My child had a 4th grade teacher once that sent home some project instructions- report and tri-fold poster etc. but at the bottom of the sheet of paper was written "projects must be good"

(I know I'm probably the kind of mom that you teacher types cringe when you see me coming so I apologize in advance)

I sent the instruction paper back to school with the reply:

If projects MUST BE GOOD- then do it yourself. Otherwise it will look like a 4th grader did it.

My job is to make the materials available and guide the homework- not do the work.

Just my take on the issue.

3/5 of my house is sick. DS9 has missed 3 days of school and I have missed 2.5 days of work. That means less money for the Mouse.

I was thinking of you today! Are we there at the same time? I can't remember. I'm home with a sick kid today too. Lot's of that going on around here lately, and because I'm self employed, if I'm not working there is no money coming in from my job! I can do some stuff from home, but not nearly as much as I can get done at my office. Luckily we got annual passes last year, knowing we were going this spring, so at least I don't have to buy park passes! Things are tight tho. I did luck out in that I called our dental insurance to see when they were sending me a check for 2 DDs orthodontia. They said it will go out next week. $2300. Got 2300 last year and the remaining 2300 next week. Of course 2 sets of braces cost me $11,000!!!! But luckily it's paid monthly. We started braces payments a month before the car payment was done.

Yes, we will be there about the same time. We are there 3/30-4/7. I was looking at your ADR's and thinking we are just going to miss each other some days. I only know of about 5 DISers who will be there the week before Easter. If that's the case, then who the heck has booked all those rooms?

Okay...so I have been in a crazy whirlwind for the past week and just got caught up on people..HELLO NEW MAN!!!...places... Vegas, Disneyland etc...and Romantic Movies.

Here is an abbreviated version of my week in a wrap.

DH - Chad finds out on Thursday (15th) that his paycheck is double...we at first do a and then find out...his company illegally cheated Chad and other Technicians out of thousands of dollars last year. Long story..but the gist is they did not pay them at Union Wages through a contract from a local school Dist. Thought they could get away with reg wages, that their employyes would not know (they didn't) and pocket the $10 extra an hour per employee. Dept. of Labor is involved, state big wigs and lawers already.

So they tried to hide a portion of what they owe him in his last paycheck. Does not come close to what they owe him...plus...thehours he worked for other contracts...they cut his wage in 1/2. So they are giving out of 1 hand and stealing out of the other. Legally they can not hire him at $20 an hour and then pay him $10 because they are stued. We know that...they know that...but when this may get resolved or if he will have a job tomm. is another story. Beyond stressfull.

Had a great week w/ Tupperware. Started a new girl on Sunday and got her 4 new recruits herself plus plenty of datings so she is so excited! Super stressed though because Fri. is my deadline and I have a chunk to go.

Last but not least...yesterday I stepped on a blade that is from a food processor Tupperware has. My cat jumped up in my office on a rack of extras...things fell...I went to throw said cat out and stepped on this blade that is an inch wide and 4 inches long. It was on it's side and went completely in. Hurt like you cannot even imagine, bled like crazy and after the hospital visit w/ Dr. McDreamy again, stitches and tetnus shot I am mobile. Hopping mobile because it hurts so bad to try and walk. It is on the left side of my left foot. Note to self...lose weight because flopping fat when hopping = not so much attractive.

I am going to go pick up Carsyn and maybe we will have to shoot a pic to you guys! It is gross but you have to laugh. The luck I have is huge. Chad thinks I need to be put in a bubble. He is not kidding. Stop laughing. I so do not need a bubble. Would it make my butt look big?

Dawn - Wow! What a week you have had! I hope you are on the uphill swing now. Sounds like you've had enough for a while! That blade sounds super painful!

OK, I need a little help here. I ate a cookie earlier. That's not a huge deal. I didn't have a morning snack, and it was my afternoon one. BUT the cookies are sitting on the empty desk next to mine! And more have appeared! And now I want another! I mustn't!

Lynda NOTHING tastes as good as THIN feels!! Step away from the sugar!!! (side note - how are you feeling about tonight? Bittersweet? The more we read the more confused the issue of the Chief is, of course being scouts, and having Native American blood in our veins, we love the Chief... but an article in the Chicago Post Tribune made me feel ashamed!! I still went out and bought sweatshirts for everyone with the Chief on them - and DS went and bought us more Chief stickers for the car!!

OT--but I know you guys will give your opinions in regard to daycare vs. somone. I have noclue what daycare is going to cost for two kids and was wondering how much you would offer a reliable person to watch kids in your own home. All I would ask is that they would watch kids and then tidy up after them. No cooking except for kids lunch or cleaning. Just trying to figure out what to do. THanks.

