Dis Mom's Club?

HELP!!! I need some input from other moms. DS4 should be potty trained but he's just not quite there. If we are out somewhere he will tell me when he needs to go, we head to the bathroom and he goes. If we are home and it's been awhile since he's gone I make him go to the potty an most of the time he goes. The problem is if we don't make him go on the potty at home he will just pee his pants. Poop he hides in a corner and goes in his pants. No luck witht that on the potty yet. How can I get him to go when he needs to at home. Sometimes it's just a matter that we all get busy and no one reminds him, and that's when he pees him self. Tonight he went in his room and peed on the carpet. DH was home all day with him and finally got to a point that he was just wearing underpants because he ran out of shorts. We thought about setting a timer and making him go every hour.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. He starts school next month and is supposed to be able to do all this on his own.

JUNE 28TH!?!?:scared1: We had snow, ice, flooding,... and our schools were out on June 2nd & that was a little over 2weeks after their original scheduled dismissal date. August is the hottest month of the year in KY w/ horrible humidity so for the kids w/o ac it's probably good. My kids wear shorts from the end of March/ first of April until typically Halloween (long sleeves/ jacket at night). It's nothing to see someone wearing flip flops in late February. We have a lot of in-service days. My kids start school at 7:40 & are out at 2:20. Busses have to drive in very rural areas. When I was a kid I was on the bus for an hour in the a.m. & 1 1/2 hours in the p.m. Back then they use to excuse us for hunting & farming. No joke. My kids are excused for two days a year for dance productions, still not joking. They will close a school down in the community if their team makes it to a state championship, no joke. The privates school are the same except w/ religion. My kids use to go to a private school & it is the same at the public school they are in except w/ no religion or uniforms. My kids are looking forward to school starting. They like school.

Speaking of KY in March what is the weather like? My DD has spring break the first week of March and KY was a possible location for us to visit (along with WDW of course) but the weather concerns me a little. I don't want to be freezing.

Good luck with the potty training it was never my favorite time. My DD was the easiest kid on the planet to potty train so she is not helpful in this situation my DS on the other hand...

For Evan stickers were his reward because the stickers equaled a large payoff. He desperately wanted a basketball hoop and while I had planned to get it for his birthday I saw this as an opportunity to bribe my child to be potty trained. For every sticker (immediate reward) he earned he earned "mommy dollars" towards his basketball hoop (long term goal). It took him about 6 weeks to earn enough but he got it and has not had an accident since. That was 2 years ago.

This may not work for you but immediate rewards are huge in situations like this.

He's a boy so his maturity is probably not quite there. If he's the baby this factors into it. If he is potty trained by kindergarten he's fine. I have two girls; my youngest was potty trained before she turned two. My oldest wasn't day time potty trained until 3 & night time was 3 1/2 and she had accidents until she was 8. Her bladder was weak & she's a busy child so she would forget. My brother potty trained at 4. A friend of mine, who is a mental health therapist son turned 5 the March before kindergarten & didn't potty train until then. He is a happy well adjusted boy. Relax & talk to his pediatrician.

My other motivation to get him potty trained is that we are going to Disney in...see ticker below... and was hoping to not have to drag around the diaper bag. He actually does great through the night. He wakes up dry. Of course I have to tell him to go on the potty or he will just go in the diaper or pull up. I've been trying to do just underwear in the day, but I'm sick of cleaning poopy undies! :headache:

He might surprise you once he starts school. :confused3 When I wanted to potty train our oldest, he didn't really care. BUT when his cousin who was a year older came to spend a week, he saw her going all the time and within 3 days he was dry! Just needed motivation from a peer?

Boys are so hard. i have triplets 2 boys and 1 girl.. Girl SO easy. the boys? not so much. i also used the stickers, money, ANYTHING to get them to go on the potty. i learned you cannot use a temper.. if you do they will only hide it. including hiding the dirty underwear (of course you wont find until the smell) my son Matt at 5 wouldn't want to stop playing either outside or too involved in a video game there was the accidents.. SO FRUSTRATING!
but the money, stickers, toys did the trick for me.. If he did go in the pants i took away. REALLY make it a big deal when they go. Like he just won a noble prize. Boys are so willing to do anything to make Mommies proud. Good Luck! keep strong!

We finally did the "naked potty training" for DS and it work in a matter of a week or two. We started on a weekend that we had no plans for and he just ran around in a t-shirt. We did have to clean the couch and floor a few times, but just for pee. I think he started to poop once and freaked because it "had no where to go" and went on the potty for poop from that point on.

Good Luck!

The joke in KY is if you don't like the weather just wait 10 minutes & it will change. In March, typically it's rainy & about 60ish. I have seen snow in March & I have seen 80 degrees in March. It also depends on what part of the state. I went to college in the eastern part of the state & it was always a little cooler. My dh grew up in central part & it is usually about the same. I lived at one time in the southern part and it was typically warmer by a few degrees. We live in the north western part. Where are you all wanting to go & what part of March? Last year, we left for WDW around the 30/ 31 and we wore shorts from home. I am not hot natured.

