Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

Checking in as well. Still hanging in there.

Hope everyone has a great day.:flower1:

Minky, I just want to send you virtual hugs.:grouphug::hug:

Did someone hear from Minky?

I am so distracted, planning this major trip. First time to Europe. So very much to decide!

Smiley, your area is so gorgeous. It's so healthy to get out in nature like that. When I get out in nature around here, we're talking dirt and tumbleweeds.

tmm - sorry you are dealing with the seroma issues. I am sure its uncomfortable and a pain. I had a giant one in my stomach from one of my stomach surgeries. It exploded everywhere. Not fun at all. Very painful.

robinb - congrats on the great check up

smiley - your pictures are so breath taking. I love the outdoors. Its always so peaceful.

diana - where r u going in Europe? I have been to the Netherlands, Sweeden, Denmark, Norway and quickly stopped in Belgium. Of course my dh has traveled extensively but usually for business.

Well dh was really sick with some high fever thing for a week. He went to work though.
Now ds2 is really sick with a bad case of mono. He went to urgent care and they did nothing. Just said he had some kind of viral reaction, wth??? They only had tested him for flu and strep. We finally convinced him to go to the er yest. They had to give him lots of iv fluids. He saw his girlfriend for valentines day and I am sure she will get it too.
I have had a slight sore throat and sinus congestion thing for a while, annoying not that bad.
Dh is going up to Boston for a few days next week. I was enjoying him not traveling so much. Need to get my tests soon in prep for the 6 month cancer check up.

Ladies, sorry I've been MIA for a bit. Trying to get over a bug. Hit me like a truck. After two weeks and an antibiotic, I'm starting to feel better.

I need to catch up. Until I do, hugs and prayers for all!

Lots of illness going around. I subscribe to some nutrition and health blogs that some would consider kind of "out there". Anyway, a Facebook post led me to a recent study where they said that the problem hospitals have with infections may be due to the way the bathrooms are designed. Big flush, no lid, everything in one room. Bacteria flies all over when the toilet is flushed. I've been telling people to be very careful in public toilets, don't touch ANYTHING! I guess try not to breathe, too.

We are taking a bucket list trip this year. A 12 night cruise in Europe from Venice to Barcelona, on the new Viking Sea. Four nights in Florence before we sail. First time across the ocean, and we may never have the funds to go back. But this one will be epic!

Oh boy, that sounds fun! I hope to get a vacation eventually. We missed out on our 25th anniversary fun due to my diagnosis and well we are selling our house. No trips until that is done.

I saw my oncologists yesterday. I get to start taking the Tamoxifen now. I go next week for the "measuring" for radiation treatments and start treatment the following week.

I am seriously considering being in a study using different "creams" during radiation. My medical oncologist mentioned it and I met the person that is doing the study.

Hanging in there!!! GAGWTA

That sounds AWESOME! No bucket lists for me this year. We might be going the Swimming Olympic Trials in lovely Omaha this summer. My DD is going to the Olympic Trials on a training trip and I might chaperone. Otherwise, I have 5 days booked at WDW and we have APs.

Our last trip to WDW was in 2012, I'm starting to miss it! Did Halloween at DL in 2013, that was a nice change. Starting to plan a trip to WDW for Halloween 2017. There should be new stuff by then, right?

Really, really want to move in 2018/19 so that will curtail trips. I just dry up more every year here in NM. Was diagnosed with Sjogren's in 2011, then told I didn't have it in 2013, and the latest Rheumotologist says I probably do have it. She also said one of her patients moved to PNW and feels so much better. I'm all for that.

MM, I thought they waited until after radiation to start the Tamoxifen? I guess it's case by case.

RobinB, what a great reason to skip travel! Keep us posted on your DD!
Just to be clear ... she's going to view the Olympic Trials. She does't swim fast enough to qualify. But we do personally know 3 qualifiers and her coach is an Olympic Gold Medalist from 1996. They are doing a special 20 year anniversary presentation for them. They will be training in the Omaha area for the week and going to prelims and finals.

Hi all. It's been awhile since I checked in and I'm glad to read you are all doing relatively OK.

My dad is now 6 months post surgery and seems to be adjusting well. He is finally learning to care for his stoma which is a good thing as my mom and I are going to Scotland in July. My brothers will check in on him every day. My one brother lives around the corner from my parents so he has been doing a lot for them anyway. He is single so he has the time and I am so thankful that he is there. My dad has his sense of humor again. His hair came back curly from the chemo so now he thinks he is a stud! He is happier that his beard is coming back. He plays Santa every year for several charities and he passed this past year. He looks forward to it but the beard was so thin and he was still so tired all of the time. It is amazing what the difference of a month makes.

We are coming on the 1 year anniversary of my SIL losing her battle in 10 days and it is really hard. I am so happy my dad will be OK but then I feel like I should hide my feelings since my husband lost his sister and he is still hurting. My youngest brother is in cancer research and I hope he finds the break through to rid the world of this dreaded disease.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, night, week or whatever. I have learned to live in the now.

Laurie - are you being affected by this severe weather? Hope you are staying safe

robinb - that sounds like an awesome trip

tazdev - thinking of you

Peg - how are you feeling?

Linda - was thinking of you when I was watching the dog show. The cairn terrier was named Fenway in honor of Boston they said

Well I caved in and had dh take me to urgent care. They said I have a sinus and ear infection. They gave me an antibiotic I have never taken before. I hope it doesnt cause any side effects. hey said tendon tear is a rare one and I dont like that you cant have dairy products 2 hours before and 2 hours fter you take it.

Now ds2 is getting the cold going around the office on top of the mono. No one where he works ever stays home when they are sick. They just pass around every germ etc.

Dh is going to Boston tomm.

Hopefully next week I can get the testing done if I am feeling better.

LMP, I'm doing better. Thanks! Still tired, but the cough is finally better. Lots of people, in the area, are sick. I think they missed this strain in this year's flu shot.

Oh Diana!! that sounds amazing!! I hope you will be able to share some pictures with us after!!
LMP, I hope you get well soon! it must be some kind of widespread virus! all the grandchildren and our daughter had ear infections this winter and hubby and I both, had very bad ear aches and congestion. We are all getting better now, but still sniffling. the past month had been first the anniversary of our sons death on january 28 then this monday was his birthday, so we have been really struggling with depression. We couldn't afford to go south this year to escape the rain in january either, so it was a lot harder. fortunately the last while the weather has been really nice, we had coffee out on our deck in the sun this morning. it has been a very mild winter for us, I have sweet peas that wintered over, pansies that never quit blooming, even a plant called purple wandering jew that is quite tender, lived through the winter on my deck against the house! I guess if we had to be stuck at home for the winter, this was a good one. the daffodils and crocus and primroses are blooming, even my evergreen clematis. the wind still has a bite to it though! trips to the beach require a warm coat!
I also was thinking about Laurie with the storm there....hope she is all right!
Tazdev, a hug from me as well, knowing how hard those anniversaries are!

smiley - lots of  and prayers for you. It must be so beautiful where you are. All that is here is grey lately.

Peg - glad you are on the mend.

Lmp I did see that on the Westminster Kennel Club show! My dog's breeder was there with the Cairns! And the German Shepherd that won the Herding Group was gorgeous!
