DIS Unplugged 10th Anniversary - Official Information Thread

Most of the rest of the US had alternatives like Hostess, Drake, Lil' Debbie, etc. Tastykake I believe became more available in the New England area when Hostess went under and there was a void before other companies took over their cakes.

Yep, I personally liked Hostess products better than Lil Debbie or TastyKake, and the places I worked food/retail in the past, the Hostess delivery guys (same ones would have huge routes, so I would see them over and over through the years in different area) were always nice.

TastyKake is a brand of snack/baked goods, Jes. I guess you saw the conversation they are made and headquartered in Philadelphia, which is in the northeast US. Their availability map on their site shows them being fairly widely available around the rest of the US, but anybody I've ever talked to outside of the NorthEast had never seen them outside of there.

SonIAm -I love Dr. Pepper, have since I was a kid - even the diet ones taste great - especially diet cherry!! :) MoonPies I can take or leave, too sweet for me. (Although I was more likely to see Scooter Pies as a kid, when I ate more of that type of stuff). Jes - In case you don't know - Dr. Pepper is a very distinctive tasting soft drink that looks like Coke. Moon/ScooterPies kind of hard to explain, but are basically some type of "biscuit/cakey subsstance" (calling it a biscuit, because I know that's what you call cookies) filled with marshmallow and covered with chocolate. They're usually pretty big, around the size of your hand. At least that's how I'm thinking to describe them to you - anybody else can jump in/correct me if if you're so inclined. :)
Lol, yes we get Dr Pepper here. I used to like it as a kid, but I'm not much of a soft drink/soda/fizzy drink type of gal. I'll have a Coke occasionally, and dry ginger ale with my scotch, but for the most part, I drink water.
I had a fair idea of what a moon pie is. We have a slight variation here (not as much marshmallow) called a wagon wheel. More biscuity though. And it has jam in it too.

Tastycake is a Philly and south Bakery that makes Cakes and individual pies such as the TastyKlair Pie (like an Eclair Donut in Pie form). They're also known for Peanut Butter Cakes and the Chocolate Junior. They aren't international like the maker of Twinkies. http://www.tastykake.com/products for what they offer.
We never had the Twinkie phenomenon here (at least not in my years)

@WebmasterJohn Are donations needed/being taken for the silent auction? Also, while we are on the subject of regional foods, I will throw a shout out to Goo-Goo Clusters, some Grippos Potato chips and of course some Derby pie!

Goo Goo clusters as in a flavor of ice cream too? Yummmmmmm. And Tin Roof Sundae. :)

It's a candy bar that is made in Nashville. So So good.

Hello! I am so excited to be signed up and booked for the weekend. I hope to be able to stay until the 26th, but I won't know about being able to get time off until earlier that month :worried:

As someone born and raised in Philly, I will say that I don't think Tastykakes are as good as they used to be. I think the trans fat ban has something to do with that.

I used to treat myself about once a year with a Tastyklair pie though I haven't had one for a while. I figure each one just advances the date of my 1st heart attack by a few weeks since they have an obscene amount of fat - but they're so good.

@Princess Jes They should be readily available in NYC.

on the playground, is where you spent most of your days? Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool? Perhaps, shooting some b-ball outside of the school?

Oh, and as someone from New York I can say that you can find Tastykakes (my wife loves the butterscotch Krimpets) but I find Drakes Cakes are more common (I loved the fruit pies and cofee cakes) and of course Hostess with the Twinkies and Cupcakes. Some stores may have all options, some only one

As far as I know, TastyKake products are not sold outside of the Northeast, specifically Philly, area. Had a friend who lived outside of Philly who used to ship cases of TastyKake stuff down before his trips to WDW to share with others, and have another friend now who regularly ships stuff from Philly to her friend in CA. And being a Joisey goil, I know of which you speak! :)

We have Tastykake stuff all over Alabama and Georgia!

This is happening at Cirque theater? That's awesome! And accessible af.

Didn't know they rented out the theater for events.