We were looking at Southern KY, near Mammoth Caves and Northern TN but I don't want to be cold or rained out either. We would go the first few days of March. Still in the planning stages. I also have SC and AZ on the list of places to visit.

It's the same weather inside the caves year round. I use to go once or twice a year as a kid. Another cool cave is Marengo Cave in southern Indiana. Lost River Cave in Bowling Green, KY but it floods if it rains too much. It's a boat ride. We have never taken our kids to the caves but have been kicking it around. I use to live in Nashville. We usually go to Nashville once or twice a year but drive through for vacations. We are looking at going to SC the end of March.

Sunday morning, drinking my sweet tea (w/ Splenda) & sitting on the veranda (back patio). Good morning except it is cold, okay it's 70 but in KY in August this is unheard of. DH is paying bills & the kids are playing Wii. Peaceful! It will be then until the 3 of them decide to make waffles then it will sound like a war zone. I'm surfing the web trying to find deals I can actually look into that are for Disney Gift Cards. You know the kind of deal that you spend $50 then you get $5 free & so on.... They have them at Winn Dixie. I think the closest Winn Dixie to me is a couple of hours so that's of no help. Also, trying to find if BLT has front loaders because if they do I have to get the HG soap. We don't even go for like 2 months but I don't want to do like usual and be running around at the last minute gathering stuff. Also, the last couple of times we bought grocery items in Florida. It was higher than a cats back! I will go back to the cooler & toter full of stuff. I need a new swim suit & shorts this time, too. Mine have seen better days. I'm not a good shopper. I can buy junk all day long but clothing shopping is like having a root canal. Lazy Sunday & Mass tonight! Have a great Sunday!

I hear ya on buying the Disney Gift Cards. Right now where I work has their's on sale where we earn .20 toward our gas so we are going to stock up so we can buy more park hoppers. We were planning for this sale so we could get the gas deal!

I'm getting super excited for our trip in April! It's just so far away!

BLT has both front and top loaders. Only 1 front loader and I think 2 or three top loaders.

I have to ask -- how do you make sweet tea with Splenda? I love sweet tea, but only get it as a rare treat if we happen to be in the South, you really can't find it in New England :sad2: If I could make it myself with Splenda, I'd give that a shot! :thumbsup2

TIA!

I too am in New England and I make my own Sweet Tea... I don't use Splenda though... but I guess it is easy enough to do just subsituting Splenda for Sugar.

I boil about a pot of water with 2 cups sugar and then add my tea bags. Sorry I don't know the size of my pot... but I'd say 10 cups of water and I use the family size bag of tea (2 of the them so it is strong enough) Lipton makes them.

Wicked easy and wicked good on a hot summer day in Maine!

Where do you work? My dh uses my Kroger pts for gas & I could always use some more points. Kroger isn't the best on letting you know about how to get more gas points.

Typically, I boil 3 family size Lipton Tea bags w/ 4 cups of water. I boil it about 5 to 10 minutes. Then I let it sit for about 15 minutes. I put 1 1/3 cup of sugar or Splenda in the 2 gallon pitcher. I then take out my tea bags and poor my tea over my sugar or Splenda then stir until sugar or Splenda is dissolved. I then add water to taste. I add very little water because when I poor it over ice the ice dilutes the taste. Tea sits on my counter for the day rather than in the fridge. The fridge makes it cloudy. If I have any left at the end of the day then I will put it in the fridge and if it's not gone by the following evening I toss it. I prefer fresh tea. I grew up w/ tea sitting on the counter at breakfast and the pitcher would be empty by evening. I don't like Cold Brew or Instant Tea. I like the decaf done the same way. I will make Sun Tea but I don't put the sugar or Splenda in it until I bring it in because the sweet attracts ants. I live less than a mile from the Ohio River so ants can be a nightmare.

So, McDonald's doesn't have sweet tea in your area? My sister-in-law is from State College, PA and we couldn't find a fried chicken biscuit or milk gravy to save our lives. They moved to KY about 4 years ago. My nieces favorite food now is biscuits & gravy. The entire family is addicted to sweet tea. My SIL made fried chicken for the first time last year. They love it.

We are trying to eat healthier so that's why I switched to Splenda. I fixed squash & zucchini for lunch and you would have thought I have committed a crime because it wasn't breaded. I made flounder (non animated kind) last night & I didn't fry it. I was impressed because we all ate it. Still trying to make a cole slaw w/o mayo, haven't found a great recipe. We even fry pies. No wonder the south has a high % of overweight. :sad2:

KY Figment~
I work at Giant Eagle. I now have $14.xx toward gas now with all the Disney gift cards and some others I purchased last night!! Free gas for a few tanks!!

Hello DISMoms! Sorry I have been MIA. We were out of town for a week and since we got home we have been getting ready for school. My kids go back on Monday.:banana: It has also been an emotional week for me. We found out last Monday that my DS has Aspergers. It was news that I was expecting, but I found that I was not quite as ready to hear it as I thought I would be. I have taken this week to adapt to the news and on Tuesday I will start researching and finding out what our next steps will be. (Please don't mention this on FB. We are not ready for that yet.)
