Blooming men eh ? At least you can still come and it won't matter if you're a bit later Nicky ::yes::

Afraid I'm going to have to say no this year. DH was laid off on Thursday :headache: As he's a subcontractor, he was told Thursday that there's no more work for a while. A bit of notice would've been nice

Hopefully next year girls for the full weekend :goodvibes

Aww sorry to hear. hope to see you at a future weekend.x
hope he manages to find some work soon.xx :wizard:

Thanks Girls. His boss is going through a divorce and has changed completely..... not for the better:mad: Everyone's treading on eggshells. He sacked two for asking for their wages as he hadn't paid them for three weeks!!

On the good side, he's just sent DH a text saying he'll phone him Monday about work. Fingers crossed it's good news :goodvibes

I still think that Cardiff's a no as DS has just informed me that he can't get a Uni flat for Sept and that means taking a 12 month lease. That means paying for 3 months when he's at home :headache: I'll be kicking him out the door to look for Summer jobs when he comes home at Easter

Yeah, I hate that! It's the same here in Cardiff. The contracts for student flats/houses run from July-July most often, and the fact that most students go home for the summer means that the house sits empty for a couple of months until you return to study in Sept/Oct.

I've always been lucky in the way that I've only ever paid half rent for my houses during July and August on the condition that you don't use it/stya there. Is this an option for your son Lesley?

I hope both your DH and DS manage to sort something :goodvibes

Would that work if you go through an estate agent? Surely they would expect the full rent. They've left their details with an estate agent recommended by the Uni but all the Uni flats have gone so they're watching the daily vacancies to see if anything comes up.
If they have to pay July/Aug/Sept, it's going to be about £440 each month per person :scared1:

£440!!!!!!!! blinkin' eck - that's ludicrous. I've been extremely lucky seeing as Cardiff is quite a cheap city. I pay £260 - what a massive difference?!

And re: agencies. We have always gone through a letting agency to find our student houses, and each time we have been lucky enough to just pay half rent during July and August. We have found for the majority of the times we have dealt with agencies that despite the houses being advertised by the agencies, they do in fact have private landlords and it is the landlord who decides if they will offer half rent. it's just down to the preference of the landlord as I have seen houses within the same agency where you pay full rent over the summer, and some where you pay half.

have they tried to contact any private landlords? If you rent a house this way, then you wouldn't have to pay an agency fee. but unfortunately, these are harder to come by.

Would your son ever consider returning to halls?

Just catching up......

Nicky I hope you manage to still come on the Friday, even if you arrive late at least you'll be able to spend the whole day with us Saturday. :goodvibes

I hope you manage to get things sorted Lesley so that you can still come. :wizard:
