Dis Mom's Club?

A lot of people love the couch to 5K program, I'm a "graduate" of John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals.

I recommend looking at a few different programs and seeing what seems right for you.

I also recommend the WISH threads and teams, you can get a ton of good advice and encouragement!

Hey Ladies,

We should put together a team together and for us beginners do the WDW 5k or Princess 5k this year, well 2012, and do the Princess 1/2 marathon in 2013... It would give us all something to work toward and we should be able to do a local 5k or two before we do the Disney one. What do you think?

The Biggest Loser thread did this for the Princess this year, since many were brand new runners and even those who weren't wanted to chat about training, but not bring the BL thread to a halt and alienate people who weren't racing.

It turned out to be a good mix -- it was great for people who had never raced before to get ideas and reassurance, and it also allowed the experienced racers to share.

If you are interested in having more DIS moms who are experienced racers, you could start the thread in the WISH section. Many of us are Moms (plenty of Dads, too!)...or if you just want to keep it here I'm sure that would be great, too.

Since I am brand new to this thread, I don't really know the dynamic yet...

If you're on the fence about doing it, it's a total blast. I have a ton of pictures in my blog about the race:

Well, that gives us 3 DISmoms! Which 5k would you like to do or do you want to do the 1/2? I'm not sure if 8-9 months is enough time for beginners to train for a 1/2. :confused3 Registration for the WDW marathon 5k in Jan. is open now and the Princess marathon 5k registration opens in July.

It does sound like there will be a few of the DISmoms running in the Princess 1/2, so we should try to plan a get together sometime that weekend. :grouphug:

I'd love to do the Princess 1/2 marathon. Do you think that it's possible to train for a 1/2 marathon in a year. Again, I've never been a runner so anything you guys could help me with would be great. I also think it'd be great to have a group of DIS MOMs running.

I've never been a runner and have only started on the treadmill a few weeks ago. I'm going to start couch25k on Sunday and go from there. I've posted on the W.I.S.H board thread for the Princess 1/2, asking if we have enough time realistically to start training for the 1/2 for 2012. I'm just not sure I'd have enough stamina to do the 1/2 this time around. You have to maintain a 16 min mile, which doesn't sound rough until you think about how many miles are in a 1/2 marathon. ;)

Your blog made me want to run the 1/2! I just don't think I'd be able to make it training less then a year. It did look like you had a blast.

I started with couch to 5k last February, and ran my first half in November. I couldn't even run a mile when I started, so I think there is plenty of time to train before next year still! If you can manage to get into an earlier coral, you technically have longer than the 16 minutes per a mile that the website lists because they start the sweeper clock when the last person crosses the start line.

That's awesome Dismoms! I walk every morning, but no running. I don't think I'm made for running. My middle daughter would like to try the princess half marathon in the future. She loves to run, it's great.

Oooh! If other DisMoms are going to do the Princess 1/2 marathon that might give me some motivation. Maybe we should start a separate thread (if there isn't one already) so we can cheer each other on and talk about how training is going.

I still haven't gotten out. Stupid rain. This weekend is supposed to be nice so I'm hopping I can get out and do a fast paced walk/run. Our boardwalk is 1 mile from end to end so I thought I would start out there to see how I can do. Maybe I can work up to running to the boardwalk, probably about 2-2.5 miles from my house depending which way you go.

It would be so much fun to run a race together with some DisMoms!:thumbsup2

Heather, loved your blog. Did they have photopass photogs out? I don't think I could run with my camera. It's a DSLR. Maybe borrow a small compact P&S. Tell me I can do this. It looks like a ton of fun, and that medal is oh so cute. I might just have to wear it all the time!

Now that there are 3 of us, may be 4, I'm off to start a thread on the W.I.S.H Board. I'll post a link to the thread here once I've made it! princess:

Here is the link to our thread on the W.I.S.H boards- http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=41189805#post41189805

I've put JennStars9 and ColleenG on the list to run the 1/2, Ladies, if that's not correct just let me know!

If any of our other DisMoms are planning on running either the 5k or the 1/2 post on the WISH thread and I'll update the list!

Hi all!

My name's Brook and I'm a former teacher turned SAHM to Molly, 7, and Sam, almost 5. I've been married for almost 9 years. My parents are retired teachers who used to bring us to WDW almost every summer, spring break or Christmas break when I was growing up and now I'm finding that I am doing the same with my kids!

I have recently started running, after not having done so since high school! I have lost 72 pounds (and counting), so I've really gotten into exercising. It's now my alone time and I love it. Aside from running 3 days a week, I also do pilates, yoga and water aerobics.

I'm signed up for the Wine & Dine 5k this fall, it will be my first one! I am very excited to earn a Disney medal. I'm running the race with my sister, who was a record-setting long distance runner in high school and my mom, who is a senior olympic triathlete. I hope I can keep up!

Thanks for starting the thread on the WISH board, it's great for us beginners!

Welcome Brookmey! I've added the Wine & Dine to the list on the WISH board and added you're name to it! We'll be there in spirit cheering you on :cheer2: and maybe there will be other DisMoms you can meet up with!
