping waits until the DAY AFTER I order to do $5 shipping. I have been waiting, and waiting, hoping for a better discount, and finally gave up yesterday and ordered. :headache: I could have saved $7.50!! Plus DH was pissed because I got him XXL trunks instead of XL. Anyone have any experience with Disney men's trunks and sizing?

Currently munching on my cup of dry apple jacks that I bring to work for bfast, and drinking water. We get a cheat night on Saturday, a real one, and I am so looking forward to it.

Mornin - the heat and humidity broke!! YIPpee - guess I'd better get out there and run for 20 - 30 min!

Home Daycare - google is your friend! Here's I site I found for you...
http://childfun.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=334
Also when I worked in Daycare at our local Park district there was all kinds of free resources in our local county board office - give a call... the licensing boards also provide lots of resources too!!

Kat - call, call, call - complain in a nice way, schmooze, and I'll bet you'll get that $7.50 credited!!

off to surf!

I'm here!

It's MEET WINKERS day!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

We're going to Olive Garden, me, Winkers and Spongie.

I managed to get the BEST babysitter for a few hours!

NO KIDS!!!!!

As for home daycare, I also don't have a registration fee or mandatory deposit. But, I don't hold spots without payment because I only have 4 spots and need the money from each. So far, I haven't had any problems.

I don't charge for MY vacations or if I'm sick. But if they are sick, they still pay. They get one free week's vacation, if on consecutive days (not one day here, one day there). I only have ONE mom who pays but she pays late. Which she's pregnant and leaving anyway, so I dont really gripe.

I take all national holidays off. If there's a no-mail holiday, I'm off. So far that hasn't been a problem either.

It's really good money. Well, better than if I had to pay for daycare for 3 kids.
I charge $400 per month per child. So if I need more income I can get more kids. But 4 is my happy limit!

Congrats on the compliment! Hopefully I can get my act together and start doing some real losing soon!
I agree with whoever posted earlier-def call Disney Shopping... I have done this before. With a little complaining you should be able to get the credit. I feel like I fowl up everyday so a cheat night is out of the questions but you have a great attitude about it! And I am sure you deserve one! :goodvibes
