Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

Hope all of you with the colds and ear infections are feeling better soon. My nephew caught a cold in preschool and shared it with everyone. Thankfully he missed me as I will be in Disney in 2 weeks and would prefer not to be sick. I planned the trip last year for my husband after his sister passed. I find myself thinking of her so much this week knowing that the anniversary is this weekend. My SIL was always my champion with my husband's family and made me feel so welcomed from the first day I met her so it has been hard. I want to do something in her memory sunday but I haven't thought of anything yet.

tazdev - hope the trip brings you healing and peace

cheese, send cheese because I am whining. I am sick of being sick.

I woke up this morning crying from sinus pain. I am glad dh was home from Boston. I asked him to go get me 2 tylenol. I don't think this antibiotic is strong enough etc.

On top of it I can't take the pain in my R upper mouth anymore. The other day I had to take 2 tylenol just to eat, So tomm. I am going just for a quick emergency visit. They said they will take an xray and see what is going on. My 2 ds have been to the group before and said they are ok. I am sure this will not be good news either.

Oh no! Poor Taz and LMP! I hope that you feel better soon. My DH is really sick right now and I am hoping that he doesn't get my DD sick too. Her big championship swim meet is this weekend and these are the times that college coaches will use. If she gets sick it will be terrible.

Thanks everyone. Today is the 1st anniversary and I have thought of my SIL so much today. My youngest daughter looks quite a bit like her when she was younger. I did figure out how to honor my SIL. I have been put in charge of a project at my church to landscape the grounds. There is a landscape designer but I want to add a memorial garden that anyone can contribute to, however I want to make it a Butterfly Garden. Butterflies are said to be a sign from those we have loved and lost. I thought this would be a way for us to beautify the grounds and at the same time be a place of peace and solitude.

LMP - hope you feel better soon. Sinus pain is the worst.

Robin - hope your daughter wows the college coaches. My kids swam and now I have my grandkids on a team. Great exercise and so much fun to watch.

Well now my dh is sick again. Coughing up a storm. We just can't catch a break around here. Of course he refuses to rest at home. He actually got kicked out of a meeting for coughing and was home at 5 the other day. I said who are you and what have you done with my husband, lol. He never comes home till almost 8.

Ds3 is in Clearwater, Fl. He and his friend are staying with his friends sister. She has 3 year old twins. They drove to Universal yest. He is depressed because he didnt get into the masters program. I told him try again next year.

Tomm. I am gong for the sonogram of my thyroid/neck and sat. I am getting the blood test.

The dentist said I have 2 options. A - try to save the tooth with a root canal but it might not work since the root is calicfied and even hard to see on an xray and there is an infection on top of the tooth or Option b- go to the oral surgeon, have them pull the tooth and then get an implant. My head is spinning.

GAGWTA. Have a great week end everyone.

Sorry your DS 3 wasn't accepted to the program he wanted. Having met him, it's their great loss.

Sorry you dealing with the tooth issue. Please pick an oral surgeon who is a MD. Trust me it matters. We had a bad experience initially with mom when she had the salivary gland tumor. And it was actually an oral surgeon her dentist at the the recommended. Needless to say we have changed her dentist too! Thank God we switched doctors after the biopsy but before the big surgery. There are good oral surgeons out there. Ask a lot of people.

Oh no! Poor Taz and LMP! I hope that you feel better soon. My DH is really sick right now and I am hoping that he doesn't get my DD sick too. Her big championship swim meet is this weekend and these are the times that college coaches will use. If she gets sick it will be terrible.

How did the meet go?

I went for the neck/thyroid sono yest. and I posted in the thyroid thread that it did not go as well as I expected.

It was the first time ever that they asked for more pictures. I did tell my favorite tech that I had been sick, antibiotic etc. and that I felt my R neck felt "puffy". So the radiologist made her take more pictures because the first ones showed large lymph nodes on the r side.

Today I went for the blood tests which really are a better indication if the cancer is back, the one number will be up high. So its wait and see.

I hope its just the infection I have. Ds3 is home from Florida. He is tanned for sure. Guess that is what happens when you fall asleep on the beach and dont have any suntan lotion.

Hoping that the puffiness is just from being sick, MaryAnn. When will you have results? Please keep us posted.

Well I threw in the towel and called the pcp group today. I told them the story. They said come in an hour. Of course I got one of the residents but I didnt care. I was just happy to get in there and she was really nice.

My ear infection is cleared up but my sinus infection is terrible, so now its another antibiotic and some cough pill I never had before. We shall see.

She also wants me to have a chest xray because she hears something in the r lower lung. I told her my lung doesnt work good anyway, that one.

So then I also asked her for the mammo script because I dont know what I did with the old one., another thing for the list of to do.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Maryann, sorry you are having a rough time. Hope you feel much better soon.

