Exacerbated by the fact that the studios don't really want anyone to know what they make on a movie anyway. For example, you often see a movie with a $200M production budget but they change directors and do 6 months of reshoots, and still the $200 million figure doesn't change. I am inclined to believe the studios are not in the habit of being 100% honest when it comes to these "published" numbers.

You are correct in tha tthey don't want to tell, but they have to for the stockholders. If it's a private company, they wouldn't. They do try to be tricky with it sometimes though.

But can you really claim profit from post theatrical run that was just dumping it on Disney+. I mean Disney+ has lost $4 Billion in the last 12 months. Maybe merchandise sales?

I have no idea, but they actually have detailed breakdowns. Seems like their stuff is a little more reputable than the generalities and round numbers used by other sources.

But if you have evidence that they are full of crap, please let me know.

Deadline is pretty reputable, but also a "Hollywood Rag" so to speak. They are the insiders, so, you know. Not that I don't trust them - I read Deadline every day. But there is always some room for interpretation. Nobody really knows everything, even the studio accountants apparently.

The movie can continue to make money after the theatres. digital and blue ray. Licensing and yes merch. It has been the way it has been done in Hollywood forever and was DIS’s bread and butter.

They may now also allocate money from Dis+ revenue to the studios/networks based on streaming numbers or contractual agreements. I am not sure how that works.

Star Wars action figures used to be a hot selling item, but today the Rey figures (The Hero) are seen in the clearance bin regularly. I just don't think the toy market is even close to what it used to be.

Blu-ray sales are on the dcline, but there is still some market for them. Many collectors and film afficianados like to own them and they like the 4K editions. It's niche though.

Star Wars toys still sell pretty well, though it greatly depends on the figure. Sometimes they overproduce some trooper or side character and they hang around for a while. The 6 inch Black Series are popular with collectors, not necessarily with kids. Kids like the smaller scale ships though. Don't be disingenuous though, they haven't released a Rey in a while, so she's not sitting in the clearance bins.

I haven't seen a Rey figure anywhere in while, other than the Dark Rey, which was more recent and decently popular it seems too. And yeah, I regularly go out looking for action figures, though I don't buy so many myself anymore, but my friends do.

Let me know which Reys you want. I can send you plenty at less than 50% of their original prices. I saw and entire SW section last weekend at 80% off in a store in my area. There was an entire plastic bin full of Rey's. I almost bought a falcon, but the box had been opened and I assumed all the parts weren't there.

Yes we still buy Blu-Rays. We currently have at home 485 Movies and TV series either on DVD or Blu-Ray. The wife and I like to have physical copies of the movies and tv shows we enjoy. I just ended up having delivered on Monday the newest Dungeon and Dragons movie. I never saw it in the theatre and I'm looking forward to watching it at home. Normally when we buy them, we also try to get the version that has the digital copies along with the disc.

I think you will find that lots of collectibles and toys don't sell in anywhere near the quantities that they have sold in the past. The market has changed and with lots of children being entertained with tablets and phones instead of toys or playing outdoors, the numbers have really dropped off.

I don't want any, but if the rest of the SW toys are also on sale, why is it a "Rey" problem? You do understand that is exactly what I mean when I talk about certain sources drawing spurious conclusions. You can sort of interpret anything to mean anything if you don't know or include all of the facts. They probably made a ton of Rey's since she was the main character. Many figures get clearanced, especialyl when made in high numbers. This has been an issue since they started makeing SW toys. I got a ton of Phantom Menace figs for 2 bucks becuse they were so overproduced, and that included popular characters like Darth Maul. You dislike Rey, and you see her figures on clearance, therefore everyone hates Rey and you get to be "right" about her. You are reinforcing your own biases, but not everything exists in this microcosm.

I had kind of gotten off of buying the discs excepting certain things (or if very cheap), but with the streaming services removing and depreciating content right and left, I kidns wish I hadn't!

I never said she was great. She's fine - not my favorite. Just because I don't hate her, doesn't mean I love her either. That's another fallacy that too many people engage in - if you're not with me then you're against me, and no being in the middle eihter, it's eitehr ascribe to one side or you must feel the opposite about me on everything. That's what foments division and hatred.

Blu Rays have fallen in sales but I personally think it is important to own physical copies of media you enjoy -- that goes for books as well. Streaming services add and remove titles constantly, plus they can "edit" them as they please -- same with books. I digitize all my DVDs and Blu Rays and run them through a Plex server so it's like my own personal Netflix, but then I have all the physical copies if needed. I just keep them stored away in totes. I'm generally a minimalist in other aspects of my life but I like physical books so we have bookcases in practically every room of the house. Unfortunately many people do not feel that way and just pay for streaming services but are at their mercy with title availability.

And take one guess who has their sights set on the princess genre, since Disney has dropped the ball?

My understanding is Nintendo has a large princess driven initiative coming out of the immense popularity of Princess Peach in the Super Mario Movie. Disney doesn't really take Universal seriously and that is pretty foolish if you ask me.
