Dis- O- Lantern entry pictures

WOW - I am very IMPRESSED at some of these. I thought mine was good (I dont see many templet carvings) but some are just A-MAZE-ING!!! WDW I'd love to see a bigger picture of yours.. it was difficult to see the detail you put into it... but wow. The judges will have a difficult time picking their top 3 I think. Good Luck to all, and EVERYONE did GREAT!

Lol, i read online that if you put petroleum jelly on the inside and carvings it will last alot longer. I tried and my pumpkin still looks fresh.

Yes, very much so, especially good for the "surface scrape" type like mine.

I'm really really impressed by Zeniff's Vincent pumpkin, WOW!! And it took me forever to figure out what hdmonkeybug's was (finally closed one eye and got it!!), but that one's great too! And gotta love peasy's, looks like you've been bit BAD by that Pirates bug, Missy!! I remember the good ol' days when you were even worse than ME at the game (Memo to self: find someone who's worse than me to play against :rolleyes1 )
I'm so impressed by all the creativity!
Well done everybody!

thanks i had to practice on 5 over pumpkins, the hardest part i think was trying to get all the shadows of his face right and not making the whole image fall out of the pumpkin :thumbsup2 and 1 thing that i think was "under-looked" was the perfect lighting you needed to really make your pumpkin "glow" :goodvibes

Rofl! My picture just didn't do it justice! It is difficult to see Mickey in there!

Everyone did a great job! And Zeniff, as far as the lighting goes, that was my problem!

Yes!! But once my eyes figured it out, I was so in love with the sorcerer's hat! :lovestruc It must have been so difficult carving around the star!

Wow All of the entries showed great talent and creativity. Good Luck to all of you !!

I knew that I should have used a pattern for my pumpkin, lol. I don't think I will be drawing anymore of my own patterns,:rotfl: . What kind of tools did everybody else use for scraping? I looked all over for a scraping tool, and could not find one. I ended up using a clay knife, lol.

All of these are wicked awesome! :thumbsup2

I meant to enter the contest, and just didnt have the time (too much fireworks???). Now I am not so disappointed after seeing these amazing entries. I would have been put to shame LOL :) I am so impressed! Good work DIS'ers!

Well done everyone and good luck. I'd also like to say a big thank you to WebMaster Cricket for putting the time in to organise this event

Yes, please post your methods of carving!

Those are fantastic entries... I am so impressed with the work.

I glad I don't have to chose a winner. So much talent in one location, the Dis just attracts the best people. Good Luck to all.

Extra PD for my Pal, job well done.

I used a razor... Not too safe, but that added to the Halloween mood :)

Okay, this was my very first time carving an actual picture on a pumpkin. :thumbsup2

I found a picture on a website, printed the design, cut it out and taped it to my pumpkin. (First I gutted the pumpkin of course!)

Since I didn't have a pumpkin kit which comes with all the tools, I had to use an X-Acto knife instead of a poker tool, which you are supposed to poke through the paper into the pumpkin to get the outlines. :rotfl2:

Once I had the outlines, I removed the picture and started to cut. Here are the tools I used to cut.

X-Acto knife :rotfl:
Pair of scissors :rotfl2:
Toothpick :lmao:

NOTE: Ask pink if you don't believe me. :lmao: :lmao:

I just wanted to invite all to a board I have been a member of for awhile if you enjoy pumpkin carving.

It's www.carvingpumpkins.com/newqna

It's a great place to learn new techniques and really improve those pumpkin skills. You will also be able to secure lots of creative ideas and patterns.

My name over there is Griffin6601.

:thumbsup2 Excellent work everyone! They all look so amazing... thanks for sharing. :goodvibes

I bought one of the little cheapie tool kits at Walmart, but they were bent and dull after about a quarter of my design :p The scraper worked ok, but I always get frusterated with the fact that no matter how much I scrape it's always too thick and strings still hang down. I walked away with bruises and rashes, lol I ended up using a very small pampered chef knife. I dyed the ship black with 7 gypsies scrapbooking ink and applied it with a spong brush.

As for the design, it's just me. I had it in my head and tried to make it come to life on the pumpkin. I wish I would have made the Kraken a little bit bigger.

Just wanted to say everyone did such a great job. Now I know why I did not enter would not have come even close to being that creative. And me and sharp knives do not get along LOL.

Also a big wow to all those who gave such wonderful prizes to the people on here you are all so generous.

Congrats to everyone involved :thumbsup2
