You can leave notes for Jordan:

1. Do not set microwave on fire.
2. No wild parties.
3. No ordering Nabs off Ebay

(I threwed away the microwave. It had a fire HOLE in it)

I 've had to fight my kids off for MY Nabs! They're MINE! For the trip. I need my strength!

Every time Jordan walks in the room, I say something like, "You know we dont use soap on the pizza stone, riiiiight?" or, "No matter how late you are running, you need to feed the dogs" and "You'll remember to LOCK the door, right?"

If ANY one comes to my house in the next 5 days, my cell phone will ring from 5 different neighbors...and he knows it. :cool2:

The boys are conflicted. They spent time with a Native Indian Tribe in upper Wisconsin, they learned a respectful dance similiar to what the Chief does. (and the NCAA better go after the Florida Seminoles, is all I got to say, that is a slap in our face as far as I'm concerned!!)

Dawn Turner Trice wrote in the Tribune... (she is an alum of Univ of IL btw, and African American, so I thought she had an interesting perspective) "He to me was a minstrel in symbolic red face. He didnt dance around displaying the contributions of Native Americans. ... Later some of the stereotypes (of Hollywood movies etc decades ago) (oh she says because of the Hollywood image of Indians the "Indian mascots, logos and names worked for sports teams, it helped characterize the teas as threatening, capable of annihilating the opponent,) the stereotypes were toned down, but it didnt remove the sting. Supporters hoped it would trick Native Americans and others into believing themascots has value. Its like they were saying "never mind the details, we know better than you Dont be so touchy" she goes on to say "What's heartening about all of this is that it wasnt only people of color who found Chief offensive. He has his detractors among many white students as well. and then "Remember the often irreverent comedian the late Moms Mabley? Once, after soe rather objectionable man had died, she was told she shouldnt speak ill of the dead. so she said "OK then, he's dead. Good"...

I can understand how she is relating the offensive stereotypes. and my older son has a problem with how people are being treated that have an opinion that is against the Chief... that's what is upsetting him the most.

also, for the tribe in upper Wisconsin, they call themselves "Indians" they understand and know they are "Native to America"

Well, it is over now. Chief has danced his last dance. :sad1:

How old is your son, and (sorry if I'm nosey) do you like the girlfriend?

Hi Everyone!

Please pray for my husband's family. His aunt is dying and her children are taking it really hard. Her lung cancer is in its last stage and about two weeks ago she developed pneumonia. Needless to say the pneumonia became her death warrant. She is in an unresponsive state and is being given morphine every two hours. I'm on my way back to nursing home to be with the family. Please pray for her. I hate to see her suffer. :sad1:

Fran

I'm so sorry, of course you and your family will be in my prayers. Peep Prayers are Powerfull! I know because everyone helped me when I went thru something similar!:grouphug:

AWWWWW! They are so cute.

GOOD MORNING, PEEPS! :sunny:

Got my hair cut yesterday so not much time to chat. Gotta go fool around with the "do" so not to look like an idiot at work today. I have been out of the hair "floofing" business since first child in '89 and mostly wear my hair long/pulled back. This guy put layers in so I'm a little worried.

FRAN.....Prayers for your family.

STACEY.........How's the head???

DD took a late nap so she is raring to go still. HELP ME.
Sorry, Jen.....I had to laugh. Been there many times.
I thought about doing a CD or DVD slideshow set to music as a small Mother's Day gift for my mom and my DSIL with tons of pictures when me and my DB were little to the present for my mom and obviously pics of my niece and nephew and family for DSIL. BUT I don't know how to do that. Anyone have any ideas to step me in the right direction?
My brother, the quiet computer geek, somehow made off with my mother's old family photo album and scanned all the pictures to make a power point presentation of us growing up for my mom for mother's day a few years ago. It was set to a song by Celine Dion (For all those times you stood by me....) "Because you loved me" maybe? Anyway, the last slide on the CD said "happy mother's day". I still cry every time I watch it and I'm sure my mom does too. The music is so beautiful and appropriate with the pictues. Now a power point is not hard to do. He just used a black background and had each photo fade in and out. Not sure how to lay the music on top of it. But I'm sure your mom would LOVE that. I also love the idea of the ring. It sounds like a ring that I wear all the time. Solid gold band with 3 stones...red/blue/green. I'm sure a custom jeweler would make it. I'd be afraid of what they would charge. Could you give her a mother's ring (you and DB) this year and maybe a grandmother's ring to match a few years down the road when families are complete?
If ANY one comes to my house in the next 5 days, my cell phone will ring from 5 different neighbors...and he knows it. :cool2:
HA!!!! I had all my nosey neighbors watching the house when I left DD17 and DH here and took the little kids to the beach this summer. Good plan! ONE MORE SLEEP.....Then the drive........THEN some family fun and togetherness. Supposed to be gorgeous in Anaheim this weekend! Take more crappy video so we can relive it with ya. Have a great time!!!
CUTE PUPPY and her buddy's mighty cute too! We had a blonde cocker when I was a kid. All I can say is AWWWWW!

HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERYONE!:flower3:

I hate this computer it never works right.

Hey all just checking in.

I have been working in Minneapolis a lot lately. I have had the opportunity to spend some time with Dizneydawn's family and go to her son Treyner's soccer game. It was a good time except for the fact it is so freaking cold here. I have been assured by the eskimos though that it gets warmer in July and August (they say it is very unusual if it is not at least -12 degrees by that time of year)

Ok well I have to run again. See everyone next time. Same bat time, same bat channel

Man, that ring makes the one I bought my wife look like it came out of a Cracker Jack box.

OOOOOhhhhhh!!!! I love the Fish Fry thing! I never knew about it until I started dating my DBF (he is from Wisconsin). :goodvibes We don't do those kinds of things down South - atleast not on a large scale like they do in the Midwest. It is so cool! They figured out a way to turn a not so good/fun thing (can't eat meat on Fridays) into a really cool thing - FRIDAY FISH FRY!!!
Yep, Friday Fish Fries are huge around here. In fact, we are heading to a local Catholic Church tomorrow for the first one of the year. But around here, it isn't just for Lent. Almost every restaurant here has Friday Fish Fries every Friday of the year. The most popular is Perch, but you can also get Cod or Blue Gill (my personal favorite).

My thoughts and best wishes are with you and your family.

WI_Disney: I hate that St. Bernard! Last summer I had a VERY frightening experience with my standard poodle. Our neighbors have 2 german shepherds who are kept locked in a cage in the garage all day and only let outside to do their business for about 5 minutes and then back inside they go. Well, he was out of town and his crazy girlfriend decided to take both dogs (who probably have never been on a leash) and her 4 yr old for a walk. And they were right outside my house when I opened the door to take my dog out. I tried to make it back in but no luck. BOTH dogs broke free from their leashes and ran towards us. I was trying to block the bites and protect my baby (who is 50 lbs FYI) from these meanies but she still managed to get a few bites in and I got a puncture on my finger because I got in the way. These dogs were actually partway in our house during this whole thing! Anyway, the girlfriend finally comes over to get her 2 dogs off my dog. Turns out she was tending to her daughter because this little peanut of a 4 yr old was holding one of the dogs on a leash while sitting in the stroller. When the dog bolted, she flew out of the stroller and hit her head. The mom tried to make me feel bad about it. But I'm not usually very sympathetic to stupidity :sad2: Anyway, my dog had to have some sutures but she is fine now. My point is that there are leash laws most everywhere I think. All it takes is an anonymous phone call to animal control or the police. They will probably just get a fine the first time - its not like they will take the dog away. Hope Molly has less eventful walks from now on!
I get very angry when I hear about irresponsible dog owners like that. Even if your dog doesn't have a history of this sort of behavior, they are still wild animals at heart. And they can snap at any time.

How adorable!!! To tie back to my Saint Bernard story, here is a recent picture of Molly.

Molly.jpg

Because of the Saint Bernard incident, we decided to change things up a bit last night. We are building a house across town, so we decided to walk around our new neighborhood instead. After we walked, we drove the route we took and it ended up being .8 miles. Unfortunately, we were only able to get one lap in before it got too dark and cold. We came across a couple dogs, but they were all on leashes. So besides Molly having a grand old time splashing in puddles and hopping around in the snow, it was a very unadventurous walk.

Oh, and I have spoken to my wife about joining us here, but she respectfully declined. She told me to pass on any good tips or advice that I get, but that she gets all the support she needs from me and her friends at work. And I know how stubborn she is (almost as stubborn as I am), so it didn't pay to argue.

