As I'm sitting here trying not to feel like death warmed over from a hideously bad cold, my mother calls.

Apparently DNephew3 (who is only about 3 mos old) has been taken to *Local Children's Hospital* with something called RSV. I've never really heard of this, outside of a few "THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOOOOOOOU!" type commercials on tv that always show up during the late fall/winter. What is RSV?

My mom also said DSis and her older two girls (who are nearly 5 and nearly 4) were sick also but she didn't say with what, so is it possible they had RSV as well and gave it to the baby?

My niece was hospitalized for a week last year with RSV and continues to have breathing problems. It can be very serious. Hoping your Dnephew recovers quickly and with no ongoing problems.

My daughter was hospitalized with RSV when she was 4 months old for a week. She is 5 now. It was a really scary week but, she recovered quickly once the breathing treatments kicked in. She was also in an oxygen tent for the first 48 hours.

She now has asthma and has had pneumonia 3 times. My son and I both have asthma as well so, the Dr's do not know if it was from the RSV (which can happen) or hereditary. I am thinking the poor kid got it from me.

I hope your nephew recovers quickly. I know first hand how serious RSV can be.:grouphug:

anybody can get RSV virus, but for kids/adults, it is just like a cold. They can pass it on to infants, for whom it is much much much more dangerous. Infants who were preemies are most at risk. Generally, babies with RSV will be hospitalized and have to be watched really closely because it's so dangerous. (hopefully that helps re: what is RSV)

Thank you for the info. I hope DN3 is going to be alright, too.

Both of my children had RSV as babies. One was 4 months old and one was about 8 months old. Neither needed to be hospitalized but both needed breathing treatments. It is my understanding that most children get it at some point or another. I hope your nephew get better soon and before Christmas. We were grounded in the year my youngest had it.
