Help out a new cruiser! Give our group some ideas for our cruise meet. Where did you meet? Did you bring gifts or trinkets? Did you play games such as find the hidden mickeys together? Did you swim? Meet at the clubs. Let us know We want a successful meet! :cool1:

THE LIST

This was the stuff planned for our Cruise on May 14th, 2005

Should give you a few idea's :goodvibes :rotfl:

One of our group suggested we each bring a brown paper bag, filled
with items from our hometown/state, approx. $10. We met the
first evening on deck, by Scoops and just chatted away and developed
the most precious friendships I ever imagined. We spent the whole
week together, signed up for margarita tasting together, wine tasting
together, went to the late shows together.....it was unbelieveable how
well we all got along.
Our first meeting was the night before the cruise, at the Grand California,
only 5 families were there but at least we got to meet each other.
Then in the terminal, the five families just sat and played the game,
"who do you think that is" - by the time we were ready to board, we had
a whole group together! SO MUCH FUN.
I LOVE OUR GROUP and we will all, hopefully, sail together again in
2007 with more get-togethers.

I must be super slow - I totally do not follow hygiene's thread??!!

Peter was on the May repo cruise. They had 14 days so had many many many things planned.

Our usual plan for DIS meets is 3 pm up on deck 10 mid-ship on sailing day. 3pm works because everyone is pretty much on the ship by that time, has eaten lunch and signed kids in etc. It is quiet up there then and gives us all time to meet and chat. My DH MarkRG always makes buttons for the group and we pass them out. Then we do the drill and just about everyone meets up for sailaway!

On our 10 day we also had group get togethers for a wine tasting and an ornament exchange.

We also had dining tables linked at both early and late seating.

We had great fun and many of us are sailing again next May and talking about 2007 as well.

We also have a great group of DIS'ers meeting for the DVC Member Cruise in a little over a week!

The LIST is a detailed list of ALL the meet and greets they organized on the first REPO cruise.... To provide some examples to pick and choose from...

With that said.... I am planning a DIS meet on the 9/29 cruise and basicly the 6 or 7 families will meet either before the life boat drill or before the sail away party for drinks and a bit of gabbing. That's it pretty much. LOL A photo op... a little chatting... a few drinks.... and of course a "Hey" when we see each other on board.

I may get organized enough to see if they want matching door signs or something like that, but t-shirts are over the top for our group.

Keep it simple and brief for the first meet, talk about options for the coming days and see what happens.

As Lucy mentioned, our DIS group on the 7/30 sailing was AMAZING!! We met at 10pm at Scoops on the first night and exchanged brown bags of $10 in special items from our hometowns. About 12 families participated (mostly adults attended) and we had the trip of our lives....I would also suggest that the meet occur in Diversions which is a really nice bar on Deck 3. ;)

Deck 10 at 3 p.m. is a TERRIBLE place to meet and melt (if you get my drift).
We sailed 6/26 and it was so hot and humid!!! No shade to be found on 10.
Don't meet up there!!! As a South Alabamian, I thought I knew all about heat and humidity, but it was much worse at the port and in Nassau. Sea day wasn't as bad, but you could tell we were not going fast enough to get much breeze either. After our sailing day when my make-up was just running off me, I never wore it again during the daytime...only for dinner.

We were wanting to meet with our kids too. Does the bars you suggested allow kids? Also can someone give me more details on the coffee shop in the terminal. Are kids allowed there? Is there a good place to meet there before boarding the ship?
Someone also suggested the Promenade Lounge. Is that worth a try? Thanks.

A small goup of us met in May. WE choose the promenade lounge as it was easy to find, ok for kids, inside so it was perfect weather and lots of chairs if you wanted to sit and chat a bit, or even have a drink. WE chose 3:00 p.m. because everyone was on board, had lunch, found their rooms, and got heir kids set up for the kids clubs. Plus we had a few minutes to chat before we had to do the safety drill. We did run into each other throughout the cruise and would stop to catch up on what we had been doing on board. It was up to each person if they wanted to set up a meeting time to do something more with their new friends. But that way there was no pressure on people who already had a full day planned with their families too. There is so much to do on board, most people find it hard to meet for extra activities as they have so many things they want to do.
We all wrote a nice trip report and sent to each other after we got back home, which was a nice way to end our cruise, and maybe we will cruise together again someday.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but DIS meets don't always work out. When I went on our 1st cruise in 2001, our cruise had a thread of at least 20 people. I took the responsibility of getting everyones names, addresses, prefered meeting times/places and I made 2 lime green ribbons for each family. All but 2 families responded. When we got on board, I only saw 2-3 people wearing the ribbons, only 3 families out of the 18 came to the 1st meeting and I heard that only 1-2 families showed up for the other get togethers. Even though we all talked on board for months, when everyone met, I got the feeling that people were uneasy. Just my experience. I don't do DIS meets anymore because of our bad experience.