Well I made a CD last night and OMG I sweat! It was great fun, how did I survive dancing the night away! I shaked it and I think I breaked it too!!!

If anyone would like my list of burning songs! Let me know! Wow it was fun though!

I can't wait to get through the whole Cd and not be aching! Have a happy day! DS went to school and I am doing the 2 today, stomach is still doing flips!

Happy Thursday!

WI Disney Fan:
Seems to me, a St. Bernard could take little Molly's whole head in it's mouth! I am glad she is ok and no worse the wear from this experience.

I knew a woman whose Golden Retriever did the same thing with a family walking by, and it actually killed the little dog! :scared1: I couldn't believe it when she refused to have the dog put down since "this was an isolated incident!" How stupid is that! She has 4 kids, one who was 3 at the time, and didn't even think about the fact the dog could turn on them possibly!

Don't get me wrong...I am a dog person, have 2 of my own, but if one of them was mean enough to kill a small dog, you bet I would put them down out of fear of it happening again! (OK...rant over.)

Make your visits unannounced and at several different times of the day. All three of my children were raised in daycare. I was "EXPELLED" :woohoo:
from the first one because I asked too many questions that the director thought I was harrassing her staff. All I wanted to know was why my 18 month old was in timeout in a highchair and how long she had been there or if I was told of an accident (a cut or a scrape) no one could explain it - it always happened when someone else was on watch and now that person was not available. So being expelled probably was worth it. :thumbsup2

Our next try at daycare was advertised as "loving and Christian" - the facility was beautiful, brand new, best toys, very, very clean, Beka curriculum- teachers required to wear dresses- it looked good on the surface- BUT:

My kids always came home hungry- I mean starving- I couldnt understand why. They were being served breakfast, hot lunch, and an afternoon snack. Well, lunch was something like 3oz milk, 1/2 slice bread and 1/2 meat pattie. After the children drank their 3oz milk they were only allowed water. Snack was 3oz juice(koolaid) and 2 cookies. My kids were 2yr and 5 yr at the time. I didnt know this was the menu until a former teacher told a friend of mine.- she stated that her reason for leaving this center was due to the "abuse of the children"

The final straw:
I came in unannounced. And found the teacher tying a child to a chair for time out. They were using an assistive device designed for children with disabilities to aid them to sit upright in the chair. This wasnt my child but it could have been. When I questioned the procedure, I was told that the director purchased the chair restraint and instructed the teachers to use it if the children would not sit in the chair during their timeout. I exploded! And told her that this is an inappropriate use of timeout. (Im a pediatric nurse by the way)

After calling several of my friends who also used the center, we discovered that our toddler children were imitating the timeout procedure by tying their dolls and stuffed animals to chairs- interesting that more than one child was imitating the behavior. Leads me to believe that it happened alot. One mother arrived to find her child locked in the dark bathroom for so called timeout. He took forever to potty train- wonder why?

Needless to say- We shut this center down with word of mouth. The Department of Human Resources stated that they could not do anything because there had been no "physical injury" i.e. no child was mamed or died.

I did find suitable daycare. The center was older. The toys were second hand and well loved with play. Teachers dressed casual and were often seen in the floor playing with the children. I felt welcome at anytime. And the teachers could give me written reports of my childs day or more often took time to share with me personally something from their day.

All this said- just be careful. I learned the hard way. My children are 10,15and 18 now- I dont think they are damaged- well, maybe that 18yo male:rotfl: I tell any new mother I can my story- not to scare you but to make you aware so you can make the best decision for your child.

Peeps, Oprah is on Bob Greene and Weight Loss -

If you dont commit to the exercise then you DONT want to lose weight

Scary - 30 min 5 days a week exercise - anyone

Oprah says - I hated exercise ten years ago, I hated it yesterday, I hated it this morning. I LOVE when its over!! If there was a magic way, I would know it, and I would tell y'all about it. I hear... "I'd do anything to lose the weight" well, will you get up early to exercise? will you commit to 5 days a week? WILL you do ANYTHING? Dont lie to yourself, if you want to lose weight you have to move, if you wont move, you will not lose,

now she's talking about the weight again, wow...