I got not great news at the dentist yesterday too. I try hard, but the autoimmune dryness in my mouth really does me in. Not fair. I want to MOVE! The hygienist was telling me about a friend with Sjogren's that recently moved to Oregon. Feels better already. Winters are extra hard on me here, they're even drier.

Oh my gosh! first the ear thing, and now teeth! I was into the dentist twice last wednesday, and the tooth that had a small crack on the side, well it was decaying up were it couldnt be seen, except in the xray, so he had me come right back that same day to get to it, it took a long time and was so invasive. it has settled down with cold and chewing but hot, even warm makes it hurt. So I might need a root canal on it, we will know soon I guess! had another tooth that had a half gold crown on it, and a piece of the tooth broke out from under the crown, he was able to fix that one very well and it was easy because it had already had a root canal. I am brushing and flossing and rinsing with lysterine 3 times a day right now hoping this tooth will settle down!! I do not want a root canal on it! I had to have 4 permanent teeth removed as a child, I don't have a very big mouth (hubby would disagree! LOL) and even the filling up in the very back top corner was torture. Hubby had his appointment the day before and his teeth are a mess from the medication he takes, the dentist was shocked at how bad things have gotten since he saw him a year ago, so he had 2 fillings done and has another 2 hour appointment for more. the dentist said he had to get in there and put out the fires so to speak before hubby loses his teeth!! and daughter in law landed up in the dentist today too!! she deperately needs 2 root canals and some fillings. Good grief, I can't believe how many of us share problems!!
LMP I really hope that what is going on is a persistent sinus infection causing the pain in the roots of the teeth and the swelling in the lymph glands on that side! I'm sorry you seem to be getting hit with one thing after another! it's not fair!!
Diana, what about northern California, on the coast? a little less rain and gloomy weather than most of oregon, but still so much more moderate and moister air. If I could pick a place to live that's where I would be! Eureka or Crescent City, probably Eureka because of all the so cool old victorian houses! we have been through there a few times now. And there is an amazing restaurant we love called the Sea Grill.
heres a pic of me in front of one of the main old houses, and another of another amazing house. there are streets full of them!

That is really lovely, need to make a visit to the area for sure. It's not near an affordable airport though. Funny how far NoCal is so vast and sparsely populated and the rest of the state is packed full of people. The coast anyway. DD is in Portland now, I have a feeling she might wind up in Seattle. So somewhere closer to her.

Hi, I got a question for the brave and sexy, if you lost your hair during chemo, how long before it started growing back and did it come back any different and did if it did stay that way. Im going thru chemo with few problems, I been real lucky but my last treatment is April 11th and real anxious for hair to come back, lol

Hey low key, welcome to your first post on the GAGWTA thread as a SURVIVOR!

IIR my last chemo was in April and I ditched the wig in July - it was getting too HOT! :faint: By that time my hair was super short, but there was enough of it that it looked ok.

Many women wound up with gray hair when it came in again - I was lucky, mine came in blond, like it was when I was little (and not as an adult), and it was really soft and curly! I loved it, actually! That was relatively short-lived, because eventually it straightened out again and came in brown. Bummer. But I was really happy to have it back!

Jason, no chemo for me. I can say some ladies in my support group here reported hair that came back curly like Pea-n-me as well. Curly and kind of like the baby fine hair you see on an infant born with a lot of hair.

Really glad about your luck re: few problems with the chemo treatment. Come and check back in with us here for sure on April 11 so we can celebrate, and according to Pea-n-me's schedule, again in July for an even bigger party.

Janet, your victorian house photos are picture perfect. Reminds me of a very very clean version of some of the uptown New Orleans houses, except that the yards there are much smaller, with too many big old oaks all over the place.

Sorry about all the dental problems you and your family are experiencing.

Jason - cant comment about the hair as I had a different type of radiation but wishing you all the best and yes, we want to celebrate with you in April!

Well I went to the endo yest. It was good, bad and ugly.

Good - My one cancer number was undetectable!!!

Bad - She saw the lymph node sono and feels it is due to the infection I have, but wants me to have a repeat sono in June. She said it doesnt appear to look cancerous. So another test.

The ugly - She said the lab did not do 2 of the tests she ordered. WTH??? In 7 years I have never had that happen and I always use the same lab and place. I did question the tech when she drew my blood. I am not saying it was even her. It could have been at the processing center. I know I had 3 vials taken and some white tube which I was asking her about. She said that was to spin in a centrifuge. O.k. So one of those tests was another of the cancer test numbers she needs so in 2 weeks I have to go get more blood tests.

Also she said my liver enzymes are elevated for some reason and she does not like that and that will be part of the blood tests in 2 weeks.

Always something.