Stupids questions: - what type of stuff did you put in the bags? What did you do with the bags - a grab bag or did you have something for every one? Sounds like fun, I would just like to know more.

Our group is already excited about getting together. We aren't calling them "meets" but rather MAGICal Gatherings. We also understand there is no pressure to be part of the group or to do every activity together. We are even planning "mini meets" prior to cruising.

Tay ans Evie's mom,
Sorry to hear your meet didnt work out. As I stated above, everyone gets so excited when they get on board and they start getting involved with other activities and then they forget about meeting or it just isn't convenient for them. Just be happy that a couple did show and the rest were probably off having fun and just forgot. I'm sure it wasnt intentional with all of them. maybe on your next cruise someone will have a quick simple meet like I described above. It's very low key and only took 15 minutes of our time. Please dont let one bad experience ruin your chances of a good meet sometime. There are lots of great people out there. Hope it goes better next time.

I will admit to arranging a DIS meet at WDW and being so late we missed it. Sucked big time. But I am un daunted.

I'd like to know what you put in them and how you handled dividing up the bags too please!

~Talking to my fellow cruisers helps me realize that there's ALOT to remember~

Being the organizer I intend to put my itinerary on my cabin door so others in our group can be informed and not have to remember everything we've talked about doing together. :cool1: Most of our group of 22 DISers onboard just happen to be booked on the same deck. We've even got one bringing a bullhorn-it'll be ok, it's a stitch voice bullhorn ;)

On our 2004 Thanksgiving cruise, we met at sailaway on deck 10, then each nite we had an informal meet at Diversions, or Rockin Bar D. We also did Palo brunch in groups of 6. I met some terrific folks and 5 families rebooked for this years Thanksgiving. For this year we have 30 DIS people that have private chartered a boat at Grand Cayman for a snorkel/beach trip. We also have about 50 of us that have linked our dinner reservation together so that we will be seated near each other at dinner.(FOOD FIGHT!!!)
It was great last year to see DIS friends all over the boat and at excursions. Just felt comfortable talking, since we had already got to know folks on the DIS...
Oh yeah, and we scheduled to watch football games in Diversions when they were on. Go Cowboys.

Is this question related to the topic? I hope so. :wizard:

If you dined together, how did you handle the kids and talking at the same time? How did you keep the kids (younger than 6) destracted enough so you could talk with every one else? I am hoping our kids will want to eat with their fellow Oceaneer Clubbers. Any thoughts?

Oh, I beg to differ with you. After several cruises and just as many DIS meets (all in different locations) the deck 10 at 3:00 was the BEST! One meet was "around the Mickey pool around 3:00." The Mickey pool is a ZOO and everyone is more concerned with not losing their tables than going over to meet up with other DISers. The 3:00 in Promenade Lounge was WORSE. I had to drag the kids out of the pool....wet....to take them into the A/C to meet people they could have cared less about. :) Later that night we ran into several who weren't at the meet and they all said "sorry we missed the DIS meet, we didn't want to get the kids out of the pool." :(

I don't mind the heat. Typically, I'm cruising to get away from Ohio's gloomy, cold, damp weather and there is nothing more glorious than to stand out on deck 10 and let the heat soak through to my bones. It's not like we're out there hours....that DIS meet we were there probably 20-25 minutes. Said some hellos, hugged some "friends" and connected the kids with others. We knew we weren't vacationing *with* these people, but it was good to put screen names to faces and it really did make the whole entire cruise (10 days) one of the best b/c there was rarely a time I walked down the hall where there wasn't someone to say hello to.

Just my humble opinions. Your mileage may vary!
