Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Please come back and share your thoughts as well. I am curious to see what you have to say
They have made at least one change since last weekend. If you need to use the restroom, a CM will escort you into the building to use the one inside. No more going down the ramp!
The short version of my review/opinion is that I wouldn't recommend booking it. I had low expectations going in and they did meet my expectations, but I did have fun because I went with a group of people (we had 13) and some of us brought more food. So, we had many types of gourmet cheeses and crackers and some nuts that we provided in addition to the dessert box. We had our own area of the white couches. It was very nice to have our own little section and our own little picnic. That said, in spite of having a good time, I don't think any of us would book it again. Read on if you want the long version.
The fireworks were canceled, which wasn't a surprise to me because I thought it was a bit windy up there and it surely was more windy higher up. We had live music from the band in Tomorrowland on and off. We couldn't see the band, but we could hear them. They had the games mentioned in the video and some light sabers, which seemed to be very popular. I know during the week is no live music and no chance for fireworks. On the weekend, the live music and maybe fireworks would be a nice touch.
Our issues with food and drink - I think most of us read the reviews and knew what to expect, but a couple of us were surprised and disappointed that there weren't any choices for decaf hot beverages. They had coffee, hot chocolate and 2 types of tea bags - both with caffeine. I think an evening event should provide both decaf coffee and tea. We expressed our dismay and were told that this was the first night anyone asked for decaf and they had been waiting for people to start asking before they started to supply it. That may help people in the future, but those of us who don't want a lot of sugar or caffeine stuck with water. Which brings me to the next issue - the food.
We knew it was a dessert box and saw it online, etc, etc. One person in our group called and asked if there was a no sugar option or a less sugar option and was told no. We had one request in for a gluten free box and when saw what she got, we thought the CM on the phone could have at least suggested that. The gluten free box had the same grapes, but more cheese, carrots and celery with dipping sauce, and it looked like rice cakes, a mickey shaped jello jiggler and some gummy treats. I can't remember what else, I just remember we were all coveting her carrots and celery. Several of us would have ordered a gluten free box if we knew it came with veggies. At least with WOC dessert party, I have filled up on the cheese and bread.
I tried all the desserts and only ended up eating the chocolate one. I didn't find any of the others worth eating and I wouldn't order the chocolate one if ever given a choice to order it again. In other words, it was the best in the box, but not something I'd recommend to anyone. With that said, I usually don't go gaga over the desserts at Disney. I find them to be very pretty to look at, but not worth the calories to eat it. The cheese moon rocks thing lacked flavor.
The nice touches - we had Mickey and Minnie come by. I realize this could be worth the cost of admission for some people. When my oldest was a toddler, she loved Mickey so much that it would have been worth it to us to book this for the 3 of us to just to watch her have fun with Mickey. They don't advertise the characters and I hope it isn't a temporary thing. We were told there would be a photopass person, but there wasn't. The CMs did take pictures with our own phones when asked. I felt like the characters spent a reasonable amount of time with us, more than what I've experienced at the character breakfasts. I didn't even notice, but they stayed and played Jenga for a while. I thought they were gone, but someone pointed that out and I thought that must have been very exciting for the few kids at the event. There were only a couple kids last night.
We gave a lot of verbal feedback/suggestions. I think our reasonable requests should come soon, which was caffeine free hot drinks and an alternative box of treats. The harder feedback was to put projections on the back of the matterhorn so we could see it from up there. Someone else suggested getting a fast pass for the fireworks being canceled, but since they don't even have fireworks during the week, I don't think that will happen. Personally, I think they should make it more of a character meet and greet and have more characters come through. Of course, serving alcohol would be nice and I actually think they could probably charge the $45 per person to get in and then charge again for each drink, but that isn't going to happen.
I don't know if this even will survive on the long term. It needs to evolve for sure. I do think they will continue to make changes. I went to a Halloween party the first year they offered it and it was terrible. I gave them very detailed feedback from that and they made all the changes I thought they should make. They doubled the ticket price, but the higher price feels worth it whereas the original felt like a waste of money. If they made drastic changes to this event, maybe I would check it again. If not, I can't foresee any reason to do it again.