Speaking as someone who worked in the Daycare industry... Good Luck. I found a HUGE difference in quality and care in a "For profit" daycare vs a "NOT for profit daycare" usually Park Districts have not for profit daycares, but not all of them have full day daycare - the "FOR profit" center I worked in the tales I could tell you would make your hair curl - they would show off but good when parents were being courted, but when no parents were around, to make a bigger profit, it comes from somewhere, toys, paper supplies etc... DO look for lesson plans... look for NAEYC accredition (National Association for the Education of Young Children - they'll have a website!!) DO know you get what you pay for - and truly, when you think of your most prescious angels, dont you feel they deserve to be cared for by the best? I needed money, so I needed to be with my ds, so I went to work in the Daycare -

For someone to come in your home I would strongly reccommend a Nannycam - again, to protect those that have no voice!!

My goodness, you've had it bad! Hope you feel better soon!

um nope, not from this teacher anyway - I know its been awhile since I taught 4th grade, and 5th grade (oh and one year at 3rd!! I get around!! lol) You're exactly right - I no longer have the gumption to tell teachers what I feel - it always turns around and bites my kids in the rear - they get "hurt" when I call the meannies out!!

I hate my body!! (insert vomit smiley here!)

Well, the weather is so gorgeous (I can relate to WI Dude! and why isnt your dw joining us btw!! ) I decide I should try to train for my 1/2 marathon (Ok stop !! I get it, it does seem rediculous to me too!) my pants are falling down, my ankles hurt, and I slip on the dang icy patch... my legs feel, watery woozy like...

I almost finished the 5K portion of the route - no worse for the wear - but I did take a short cut - ended up only doing 2 miles!! I had my ipod on (RESPECT, Kokomo Beach Boys, Clay Aiken, some fast movin stuff - I like to have one playlist for a fast beat to run to!!)

Ok, since I made it home first - I get to tell you guys. I went to a Kickboxing class at the gym tonight with Dismom and Harley. We had to do this one kick forward kick back move and as I leaned down to kick back, Dismom's foot kicked back and breezed my nose!

She goes "I felt your nose on my foot!" I said, "Well I felt your foot on my now!" We all started laughing and got all of course.

Then after the class we were doing abs and what not in a little side room. I was doing over / unders with Harley. Well she went up and over and dropped the medicine ball on my head!

I am starting to think these two have it out for me!!!

That's hilarious!!! Too bad you don't have it on video, you could win some money!

I am posting my totals for yesterday now. I am so behind! I DID use my exercise ball last night! I think it was 25-30 minutes. One of the weights that is attached by resistance bands broke, so I had to improvise. I think you can buy just the ball weights. I will have to look and see if they have the loops to clasp onto the bands on them. Anywho, here's the food part...

Well, I only have about 40 minutes left to resist those cookies, and I know I can do it! As for tonight, I am so sad! I grew up about 40 minutes from here, and the chief has been around for about 80 years, I think. I too have native american blood in my veins (not a lot, but some), and I LOVE Chief! I will NOT be changing my location here in my avatar as this will always be the land of CHIEF to me. I truly don't understand the issue with him. He is not a mascot, and the half-time performance is meant to be very respectful. There are many other college and professional teams that have native american "mascots" who are treated with far less respect IMO. I bought Josh and I Chief shirts yesterday, and the store was selling plain black T-shirts. Apparently people are going to wear black for the second half of the game tonight. I will be changing into my chief shirt when I get home from work. I am getting a little teary just typing about it, just like I do each time I see the half time performance. Very bittersweet indeed! How are the boys feeling about it?

The boys are conflicted. They spent time with a Native Indian Tribe in upper Wisconsin, they learned a respectful dance similiar to what the Chief does. (and the NCAA better go after the Florida Seminoles, is all I got to say, that is a slap in our face as far as I'm concerned!!)

Dawn Turner Trice wrote in the Tribune... (she is an alum of Univ of IL btw, and African American, so I thought she had an interesting perspective) "He to me was a minstrel in symbolic red face. He didnt dance around displaying the contributions of Native Americans. ... Later some of the stereotypes (of Hollywood movies etc decades ago) (oh she says because of the Hollywood image of Indians the "Indian mascots, logos and names worked for sports teams, it helped characterize the teas as threatening, capable of annihilating the opponent,) the stereotypes were toned down, but it didnt remove the sting. Supporters hoped it would trick Native Americans and others into believing themascots has value. Its like they were saying "never mind the details, we know better than you Dont be so touchy" she goes on to say "What's heartening about all of this is that it wasnt only people of color who found Chief offensive. He has his detractors among many white students as well. and then "Remember the often irreverent comedian the late Moms Mabley? Once, after soe rather objectionable man had died, she was told she shouldnt speak ill of the dead. so she said "OK then, he's dead. Good"...

I can understand how she is relating the offensive stereotypes. and my older son has a problem with how people are being treated that have an opinion that is against the Chief... that's what is upsetting him the most.

also, for the tribe in upper Wisconsin, they call themselves "Indians" they understand and know they are "Native to America"
