DH wants to have chicken and dumplings for dinner. I'm all for it but I get frustrated when my dumplings all disappear. I make the Bisquick recipe. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? What do I need to do to find dumplings at the end of the rainbow?

Go to the grocery store and get Ms. Annie's in the red package. They taste JUST like the ones my Grandmother used to roll out and spend so much time making.

Everyone RAVES over my dumplings, trust me, get them.

Just add a bit less water. I make the Bisquick dumplings all the time and if they are too soft to start they will break up. Also, when the liquid is boiling make sure it is just boiling and not really going. Then we you put the lid on for the last 10 mins, make sure the flame is very low.

Good luck!...hmm....I may have to make dumplings now! :rotlf:

Thanks. I like those but my family prefers the bisquick kind.

I will try to make them dryer and I suspect that I have too hard a boil. Will try to cut it down.

They do. DH's grandmother taught me (well, not really "taught me" because she hated me, but I watched her and learned the "secret" recipe)to make chicken and rolled dumplings. They are awesome, but Ms. Annie's taste exactly the same!
However if you prefer to make them from scratch, I don't use bisquik. Just take about 3 cups of flour (self rising) and 1 cup of the broth that you cooked the whole chiken in. Mix to form a dough. It should be firm but not too dry/ not too sticky. If its too sticky add more flour a little bit at a time. Roll out to about 1-4 inch, cut into strips and then into squares. Drop them into gently boiling broth and cook for about 20 minutes.

mine would do the same thing, so I started to make sure I rolled them into a ball and they hold up together better.
