**DIS Girly Weekend 2010** ~ IT'S OVER :(

Hope you feel better soon, Jules.

I'm wearing trousers and a top on the Saturday night, I do like wearing dresses but have only worn this top once before so I'll pretend it's a new one! :rotfl:

For those who are a bit nervous about the weekend can I say that when I went to the DIS meet at Tony Roma's last week I only knew one other DISer already (Bev) but everyone was so warm and friendly and not once did I feel awkward. I'm not at all apprehensive about coming now.

Hope that sets minds at rest. :goodvibes

Glad to hear that Elaine :)

I finally got my weekend sorted out completely. I managed to get the Friday off as well. My initial plan was to fly down, but while I was waiting for the roster to be published so that I could do the necessary shift swaps, the prices have gone up quite a bit. However, I managed to get some really good train fares and I will still be in Southampton by 3.

As for dressing, I really love wearing dresses and there are a couple of Monsoon dresses that I have not have any occasion to wear yet. They are not overly dressy, but too dressy for work.

By the way are there any people out here that are not into night clubs? I am very sensitive to loud noise to the point that my balance gets affected. I was really struggling at Reflex last year. I don't want to be a Johnny No Mates and will bring earplugs if necessary, but if there are others who would rather just go out for a few quietish drinks on at least one of the nights, I would be a happy bunny.

I'm Gutted!!!
Its just been pointed out to me by Joh that my holiday to Egypt clashes with the girlie weekend! I thought it was at the end of August for some reason :sad2: I'm so disappointed, I want to go every year and never make it :sad1::sad1:

I would be, Corinna. ::yes:: My back just won't cope with two nights of dancing anymore SO I was planning on going to Flares and reliving my youth but skipping Reflex, if that's OK with everyone... :goodvibes

Oh Jen, that's a shame!!!! Have you booked already - Southampton not Egypt, I mean???!!!

I'm going to play it by ear, Corinna. Joh says that Reflex isn't so much a nightclub as a bar with music. I feel I'm too old for nightclubs, but I'm not going to bite off my nose to spite my face if I'm having a good time and want to join the partygoers when the time comes. Equally, I won't drag myself along there if it all seems like hard work.

That sounds great.

The seventies were somewhat before my time as I was only 6 at the end of the 70s, but my uncle introduced me to 70s music and I am rather partial to it. I will have to experiment with earplugs. Ideally I still want to get to enjoy the music, but at a level that does not make me feel ill.

It is a bar with music in so far that even though it has a dance floor, this is actually a relatively small part of the place. You can just sit down if you choose. However, when it comes to the volume of the music, it can compete with any nightclub.

Corinna, I will see how I feel at the time, I think. In all likelyhood, I will probably only do one nightclub.
I may try Flares, as I've never been there, though I do like Reflex and that revolving dance floor! A quiet bar for drinks and chatting is ok with me, though.

Jen, I can't believe you can't come! It such a shame they've clashed. I hope you have a lovely time in Egypt and we'll have a drinkie in your honour!

Well I'm back from a great night in Southampton last night, and for research purposes I tried several TGI's Cosmopolitans, Classic Bellinis and even a Kir Royale, and I'd like to say that they all met with my approval ;)

This morning I dragged my hungover butt over to Reflex, it's only a five minute car journey, but too far to walk in heels

I found most of the restaurants on Lesley's list, and they are all close to Reflex. I liked the look of Coco Rio and La Cantina, so I think we really need to decide that if we don't want to eat at Frankie & Benny's and we want to eat near Reflex, then to look at the menus on the links below, and choose your Top 3 and we'll book the most popular, what do you think ?

Just put ' restaurants near Reflex Southampton' into google and it came up with these

I also managed to track down the dress I've been trying to find all week in various Monsoon shops. I'll be wearing this on the Saturday night

I just had a look at the menus and I happily eat at any of those. I love Mexican food so La Cantina would be right up my street, but the others sound yummy as well.

I love the dress. That was definitely worth tracking down. I will definitely wear a Monsoon dress as well. I just have not made up my mind which one.

I've just had a look at the menus and they all look lovely. I've never had Mexican food before, so that looks really different for me, so I'd give that a go

My top 3 are

1. La Cantina
2. Puccinis
3. Coco Rio

Lovely dress, Mandy!!!

My top 3 restos are:
#1: La Cantina.
#2: Coco Rio.
#3. Either Italian...

Note to self ~ must try a TGI's Kir Royale... :thumbsup2

Having looked at all the menus when Lesley posted them, my preference would be for Coco Rio as there is only 1 thing on the Cantina menu that I woud eat (steak) - I don't like Mexican food at all. However, if that is the number 1 choice, I'll go with the flow :)

It appears that the link for Coco Rio isn't working now though.

Lovely dress Mandy :thumbsup2
